Welcome to Sierra Ranches!
ROLANDO AVILA & CHRISTIAN AVILA
It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to Western Treasures, Volume 2—our second female production sale and sixth annual bull sale. We are excited to offer this set of females and bulls that are backed by some of the most prolific cow families in the Hereford breed. Holding the female and bull sales together enables us to showcase the full scope of our operation and in an effort to make the Sierra sale location more convenient for our buyer’s, we have a new sale location and schedule for this year’s sale and we are excited to unveil this new sale venue at this NEW SALE LOCATION: 1412 Albers Road, Modesto, California. The females in this herd were selected on the basics of high quality udders, easy keeping, structurally sound cattle with well-balanced EPDs. Our donor battery is from the leading cow families in the breed; they not only look good phenotypically but also have the proven genetics behind them to create consistency. Through extensive embryo transfer, we have been able utilize the top herd sires in the breed on these donors to advance our program’s genetics. By bringing Hereford bulls into our commercial program we have seen firsthand what this breed can do. Herefords have increased our weaning weights, fertility and longevity along with bringing in a great deal of docility. The baldy steers and heifers produced from these bulls have worked great. Whether it’s the steers in the feedlot or the heifers used as replacements entering the cow herd, they have truly been our best. This group of bulls is our best set to date, being sound footed, powerfully constructed and carrying a well-balanced set of genomic values to back them up. We have made a commitment to the Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) by initiating the Foundation 1 Club. Our commitment is to donate 1% of our sale’s gross to the HYFA organization. We hold a strong belief in helping our future generations and insuring their opportunities in the livestock industry. We hope that other breeders will join us in the Foundation 1 Club to support the next generation. We are very proud of this sale offering to show you the type and kind that our donors, their offspring and our bulls produce. These cattle have worked great in our program—both commercial and purebred, and will in yours as well. We look forward to seeing you on October 14 and 15 at our NEW SALE LOCATION: 1412 Albers Road, Modesto, California, and are eager to work with you!

SALE MANAGER’S COMMENTS
Dear Friends & Fellow Cattlemen, Welcome to the Western Treasures Volume 2 Sale at Sierra Ranch. I first want to take this opportunity to again thank Tim, Kara, Tyler, Kathryn and the Sierra crew of Dan, Tim, Rolando, and Christian for allowing me to be a part of their marketing team. The effort and passion that they put into this program is evident in the cattle they produce, and how they are presented, and I am honored to be involved in the merchandising of such an outstanding set of Hereford females and Hereford and Angus bulls. In an effort to make the Sierra sale location more convenient for their buyer’s, we have a new sale location and schedule for this year’s sale and I know they are excited to unveil this new sale venue at this NEW SALE LOCATION: 1412 Albers Road, Modesto, California. Sierra has again assembled an outstanding set of Hereford females in Lots 1 through 42 to complement the elite set of herd sire prospects that sell as Lots 101 through 147. Tim, Kara, and their family and crew have assembled a sound, functional group that excel in phenotype and individual performance while maintaining a strong genetic base with numerical balance and diversity. Whether you are simply adding to your herd, seeking an outstanding donor dam or looking for your next show ring champion or herd bull, you will find what you are looking for among this exceptional offering. The bred females are mated to some of the top A.I. sires in the industry, as well as leading Sierra resident herd sires such as Fast Forward and the exceptional pairs have unlimited earning potential when you consider the value of not only the cow, but also the calf at her side. For each transaction that is made, Sierra Ranch wants the customer to be satisfied. Everything they do is in an effort to build lasting relationships and they always stand behind their product. Tim and Kara Coleman and family are the founding members of The Foundation 1 Club, an organization of breeders that are graciously donating 1% of their sale gross to the Hereford Youth Foundation of America. Please join us in celebrating the formation of this club that is focusing on the future of our Hereford youth through the continued growth of HYFA at this inaugural Sierra Ranches production sale. This herd has been built from a foundation of what Tim and Kara have determined to be the breeds most influential cow families. The positive impact that the cow families in this herd have had on the Hereford industry in terms of cultivating and improving the real-world traits of udder quality, calving-ease, feed efficiency, fertility, and functional design is second to none. When you examine the pedigrees of this offering, you will find breed leading sires and top income generating donor cows are a common occurrence in the lineage of this herd. I encourage you to evaluate the needs of your program, and join us for food, fellowship and the female sale on Sunday, October 14, 2018, and then for the bull sale on October 15, 2018. Please do not hesitate to call me with any questions or if I can help you in any way. Sincerely, Matt C. Sims

dam Lots 1 and 2, and 129 thru 132, 5139R, first topped the 2010 Holden Female Sale at $40,000 to Haxton Hoffman. We selected her from Hoffman’s 2013 Fall Sale at $175,000 which was a breed tying record sale price at that time and she has since proven her worth time and again, as is evident in the progeny that represent her in this offering as Lots 1, 2, 129 thru 132. She is one of the very top cows in the breed and combines curve bending EPDs with tremendous eye appeal, udder quality, and structure. She has already produced almost $1 Million in progeny sales including the $180,000 new record selling female for the Hereford breed that sold in Hoffman’s 2014 Fall Sale and her three daughters that averaged over $14,000 in last year’s Western Treasures Volume 1. Her daughters are some of the very top females in our herd and are across the breed, and she has sons working in many top registered herds across the U.S. Her impact will be felt in the Hereford breed for many generations to come. • 5139 records impressive average progeny ratios of 5@99.2 for BW, 4@104.8 for WW, 3@102 for YW, and 45@100.6 for RE.

Dam of Lots 114—120
dam of Lots 114 thru 120, T90, came to us after a great donor career at Topp Herefords and originated from Ochsner Ranch who is noted for being a female factory, creating model matrons with fleshing ability, thickness, power and perfect udders. • T90 produced the two top selling bulls in the 2015 Sierra bull sale after producing two $30,000 high selling bulls for Topp Herefords. She has sons working in registered herds all over the country and Genex tied into a Mr. Hereford son of hers for $75,000. Her Mr. Hereford daughter topped the female portion of a past Topp Herefords sale at $22,000. She just hasn’t missed and continues to produce high value progeny and has a lot of life left in her. • Posts progeny ratios of 4@99 for BW, 4@103 for WW, and 4@102.3 for YW after recording individual ultrasound ratios of 101 for RE and 102 for IMF. • T90’s dam records 9@99.2 for BW, 5@105.6 for WW, and 4@112.8 for IMF.

• The dam of Lot 12 and Lots 122 thru 124 in this offering was our $22,000 selection from the 2015 female sale at Holden Herefords and she was rapidly ascending in our door program before her untimely death. 2220Z was a moderate framed, big topped, feminine fronted daughter of 8050U with a near perfect udder and posts progeny ratios of BW: 2@97.5, WW: 2@100, YW: 2@100.5 and IMF: 4@100.8. • The maternal third dam of lots 122 thru 124 is the great 496 Cooper cow. • A full sister to lots 122 and 123 was selected by Barber Ranch from the 2017 Western Treasures Sale.

Dominette 1169Y
Dam of Lots 125—127
• The donor dam of these flush brothers, 1169Y, is the result of the mating of two of the most recognized cattle produced at Cooper’s in recent times. She has been extremely popular among those who have seen her Hoffman Ranch, she is moderate, good looking, sound and has a beautiful udder. When we had a chance to acquire her genetics from the 2015 JNHE Sale, we jumped at it and we are very pleased with the results. • 1169Y records 4@95 for BW, 2@101.5 for YW, and 4@1114 for IMF. • The sire of lots 125 thru 127, Advance 4075B, was the high selling bull in the 2015 Holden Sale at $240,000 for 3/4 interest to Hoffman Herefords and Cottonwood Cattle. He offers a tremendous combination of phenotype, performance, pigment, eye appeal, cow family and great carcass EPD’s. One of the most exciting young Line One sires to sell in several years and semen is limited so buy sons when you can.

Dam of Lots 129—132
• The dam Lots 129 thru 132, 5139R, first topped the 2010 Holden Female Sale at $40,000 to Haxton Hoffman. We selected her from Hoffman’s 2013 Fall Sale at $175,000 which was a breed tying record sales price at that time and she has since proven her worth time and again, as is evident in the sons that represent her in this offering as lots 1, 129 thru 132.

“
The Hereford Advantage program helps us to focus on providing the best quality genetics that we can possibly provide to our customers - the cattle feeder. We try to select bulls who will sire calves that will excel in the feed yard.
“
PROGRAM BENEFITS:
-NANCY BOWLING
BOWLING RANCH, NEWKIRK, OKLA.
Certified Hereford Beef Index(CHB$) is a terminal sire index that is built on a production system where Hereford bulls are used on Angus-based cows with a focus on feedlot performance and end-product merit. To qualify for the Hereford Advantage program, cattle must be sired by registered Hereford bulls with transferred ownership, and the Hereford bull battery must have a CHB$ value ranking in the top 50%.
Take advantage of hybrid vigor by capitalizing on Hereford genetics.
The Maternal Advantage program generates females with added longevity, more docility, increased fertility and more profit per year. Can be utilized by producers using Hereford bulls on British-based cows or Brahman-based cows in their breeding program. Producers utilizing the program will have access to a sire EPD summary, added market exposure, replacement selection tools, genetic improvement tools and access to AHA resources, marketing and staff.
Qualifications •
Producers must verify that eligible females are sired by registered Hereford bulls with transferred ownership.
•
Participating bull batteries must rank in the top 50% of the breed for Baldy Maternal Index (BMI$) if used on British-based cows or the top 50% of the breed for Brahman Influence Index (BII$) if used on Brahmanbased cows.
