TEXAS JUNIOR LIMOUSIN ASSOCIATION 2016-17 TJLA OFFICERS RANDA TAYLOR..........................................................PRESIDENT GRAYSON HARTH..............................................VICE PRESIDENT MCKINLEY BEGERT..............................SECRETARY/ TREASURER JACEE HALLIDAY...........................................PUBLIC RELATIONS REAGAN TAYLOR......................................................EX-OFFICIO He l l o T L A / T J L A Fr i e n d s and Family! I hope you all have recovered and are back in the swing of things after a wonderful week in Lexington, Kentucky, this summer. For those who missed this year’s junior national show, it was sure one for the books. Not only did we dominate the Beef Cook-off, again, we definitely represented Texas well in the show ring, along with several of you jumping in there and competing in satellite events! Congratulations to Nikki Keeton and
Michaela Yandell for finishing up in the top 10 over-all sweepstakes. If you missed the fun week, make sure you ask Layton Schur to do his Donald Trump impression, put a watermelon in front of Cole Keeton and watch it disappear, and start practicing on those kick ball skills—Grand Island, Nebraska, will be here before you know it! I also want to take a minute to thank all of you who encouraged and supported my run for the NALJA board this year. I am very excited to serve these next years, but even more proud to be representing the great state of Texas and my Limousin family.
DIRECTOR HANNA HOOPER
On another note, McKinley Begert and I just returned from Manhattan, Kansas, where we attended the 2016 Power Conference with other junior Limousin and Gelbvieh breeders. We toured the Kansas State agricultural units and feed mill, and received hands-on practice with artificial insemination, palpating, and sonograms. We also listened to Mitch Holthus, the “voice of the KC Chiefs,” discuss the importance of finishing what you start, being accountable, being resilient and making footprints in life. This was a great leadership conference, and I hope next time it comes around more of our Texas juniors will be able to attend. My challenge to you juniors this show season…find someone in your community to invite into our Limousin family! We have great breeders out there who will be glad to find them a perfect calf, there are several big and small shows coming up in all areas of our state, and I know we will all welcome them with open arms! Are you up for the challenge? I hope to see everyone at a show down the road soon, and as always, if there is anything I can do for you, just let me know! Til Next Time,
Randa The 2016-2017 Texas Junior Limousin Association Officers Front row: Randa Taylor, president; Grayson Harth, vice president; McKinley Begert secretary-treasurer; and Jacee Halliday, public relations. Back row: Hannah Hooper board member; and Reagan Taylor, ex-officio.

NEWS & NOTES DATES SET FOR 2017 TLA SALES
A LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY
The TLA’s Cowtown Classic Limousin Sale will once again be held in the West Arena of the Richardson-Bass Building in Fort Worth Friday, January 27, 2017. The TLA will hold a spring sale this year April 22, 2017, at the Stowers Limousin sale facility in Bridgeport. Contact Ralph Hawkins or Ken Holloway for more information.
Fellow Members and Friends,
What a summer! Late August and temperatures are in the 80s with rain. Summer has also been a time of fun and fellowship for members of the Texas Limousin family at the National Junior Heifer Show and Congress in Lexington, Kentucky. Several families from Texas competed in the week-long event and this issue highlights their success. The summer show season has now come to a close and we look forward to fall. Several shows and sales are on tap, check the Limousin Happenings page for one near you. Looking forward, plans are underway for the TLA’s annual meeting, banquet and Cowtown Classic Sale January 27-28, 2017, in Fort Worth. At its summer meeting, the TLA board voted to move our banquet and meetings from the Radisson, where they have been held for several years, to the stock show grounds. A meeting room has been secured in the Richardson-Bass Building (site of the Cowtown Classic Sale) and talks are underway with the famed Reata Restaurant to cater the event. A new host-hotel is being selected that is much closer to the grounds. It is hoped these changes will make it more convenient for exhibitors and attendees. Watch for details in the November-December issue of the TLA News. Also in the future, I am pleased to announce a date has been set for a spring TLA Sale. The sale will be Saturday, April 22, 2017, at the Stowers sale facility in Bridgeport. I encourage everyone to mark their calendar for these upcoming events and make plans to attend. Sincerely, Ralph Hawkins

CORRECTION TO TEXAS JUNIOR LIMOUSIN HEIFER OF THE YEAR AWARD
