HISTORY BLS starts its activity in Milan in 1970 by setting up its first production laboratories and offices. Initially production was concentrated on disposable cup shaped masks. Year after year, the company focused the quality of its products, shaped the range and increased the production potential introducing highly automated processes constantly followed by a team of experts. BLS internally develops the projects of the machinery of its production lines. BLS takes over Tecnopro in 2003, an Italian manufacturer of full face masks and half masks with twenty years of experience in the industry. This activity leads BLS to new technical expertise relating to plastic injection moulding. Today BLS maintains a constant relationship with the main Italian suppliers of polymers and the top moulding experts in Italy in order to make more innovative and high performing products. In 2009, BLS takes over a manufacturing facility in Spain dedicated to the production of filters.

2012 marks the launch of BLS Brazil in Curitiba, a new outpost to reach South American market. BLS builds new headquarters in Milan in which to set up its production lines, so to satisfy requests from its customers. New headquarters extend along a 5000 sqm surface which has been built using the most modern technologies. Equipped with solar panels for greater respect for the environment, new BLS headquarters are the result of the renovation of a historic building. This project draws BLS today’s philosophy: a historical enterprise founding its success on know-how and expertise, keeping innovation as cornerstone; this is key to BLS expansion on international markets. BLS invests its own resources to create innovative products, that are essential for an organic and sustainable growth. Today BLS is a manufacturer able to offer a complete range of negative pressure respiratory protective device. BLS is the only Italian manufacturer of respiratory protection products.

BLS has its own R&D department where new products are developed with particular attention to ergonomics thanks to a team of specialists and with the support of the University of Design in Milan. All products are approved by the ITALCERT certification and therefore meet CE requirements. The company BLS and related trademarks also comply with ISO 9001 requirements.

OWN PRODUCTION PROPRIETARY PRODUCTION FACILITIES BLS is a manufacturer with its own production facilities of disposable and reusable respiratory protective device. In particular, BLS has a production facility near Barcelona - Spain - dedicated to reusable respiratory protection products and another in Milan - Italy - dedicated to manufacturing filtering facepieces. Half masks and full face masks are assembled in both facilities. A WIDE RANGE OF PRODUCTS BLS covers the entire market demand with a wide range of negative pressure products.

OWNED KNOW-HOW BLS internally develops the projects of its own production line machinery. Since the 70s BLS has consolidated its experience in the production technology of respiratory protection products. PROTECTION FROM DUST, MIST AND FUMES DUSTS are formed when a solid material is decomposed into tiny fragments. MISTS are tiny droplets that are formed from liquid materials through condensation and atomization processes. FUMES are formed when a solid material (e.g.: a metal) is vaporized through high temperature. The vapour cools quickly and condenses into extremely fine particles. The term PARTICULATE commonly identifies the collection of these solid particles in the air (dust, fumes, mist).

There are two families of products for protection against particulates:

In reference to the protection from particulates, the legislation confers an increased protection with the increase of the filtering efficiency: FFP1, FFP2 and FFP3.

PROTECTION CLASS SELECTION GUIDE The use of an incorrect respiratory protective method can cause considerable health risks and diseases. The European Standard EN 529:2005 shows how to select the correct breathing apparatus based on the risk assessment. This standard indicates the “protection factor” which is by definition the parameter that expresses the ratio between the concentration of the contaminant in the environment and its concentration inside the breathing apparatus. An important distinction concerns the nominal protection factor (NPF) and the assigned protection factor (APF). The nominal protection factor (NPF) is a number derived from the maximum percentage of total loss (towards the inside of the breathing apparatus) allowed by European standards. The assigned protection factor (APF) is the level of respiratory protection that one can realistically expect in the workplace by 95% of the PPE users.

The TLV for the various substances are published each year by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH). These are usually expressed in weighting values (mg/m3) or volumetric values (parts per million - ppm -) and are updated over time, with the advancement of scientific research in occupational hygiene.

Furthermore, an important reference for choosing the breathing apparatus is the Threshold Limit Value or TLV, or rather the “exposure limit value”, which indicates the environmental concentrations of airborne chemicals below which most workers can remain repeatedly exposed to day after day for their working life without any negative effect to their health. FILTERING FACEPIECES AND THE NEW HARMONISED STANDARD EN 149:2001+A1:2009 The new harmonized European standard EN 149:2001+A1:2009 came into force in 2009 replacing the previous standard EN 149:2001. A1:2009 is the amendment that contains changes and additions to the European standard. EN 149:2001, was adopted by the CEN (European Committee for Standardization) and is binding for all Member States of the EU.

WHAT CHANGES 1) DISPOSABLE AND REUSABLE DEVICES Two new classifications have been established in the new standard relating to the product use: - DISPOSABLE DEVICE, which can be used continuously for a maximum of 8 hours (classification and product marking “NR”) - REUSABLE DEVICE, which can be used for multiple shifts (classification and product marking “R”).

2) PROLONGED EXPOSURE TEST Contrary to the old regulations, which only foresaw the filtering efficiency test (with sodium chloride and paraffin oil) after 3 minutes of testing, the new standard states that the filtering efficiency of the devices is tested for more than an hour (63 minutes) of use and in the case of reusable devices, a further test is made after they have been stored for 24 hours.

In fact, according to legislation the marking on the product must remain EN 149:2001, but it must include the information if the product is disposable (NR) or reusable (R). All BLS filtering facepieces have been certified according to EN 149:2001+A1:2009 and have passed the Dolomite test and are therefore exceptionally efficient and long lasting.

3) CLOGGING TEST WITH DOLOMITE DUST Classification and marking of the product “D” Today the test is updated with new standard: - optional for filtering facepieces NR - compulsory for filtering facepieces R The letter D indicates that the facepieces have passed the clogging test with dolomite dust and therefore are particularly high performing and long-lasting even in environments with high dust levels, maintaining a high degree of comfort.

The total sealing edge, used in some models, has small holes that reduce the humidity inside the PPE and thereby increase the comfort for the wearer.

The greater amount of fabric and the greater concavity of the mask offer longer duration of the PPE and lower breathing resistance.

To avoid the possible contamination of the product (as required for example by some pharmaceutical and food industries) the internal noseclip is placed between two layers of fabric so to reduce as much as possible the metal parts of the PPE.

A considerable distance between the inner surface of the filtering facepiece and the userâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s mouth avoids a feeling of oppression of the PPE and offers greater comfort to the wearer.

Foldable filtering facepieces are made of strips of filtering material which ensure a snug fit to the face of the user.

The large surface of the filtering facepiece guarantees greater coverage of the userâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s face and facilitates breathing ensuring better duration and lower breathing resistance.

GAS AND VAPOUR PROTECTION GASES are substances which at an ambient temperature and pressure are in a liquid or solid state and pass to a gaseous state through boiling or evaporation processes (examples of gas are oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide). VAPOURS are substances which at an ambient temperature and pressure become gaseous through evaporation from a liquid or a solid (examples of vapours are acetone, toluene, hexane). For protection against this type of contaminant it requires a carbon layer filter suitably treated to selectively absorb different substances.

SELECTION OF PROTECTION CLASS To select the right protection against gases and vapours the chemical nature of the pollutant must be known and if necessary referring to the tables (provided by BLS) that indicate which type of filter to use depending on the contaminant and its concentration, making sure that the level of oxygen is greater than 17%.

Regulations provide three filter capacity classes: low (class 1), medium (class 2), high (class 3). For protection against gases and vapours, the total filtering efficiency is determined by the type of mask and not by the filter used. Although the filtering efficiency of the filter is close to 100%, the duration of filter increases with increase of the capacity, since the quantity of carbon layer is larger. On the contrary, by increasing both the volume and the weight of the filter, the breathing effort increases.

PROTECTION AGAINST GASES AND VAPOURS AND PARTICULATE WITH COMBINED FILTERS In an environmental situation in the presence of both gases/vapours as well as particulates, protection with combined filters is required, protecting against both gases and vapours as well as particulates (dusts, mists, fumes). The facepiece is available in soft thermoplastic rubber (TP2000 R) or silicone rubber (TP2000 S) for great user comfort. The large face seal guarantees a perfect fit.

The adjustment of the harness is simple and safe thanks to the blocking system.

The water jet cut harness ensures perfect user adaptability and comfort.

SGE2600 The anti-particulate assisted ventilation system provides the user with filtered ambient air. The constant flow of air and zero respiratory effort, make these systems ideal for heavy duty applications, particularly asbestos removal operations. The electric ventilator SGE2600 is CE marked and certified according to EN 12942.

The filter TMP3 is very easy to replace and includes an acoustic alarm that indicates when filter is empty.

SGE2600 is compact, convenient and provides maximum freedom of movement.

The small internal battery reduces the overall weight of the system. Duration: 8 hours.

The SGE 2600 ventilation device has both a visual and acoustic low battery level alarm. The red LED will light and the audible alarm will emit a â&#x20AC;&#x153;beepâ&#x20AC;? to alert the user of any malfunction.
