There was something in the air the night I met Chance the Rapper in the Studio in Chicago. It was super cold and I was in the studio with J.Cole. I got the call from my friend Scott who works with Dreamville that I should come to the studio and get some shoots. Two hours are so past and out of no where Chance walks in with Anderson Pakk. I can say I was a bit blow away! Just having J.Cole and Chance in the same room was out of thie world of crazy.

CJ Fly is a rapper from Brooklyn, NY and he is a founding member of the hip hop collective Pro-Era which inlcudes artists such as Aaron Rose, Kirk Knight, and Dessy Hinds. His debut album Fly Trap was released on December 09, 2016. CJ has made appearances on many projects including some with fellow group member Joey Badass, but this marks his first truly solo effort besides a mixtape (Thee Way I See It) he debuted in 2013. The first half of the album is held down by tracks like “IDGAF” and “Lethal Allure” Ft. Eryn Allen Kane; the latter is a soulful song devoted to convincing a woman to stay the night. He does his best to sing and that may not be his strength, but the song works despite his less than appetizing vocals. “Dope” is a song that bumps from the very first second and is anchored by him frequently bellowing the title in unison with the melody. His beats have a trap vibe to them at times, but I would put his sound somewhere between Kid Cudi and A$AP Rocky with a touch of Blu. The cliché thing to say is that he has a unique sound, but that’s not the case. What is unique is his ability to create a universal sound that hits almost instantly. Magazine Name or url
