Zumanity

They say what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, usually referring to the naughty nights and out-of-character antics of those visiting Sin City. And so it only stands to reason that Las Vegas mainstay Cirque du Soleil has created a hedonistic paradise of a show where visitors check their inhibitions at the door to explore the provocative sensuality that defines Zumanity, The Sensual Side of Cirque du Soleil. With Zumanity, Cirque du Soleil takes a bold and unprecedented new direction, using traditional circus arts like contortion, acrobatics, aerial stunts and hand balancing to explore the full spectrum of human sexuality and intimacy. The result is a jaw-dropping, thought provoking, and lust inspiring adult-themed production led by an unconventional cast of characters that includes a gigolo, dominatrix, naughty school girl, two kooky sex therapists, and a drag queen. New York-New York Hotel and Casino is the home of a custom built, cabaretinspired theater boasting plush red velvet walls, hidden peep-holes showcasing suggestive images and love-sofa seating for lovers looking to cozy up in the face of Zumanity’s special brand of sensuality.

“O”

Audiences around the world continue to be awe-inspired and spread the word about the stunning water show at Bellagio – “O”. Blended into a seamless series of ever changing tableaus are high caliber acts featuring divers, synchronized swimmers and acrobats, which have been adapted to fit an aquatic environment. Designed to be classic and timeless, the show’s name was inspired by the concept of Bellagio, home to world class exhibitions of art and is the perfect setting for this aquatic masterpiece. As elegant and luxurious as Bellagio, the custom-built theatre is reminiscent of a 14th century European opera house. The stage consists of a deep pool with five hydraulic lifts that emerge from the water to become performance spaces. The lifts can completely cover the water turning it into a conventional stage. Divers plunge into the water from 60’ one minute and the next, characters are performing on a dry stage. With 1.5 million gallons of water, 1200 costume pieces, 85 performers and 150 technicians, “O” is a theatrical experience unlike anything ever seen on stage and is known throughout the world as the must see show on the Vegas Strip. The world of KÀ by Cirque du Soleil is a multi-sensory experience that is both astonishing and poignant. The story, yes there is a storyline to this Cirque du Soleil production, begins with a coming of age celebration for imperial twins that is disrupted by a forceful attack which leads to the separation of the twins, and so the journey begins. The technology behind the show is nothing short of mind-blowing. Stages appear and disappear. The main stage rotates and changes form -- appearing as a horizontal beach in one scene and then transforming into vertical climbing wall for the next. As you follow the twins on their adventures, you see exactly how the technology supports the highly-trained skilled artists. The KÀ stage is a unique performance space, meaning the perpendicular acrobatics taking place on stage can only be performed within the world of KÀ. Adding to the thrilling acrobatics are phenomenal displays of capoeria dance, Chinese opera, puppetry and traditional circus acts such as the Wheel of Death and a breathtaking aerial straps duet. The powerful soundtrack, performed by live musicians, literally surrounds you as each of the 1,951 seats are equipped with speakers built into the headrest. A story of triumph and the human spirit, KÀ can only be experienced at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino.

LOVE

Truly a “Rock 'n' Roll poem, The Beatles LOVE is a magical mystery tour into the heart and soul of The Beatles music through an exploration of the aesthetic, political and spiritual trends of the 1960s. LOVE brings the magic of Cirque du Soleil together with the spirit and passion of The Beatles to create an intimate and powerful entertainment experience. Capturing the essence of love that John, Paul, George and Ringo inspired during their astonishing adventure together, this joint artistic venture marks the first time that The Beatles company, Apple Corps Ltd., has agreed to a major theatrical partnership. Using the master tapes at Abbey Road Studios, Sir George Martin, The Beatles original producer, and his son Giles Martin created a unique soundscape for LOVE. The result is an unprecedented approach to the music for a stage production, resulting in two Grammy Awards presented at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards. Drawn from the poetry of the lyrics, LOVE explores the content of the songs as interpreted by innovative performances from a cast of 60 international artists. A youthful, raw energy is channeled through aerial performance, extreme sports and urban freestyle dance. LOVE is presented in a custom-built theatre at The Mirage featuring 360˚ seating and advanced high definition video projections with 100-foot digital, moving images. The panoramic surround sound system will envelop the audience who will experience The Beatles music like never before…

Mystère

In 1993, Cirque du Soleil placed an enormous bet in Las Vegas, with the opening of Mystère, its first production not staged under its trademark yellow and blue grand chapiteau. The tent was replaced by a custom-built stateof-the-art theatre inside Treasure Island Resort & Casino.

M ORE FUN

The bet paid off. Mystère captivated audiences with its display of astonishing human feats of acrobatics and athleticism. Adding to the intrigue was worldly live music, vibrant costumes and an array of interesting characters including a mischievous clown, an electrifying Red Bird and a jumbo-sized baby.

LOVE The LOVE theatre features 24 digital projectors that are used in the show. Everything is digital from source to screen, making very large high definition digital 100’ wide panoramic images

Today, 15 years and 7,000 performances later, Mystère is embraced by many locals as their favorite show and is “classic” Cirque du Soleil at its best. Featuring traditional circus acts from around the globe including Chinese poles, hand to hand balancing, trampoline, teeterboard, aerial high bar and bungee.

The Performers wear 331 multi-layered costumes during a performance of LOVE.

Just as Mystère led the way for Cirque du Soleil to thrive in Las Vegas, the success of Treasure Island Resort & Casino ushered in the new wave of mega-resorts on the Las Vegas Strip.

KÀ Every seat in the KÀ theatre has speakers built into the headrest for customized sound effects.

La Nouba

Approximately 1,300 hours went into the making of each of the human-sized crab puppets.

La Nouba transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary. A bicycle is ridden upside down in mid air, daydreams, windows and doors float through the air, characters run vertically up walls and scatter and dance about. Seeing La Nouba is like having a dream one can’t explain, but it makes perfect sense while one is dreaming it. A cleaning lady turns into a princess, structure and dreariness transform into a bright and colorful party where the cast “lives it up.” This is the very definition of La Nouba, derived from the French phrase, “faire la nouba” which means “to party, to live it up.” As found in a “traditional” circus, one will see clowns, tightrope walkers and trapeze artists. But a cast of unusual characters from a green bird (who isn’t really green), a little walker, beautiful dancers, a group of idiots (called Le Cons), teensy diabolotossing Chinese girls, and a titan, among others, threaten and exhilarate the audience with their amazing athleticism and general defiance of gravity. La Nouba “lives it up” ten times a week at the Walt Disney World Resort’s Downtown Disney location in Orlando.

FACTS

The stage is made up of 7 lifts, 2 sloats, traps, one turntable. Each lift is capable of lifting 20,000 pounds.

For the beach scene, the sand is created using 350 cubic feet of cork from Portugal. Mystère The "bungee girl" costumes have more than 2,500 handglued colored sequins and take up to 20 hours to create. • The Bungee costumes used in Mystère each have over 2,000 hand-glued sequins. Patience is a virtue! “O” Nearly a dozen performers from "O" have taken part in the Olympics; some are gold medalists. All of the 150 technicians and 85 cast members have scuba certification; 14 technicians work underwater during every performance. Nearly 30 countries have been represented in the cast and crew. Zumanity Warm and wet! The water in the Zumanity Water Bowl is set to 99° so that the contortionists’ muscles stay warm and flexible throughout the act. Since Zumanity debuted in 2003, the girls in the show have used more than 2500 pairs of nipple covers. Hubba hubba! Since 2003, the sexy couple in Zumanity’s “Midnight Bath” act have bathed in more than 2,500 quarts of milk. Milk really does do a body good!

Believe From the dry climate of the desert comes an oasis of imagination and illusion in CRISS ANGEL Believe. The 90-minute production combines the illusion of famed mystifier Criss Angel, the show’s star, with the wild imaginations of creators from Cirque du Soleil. CRISS ANGEL Believe can only be seen at Luxor Las Vegas, the iconic pyramid shaped hotel. Pyramids have always been synonymous with mystery and intrigue, making this the perfect home for Angel. Audiences are exposed to the baroque theater of Criss’s mind and a high-energy troupe of characters and dancers who mix a multitude of styles into high-energy, visual feats. Criss Angel is recognized as one of the most provocative artists in the world today. In an attempt to pay homage to the late/ great Harry Houdini, Criss chose “Believe” as the title for this unprecedented live experience. CRISS ANGEL Believe is a haunting exploration deep inside the inventive mind of mystifier Criss Angel as he hovers between the land of the living and a surreal world uniquely woven together by the distinctive imaginations of Criss Angel and Cirque du Soleil.
