EXPLORE SIGNIFICANT MOMENTS IN U.S. HISTORY AT GETTYSBURG
It may have only lasted three days, but the Battle of Gettysburg encompassed some of the most significant 72 hours in the history of the United States. Known as the turning point in the Civil War, the Battle of Gettysburg ended with a victory for Union General George Meade and the Army of the Potomac and was instrumental in shaping the future of our nation. And so it goes in this area located in central Pennsylvania, where the significance of its past is taken very seriously with a number of places in which to thoughtfully explore all the history this area has been witness to.
GETTYSBURG NATIONAL MILITARY PARK & VISITOR’S CENTER
There is a lot to see and experience at the Gettysburg National Military Park & Visitor’s Center, which includes their signature Film, Cyclorama & Museum Experience as well as battlefield tours and visits to other historic sites. Start with a viewing of the film “A New Birth for Freedom”. Then see a variety of impeccably preserved historic items before a tour of the battlefield and its legendary landmarks.
Visit The Shriver House
Built in 1860 as a new residence and business, the fully restored Shriver House offers guided tours conducted by period attire-dressed docents and is a living reminder of how the Battle of Gettysburg affected those who lived nearby.
