Miami -South Beach 3 Days October 6-8, 2009 Day 1 - Travel to Miami. Check into the your deluxe South Beach hotel for a two night stay. Enjoy a narrated walking tour of South Beach's Art Deco District and discover the story behind the style. Miami’s Art Deco District is the first 20th-century neighborhood to be recognized by the National Register of Historic Places, with 800 structures of historical significance, most built between 1923 and 1943. Fall Foliage Retreat 4 Days October 25-28, 2009 Day 1 - Travel to Dahlonega, GA. Check into the The Forrest Hills Resort for a three night stay. Dinner is included in the Resorts "Appalachian Cuisine" restaurant. Day 2 - Begin the day with a hayride at Burt's Farm through the popcorn and pumpkin fields, across a mountain stream, up a winding mountain to a panoramic hilltop view of Burts Farm and nearby Amicalola Falls. Next is a stop at Amicalola Falls where you can walk across the bridge and be up close to the tallest waterfall east of the Mississippi. Naples “Eco Trip” 4 Days November 2-5, 2009 Day 1 - We will begin our journey with a stop at the Echo Global Farm. The tour will educate us about agricultural issues in developing countries, while highlighting unique solutions to growing food under harsh conditions. The Global Farm is divided into six main areas. Each area is managed by one of ECHO's agricultural interns who spends 12 months cultivating, harvesting, and researching numerous crops, fruit trees, and nutritious food plants. Each plot is also used to produce seeds which are ultimately packaged and sent overseas in order to be evaluated as a potential new food crop. A boxed lunch will be provided today. Travel to Naples and check into the Bayfront Inn for a three night stay. This Caribbean style, boutique hotel offers guests a chance to relax in an intimate environment and to explore the tropical beauty of the Gulf of Mexico. The Bayfront Inn offers guests easy access to downtown Naples shopping, dining, and nightlife and several white-sand beaches are within a mile. The evening is free to explore the downtown area. Day 2 - The morning will be at your leisure. The afternoon includes an “eco” program at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida. Take a two hour interpretive tour of the Nature Discovery Center and Wildlife Rehabilitation Center led by a trained naturalist, a narrated electric boat cruise up the Gordon River where you may spot some native wildlife and even a manatee or two. A Boxed Lunch is provided today. Return to Naples for a free evening to enjoy the wonderful Naples nightlife. Day 3 - Today will feature an Eco-tour of the Everglades, led by an audubon-trained guide, who will provide an education on the distinct eco-systems and wildlife that thrive in the area. Learn everything from the history of the Seminole trading business to the strong conservation efforts to save endangered species. Enjoy a narrated pontoon boat tour of Everglades National Park, exploring the Ten Thousand Islands region. Receive an overall description of this saltwater ecosystem and an explanation on how the manatees and dolphins co-exist in this portion of the Everglades. Next, is a stop at the Turner River Road, offering superior birding and wildlife viewing. Lunch today is at the Seafood Depot, offering such foods as gator bite and conch fritters. Next, is a sunset cruise. On this narrated cruise, learn about the natural beauty, wildlife and history of Naples. Dolphins love to follow the boat and mantaees often make a playful appearance. Bald Eagles and bird life is abundant. In addition to the narrated cruise, will be a special lecture on the birds and wildlife in the area. Return to Naples for another free evening. Day 4 - A morning tour of the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. A 2.25 mile boardwalk meanders through pine flatwoods, open prairies, and finally into the largest forest of ancient bald cypress in North America. These impressive trees, relatives of the redwood, tower 130 feet into the sky and have a girth of 25 feet. Their massive branches are draped with mosses, lichens, air-plants, orchids and ferns. The forest is also home to hundreds of alligators, otters, Florida black bears, white-tailed deer and red-bellied turtles. Afternoon departure for home.
