a traditional bridal shower The bridal shower is a celebrated tradition whose beneficiary is you! Shower themes can range from traditional housewares and gourmet kitchen parties to personal showers that shout sex, fun and friendship, with laughs and lingerie. It may be helpful to visit a lingerie store beforehand to try on several items and determine the most comfortable and flattering styles and sizes. The guest list for the shower is up to the hostess. Invite friends you know well enough to also invite to your wedding. Whatever happens at your bridal shower, keep your sense of humor and enjoy the attention and thought that went into planning it.

gourmeT recepTions at your favorite restaurant

Honey, where would you like to eat tonight? I’m in the mood for something special. This is a question that you and your fiancé may ask each other often. Why not ask that same question when selecting a reception site? You want your wedding to be a special experience for you as well as your guests, spending endless hours selecting the perfect dress, the perfect flowers, and the perfect venue. Treat your guests to a special meal.

When planning your wedding you will discover endless possibilities for reception sites, hotels, country clubs, museums, backyard tents and more. Among those possibilities you should consider your local favorite restaurants, the restaurant where you went to celebrate your last promotion, your last birthday, and where you took your parents when they came to visit. Your favorite restaurants may offer all the style and amenities you require, and most importantly, have the expertise to serve you and your guests an exceptional meal. With your favorite restaurant, depending on the size of your 12

PREMIER BRIDE 2014

reception, you may reserve a private room or you may be able to reserve the entire space. You, with the chef, may craft a customized menu and wine selections of exceptional quality. The restaurant’s event coordinator will assist you with your reception planning, and because restaurants host many types of events, may be able to offer additional suggestions and assistance in securing other needed services from musicians, florists, transportation providers and audio/visual specialists. When exploring restaurant reception options: 1) first contact the restaurant’s event coordinator to discuss date availability, room capacity, additional services provided and to receive copies of special event menus; 2) schedule an appointment to inspect the proposed reception space and to discuss menu options and customization; 3) schedule a tasting of your selected items (most restaurants will charge a small tasting fee); and 4) if all is to your liking be prepared to place a deposit securing the date as restaurants book up quickly with their regular clientele or other events.

recePtion Site: ask the right questions • May I see photographs of other receptions held here? • Where will we have access? Are there restrictions? • Is there ample parking for guests? • Do you provide a sound system, AV or PA system? • Are there any restrictions on decor, photography, videography, smoking or bar service? • Will you provide valet, coat check, restroom, bar and door attendants? • Is there an onsite caterer? Are we required to use them? • Are there adequate restrooms that are handicap accessible? • Are there adequate electrical outlets for the entertainer? • Could other events be scheduled the same day? • Is there a certain time when we must leave? • How far in advance must I book your services? • What is your cancellation policy? • Is a deposit required? If so, when and how much?

TIPS FROM THE PROS

Featuring - Intrigue Design & Decor

Planning a wedding is no easy task, having to worry about how every detail will play off of each other is the hardest part. When meeting with a florist always have these four tips in mind; color scheme, preference of flowers, centerpieces, and personal touch. First, identify your color scheme; focus on two to three focal colors. Once those are identified then you are able to relax and view all the different options of flowers. Before sitting down with a florist be sure you know which flowers you like and which you don’t. This way the designing process will run smoothly. Keep in mind what types of centerpieces you would like; centerpieces are a crucial part in making your ceremony and reception areas flow effortlessly. A mixture of high and lows are often used for venues that offer elevated ceiling or have a ballroom style. Low looks and groupings are often associated with quaint and bed and breakfast type of venues. Adding a personal touch to your flowers is an easy way of connecting all the pieces. While flowers already provide the delicate reminder of the theme, having your bouquet wrapped with a sentimental wrapping brings new meaning to the flowers. Have fun with the planning process, don’t stress the little things. By preparing what you know you want in advance, everything else will fall into place.

Their Love Story

Jeanne and Jared, a true long distance love story that took them by surprise. Jeanne came to Baltimore for a weekend visit with friends and while out to dinner she met Jared. After three years of traveling from N.J. to come see Jared, Jeanne finally moved to Baltimore. Jared tricked Jeanne into thinking they needed to go back to their old apartment complex and before they could get there he stopped on the promenade at Henderson’s Wharf and proposed. After saying yes, Jared swept Jeanne away to the Four Seasons where they spent the next day celebrating with family and friends. Bride’s tip: Know what’s important to you and your future husband and stick by it. Everyone may have a suggestion or opinion but only the two of you know who you are as a couple.

A bride bY AnY other nAme updating your identity

Today, many modern brides are choosing to retain their maiden name. Some choose the addition of the groom’s last name and a hyphen, but this can be unwieldy. The movement back toward tradition has more brides than ever taking on their husband’s names. Legal wrangles can be minimized by quickly tending to the paperwork.

Is this included in the cost? • When will the items be delivered and picked up? • Will you move decorations from the ceremony to the reception site if needed? • If tents are needed, do you recommend one large tent, or multiple smaller tents at my reception location? • What is your policy on damaged or missing items? • Who will be my contact on the day of the wedding? • How far in advance must I book your services? • What is your cancellation policy? • Is a deposit required? If so, when and how much?

5 Reasons to Hire a Wedding Planner 1.Experience - It’s not every day that you get married, but it is every day that we have a hand in planning a wedding. We continue to learn something new with each wedding that we are a part of and because of this we have unlimited knowledge about planning weddings and we can guarantee that no detail will be overlooked. 2.Established relationships with community, specifically vendors - Because of our accumulated years of experience in the industry, we have established relationships with the breadth of vendors that you will be choosing from. Once we get a feel of your taste, we are able to schedule consultations and put you on the right path to selecting trustworthy vendors that will provide the best quality services for you on your wedding day. 3.Ability to Organize and Prioritize Your Ideas - As a bride, you have a million ideas about what your day should include but you may not know where to start. As an experienced wedding planner, we listen to your ideas with an open mind and then we take those ideas, focus on them and turn them into reality. 4.Maximizes Your Budget - It’s overwhelming to think of the amount that your vendors will cost you for your wedding day and initially, it may be hard to justify an additional cost of hiring a wedding planner; however, we justify the cost of our services by helping you save money in the long run. Because of our experience and our relationships with the vendors, we are able to decipher what percentage of your budget should go where, negotiate to cut costs, and we keep you on track with making payments. 5.Peace of Mind - The final and possibly the most important reason to hire a wedding planner – remaining sane. We are by your side (and leading you when necessary) from the beginning stages of your wedding planning process to cleaning up after your reception ends. You will still have plenty of decisions to make along the way, but in this fast-paced world, you are likely consumed by your job and family to devote the time that wedding planning requires. That is where we come in. It is our job to guide you and alleviate your stress so that you can fully enjoy one of the most beautiful times of your life.

going green planning an eco-friendly wedding

Can you have a joy-filled wedding celebration and show your love for the planet, at the same time? YES, and it’s not as hard as you think! Read on for some great ways to incorporate eco-friendly touches into your special day.

the locale Choosing a location that’s close to where most of your guests live is an obvious, simple but effective way to limit unnecessary transportation, as is having the ceremony and reception in the same place. Choose a location already dedicated to sustainability, such as parks, protected areas or museums. the fooD Serve local, organic, seasonal cuisine, and ask your caterer about locally raised, organic meats and wild caught fish versus farmed. Before the wedding, research places to donate any leftover food, such as homeless shelters or soup kitchens. the PaPer Save trees by going high-tech: use a website to list directions, maps, accommodations and other details, and use email whenever possible. For the paper you do use, stick with 100%

recycled and renewable cotton paper, and vegetable or soy inks, which use less energy to produce than petroleumbased inks. the attire Just say “NO!” to attire made in sweatshops and petroleum-based fabrics. Seek out wedding attire made with natural fabrics such as 100% silk or organically grown cotton, and hemp linen – which has come a long way since the gunny sack look. Or, recycle! Use your Mom’s wedding dress, or find a vintage dress in specialty stores or on eBay. the gifts anD floWers Visit idofoundation.org for information on including charitable donations on your gift registry to donate a percentage of gift registry sales and make a charitable donation in lieu of wedding favors. Find a floral designer that uses local, organically grown, seasonal flowers, and repurpose the ceremony flowers for the reception to make fewer flowers go farther. Donate leftover floral arrangements to places such as nursing homes, hospice centers or hospitals, so others can enjoy nature’s beauty! the honeYMoon Certainly, staying close to home avoids those gas-guzzling airplanes, but if travel is in your future consider environmentally-friendly properties (greenhotels.com). Another idea: consider ecotourism – socially responsible travel that focuses on conserving the environment and improving the well being of local people (ecotourism.org).

fAvor Your guests remembering your day

Wedding favors are a wonderful way to thank your guests for being an important part of your special day. Favors range from imprinted matchbooks, coasters or small bottles of wine or liqueur. These favors are often decorated with personalized ribbons, lace flowers with biodegradable confetti or birdseed to shower on the happy couple. One of the nicest ways to thank your guests is with chocolate wedding favors. Consider bite-size morsels bearing your initials and wrapped in color foil or even edible sweetheart boxes filled with chocolates. Tie colorful balloons to white chocolate baskets brimming with foilwrapped candies as tasty centerpieces for your guests.

the mAgiC of CAndlelight dramatic and romantic

A dramatic addition to a late afternoon or evening wedding is created with the romantic glow of candles. Candles can be lit as guests arrive, just before the mother of the bride is seated, or by honored guests and ushers during the ceremony. Bridesmaids can also carry candles, lit or unlit, along with their bouquets. Some couples enhance their vows by lighting candles while they are at the altar, and by passing the flame between themselves, their families and the clergy. Check for regulations prohibiting candles at the wedding location of your choice. Appropriate candles are long-burning as well as dripless, but the choice of color is yours.

Their Love Story

Jillian and Dennis met while tailgating at a Philadelphia Phillies game. Then on one cold December night while walking around looking at the holiday lights, Dennis announced that this was the place and proposed. While laughing Jillian simply said “Of course I will”. Almost a year later they said their vows as the sun was setting over the Wye River. Bride's tip: Wait a few months before going on your honeymoon, it gives you something else to look forward to as husband and wife.

TIPS FROM THE PROS

Featuring - Rouge Catering

In the catering industry there is no standard for quality of the delivered product. Unlike most industries where one needs to obtain a diploma/certificate or experience to guarantee that their product or service is up to a minimum standard, in catering one is only required to successfully complete a six hour course on food safety! As a result, a $75 meal from two caterers can be drastically different! Because of this, finding a caterer to whom you can entrust your event can be difficult.

Given that the caterer has a great deal of control on the outcome of the event, we’ve included some tips to help in the selection process. A caterer deserves your trust if… 1. The catering outfit is large enough to have the resources and equipment available to deliver the job under any circumstances. 2. The caterer has recent and reputable references.. 3. Their food is fresh! Demand on site food preparation and cooking, especially for proteins. 4. The catering facility passes an inspection, by you, unannounced. This will give you a snap shot of their work and their ability to manage your job. 5. Their transport equipment is up to code. Be wary if the caterer rents equipment; this equipment is not as reliable as owned equipment. If a rental oven is not functioning properly, your tenderloin may end up a steak tartar. 6. Sanitation is at their forefront. 7. They offer free menu tastings 8. They are conscious of allergy and food sensitivities. Our industry is still very primitive on this issue. BRADLEY

IMA

GE SP

9. You receive one all-inclusive per person price for the event. The contract should clearly spell out what is included (and everything on the table should be) and what is not included, but necessary (rentals/flowers/cake/servers.)

HO TO

G

10. They have lucrative contracts. Be wary of contracts that are too long and have many disclaimers. Remember that most caterers start with very small contracts and as they experience problems they add clauses. Never sign off on the fact that the caterer is not responsible for damage at the event site or for honesty issues. The caterer doesn’t necessarily need to be responsible for honesty issues but shouldn’t outright remove themselves from the responsibility. 11. They work within YOUR budget. The caterer should give you their best menu for your price. It’s much easier for you to compare than to get involved in price analysis by item. Remember, if a price seems too good to be true, it probably is.

TIPS FROM THE PROS

Featuring - The Winery at Elk Manor

The outdoor wedding is one of the most beautiful, glamorous and popular wedding choices. But other than hoping for the best weather Mother Nature can provide, there are a few clever ways to make the most of an outdoor venue. Always have a Plan B in case Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate. That plan should go beyond having all of one’s immediate (and often extended) family pray fervently for fair weather and blue skies. Elegant tenting is the first choice for many, while others may have a back up chapel or smaller (and shorter) standing-room only ceremony venue with a fair or foul weather reception tent lined up. Consider the colors at the venue not only in the season but in the month you intend to marry. A red flower bedecked walkway might not be your optimum look if you are dreaming of salmon and peach dresses and bouquets. Utilize what nature has offered you – if a tree is to be your backdrop to frame you as an “altar area” for your ceremony, stand back and look at the tree itself. Consider inexpensive but elegant options to make sure you are the focal point and the tree becomes your frame. Considering hanging lanterns, flower pom poms, hanging baskets of flowers at the base of the tree, and other options. An inexpensive but elegant alternative is a chandelier from the branches if your venue can provide electricity to the ceremony location and tree, or random width ribbons in your wedding colors tied to the branches and wafting in the breeze. Consider your bridal party, as well. Wooden cut outs in your wedding colors give your bridal party a target to walk toward and a place to stand during the ceremony where heels don’t sink, persons don’t fidget and it adds a bit of whimsy. Lastly, ensure that your outdoor venue’s proprietors have the area mowed several days prior to your wedding to ensure no grass stains bedeck your gown. Also, making sure they provide some type of ground treatment to protect against gnats, mosquitoes and other pests is a sound practice to ensure the comfort of your guests and that your wedding not insects are foremost in people’s minds.

DRINK UP!

give wedding day spirits a special touch “Cheers! Salud! Prost!” We all have a preferred way of drinking the health of family and friends — and what better time to toast life and love than at a wedding? Let’s look at beverage ideas — large and small, adult- and kid-friendly — to bolster a day brimming with drinkinfused merriment.

At the reception, lead with refreshments. During cocktail hour, greet guests with personalized drink glasses doubling as place cards. Try attaching a miniature nametag to paper straws or scrawl names on chalkboard-style stickers and adhere them to rustic mason jars. Another way to individualize the drinking experience: Tiny bottles of champagne waiting at each table. Wedding favors for each guest might also be drinkable. If you’re a coffee-loving couple, gift a small bag of coffee grounds labeled “the perfect blend” or “love is brewing.” To give potables even more personality, ask the bartender to create a signature drink for the bride and groom. Be sure to call the drink something clever, like “Marry Me Martini,” “Something Blue Punch,” or a play on the couple’s last name. For a bride and groom who don’t agree on

beverages, go for His and Her drinks — perhaps a pink sangria (“Blushing Bride”) and a blue margarita (“Blue-eyed Groom”). If you’re connoisseurs of a particular type of alcohol, create an entire focal table dedicated to your spirits of choice. Add a fun touch to the table with handmade signs: “Whiskey for the boys!” or “Eat, drink, and be married!” And if you want things to get really personal (and your venue allows bringing in alcohol), be your own bartender. Pre-mix drinks in mason jars and keep them on ice. Or, if brewing is your thing, brew your own beer — it doesn’t get much more unique than that! Beyond booze, incorporate nonalcoholic refreshments so that there’s a little something for everyone. Kegs of root beer are fun for the kids. Large jugs of lemonade are not only thirstquenching at a summertime wedding, they also make for a very pretty picture. When it’s time for dessert — or a latenight second wind — consider a coffee bar complete with flavor shots and donut pops as stirring straws. In the winter months, a hot cacao bar with all the marshmallow trimmings and peppermint stick trappings leaves a warm, lasting impression. Want even more unique-factor? Try soaking fruit in spirits! Popular combinations include champagnesoaked berries and tequila-soaked watermelon wedges. Aside from fruit, any gummy candy can also soak up spirits for a yummy treat your guests are sure to be buzzing about long after the boozygummy-bear buzz has worn off.

TIPS FROM THE PROS

Featuring - Scott Bey Photography

Picture This … A beautiful mansion surrounded by massive gardens and greenery that sits close to the edge of a cliff overlooking water. The bride has envisioned an outdoor wedding at high noon dressed in a spectacular white gown embellished with crystals. Her handsome groom stands waiting at the altar while their guests look on. Myth: This would create the perfect day and would allow your photographer the best opportunity to capture your special moments. Fact: When having an outside wedding there are many factors to consider as far as photography is concerned. High noon is the brightest time of the day and often the hottest. With the sun shining high in the sky the light is extremely strong and reflecting into the camera lens. In the world of photography, the best time of day to take your wedding photos is the 60 minutes before sunset. This is what is referred to as the “golden hour”. When the sun is lower in the sky, the light is less intense creating a warmer tone. As the sun begins to set and lowers in the sky the light becomes softer, warmer and more flattering. As the sun sets and we reach dusk there is a point where the shadows disappear. As the temperature begins to drop even by only a few degrees the cooler air feels much more comfortable creating a much more relaxed atmosphere for all. It is easy to tell when photos have been taken later in the day when the light is warmer, softer and more flattering. The romance that it exudes is ideal for weddings.

Ceremony Selecting a

ceremony Site: ask the right questions • Is your facility open to non-members? • Do you have any restrictions on times or days of the week? • Do you have any restrictions or limitations on lighting, cameras, audio or video equipment? • Do you have a dress code? • Are outside musicians permitted to perform? • Will any decorations be available through you? • Are there dressing rooms? • When could we have a rehearsal? • Is ample parking available? • Are there adequate restrooms? Are they easily accessible for elderly and handicapped guests? • How far in advance must I book your services? • What is your cancellation policy? • Is a deposit required? If so, when and how much?

Their Love Story

Gina and Chris both enjoyed playing social sports in Baltimore. It was during the football season that they met and hit it off instantly. Many of their dates were spent watching a game of baseball or football but when it came time to propose Chris switched things up from sports to romance. They took a trip to Cadillac Mountain inside of Acadia National Park in Maine. This is where the sunrise can be seen first in the U.S. and as it began to rise Chris asked Gina to marry him. After saying yes, they sat and watched as the sun come up. Bride’s tip: choose your vendors based on your own research. Just because a friend recommends them doesn’t mean they are the best choice for you. PREMIER BRIDE 2014

Time To Relax: Spa Time wind down, clear your head, and get ready

Spa night can be held in a spa, or at home with your close friends. If you choose to have your spa night in the spa itself, you will receive professional massages, facials, and skin exfoliation. If you choose to have a spa night at home, have all your girlfriends bring their favorite foods, and alcohol (if they choose), and prepare for a night of manis and pedis, as you walk around your house with a mud mask on your face! Go and have your nails and toes done, just for fun! When someone is doing it for you, you’ll relax, instead of worrying if it will come out looking okay. Spa night can be fun, and very relaxing, so take part in this opportunity to wind down before the big day, you will surely need it!

TIPS FROM THE PROS

Featuring - Catering By Uptown

When planning your wedding one of the most crucial decisions that needs to be made early and given careful consideration is writing out your guest list. Sounds easy until you actually have to do it. As a catering company one of the first things we ask our couples is “Have you written out your guest list and has everyone seen it?” This helps to determine your budget and venue size. Budget – sometimes the simplest solution for making sure your dream wedding fits within your budget is taking your guest list from 150 people down to 120 people. This can make a big difference in saving money. Parents as Host - When we ask “Has everyone seen the guest list?” what we’re asking is have your parents and family weighed in, especially if they’re helping cover some or all of the costs. Including them in the process won’t just make them feel better, but it can play a role in defining the budget. Balancing Quantity & Quality - Everyone wants to be invited but remember the bigger the guest list the less quality time with each guest. This can be important to keep in mind when setting your list. A/B Lists - The “A” list is your most crucial list of invitees. The “B” list is your reserve invitees that as your regrets come in their invitations get sent out. This is a great solution for prioritizing and being as inclusive as possible without going over budget.

TIPS FROM THE PROS

Featuring - Eastern Shore Tents & Events When planning your outdoor wedding under a tent it is important to factor in everything you will want to fit under the tent. For example, are you having a band or a dj? Will it be a plated or stationed meal? Do you want a seating area under the tent? Are you going to have a Photo booth? These may require more room for all to be comfortable and enjoy the day. Share this important information with your rental company as they want to guide you towards the perfect setting for you and your guests. All of that will make a difference in the size of the tent, there is nothing worse than renting a tent and it not being big enough and your guests feel like they are sitting on each other’s laps. Ask your rental company questions. They want to guide you towards the wedding of your dreams under the perfect tent.

Their Love Story

Colleen and Michael, a Navy couple whose first date was with friends over breakfast. Colleen was dressed in her best camouflage and Michael answered every one of her 50 questions, after all she wanted to know who the man behind the uniform was. Michael only had one question, “Do you play golf?”. Colleen smiled and said yes as she grabbed clubs from her car. Michael flew to San Diego, cooked dinner and took Colleen for a romantic walk on the beach where he had one more question, “Will you marry me?” to which Colleen smiled and said yes!! Bride’s tip: enjoy your day and don’t worry about something going wrong. PREMIER BRIDE 2014

A chamber ensemble adds classic style and elegance to any wedding ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. An ensemble with a flute, cello, violin or harp will set an exquisite mood in a church or temple, at home, in a hotel or banquet hall. For the ceremony, the ensemble may play the traditional wedding march or a song that has special meaning to you. Classical trios and quartets continue the mood with popular selections during cocktails. Your guests will enjoy a wonderful meal even more with a background of romantic and classical favorites. Consider these pieces during your ceremony or reception as they make a lovely accompaniment to any sophisticated celebration: • Piano Concerto in C, 2nd Movement (Schubert) • Violin Concerto #8 (Vivaldi) • Air from Water Music (Handel) • Rondo for Flute and Orchestra (Mozart) • Hornpipe in D from Water Music (Handel) Chamber music is particularly appropriate for outdoor and home weddings, since a chamber group can provide sound, even where there is no organ, piano or electricity. A well-prepared ensemble should offer selections ranging from Bach and Vivaldi to waltzes, contemporary love songs and traditional or ethnic music. Call a prospective ensemble for a demo CD and repertoire list. Ask how flexible they are about tailoring their presentation to your taste and budget. Ask about their attire, some groups will even coordinate their attire to your color scheme, which makes for an elegant and tasteful touch.

THE PRE HONEYMOON GETAWAY when you need a break With the stress of planning your wedding, you might feel as if you need a break, which is exactly why couples are taking a pre-honeymoon! What is a pre-honeymoon? It can be a weekend getaway or just an overnight stay at a bed and breakfast a couple hours away. Why do I need a pre-honeymoon? You might feel stressed due to wedding planning, and this can ease that stress by getting away for a couple days to decompress and come back with a fresh start. It also allows you to rekindle as a couple, rather than constantly planning your wedding. Where should we go? You could go somewhere abroad, if money permits, or just somewhere a couple hours away, as long as you are together, having a great stress free weekend! You could even just check into a nice hotel and get pampered for the night, this will keep your stress level down as you are relaxing! You could also go somewhere that’s sentimental to you as a couple, including where he proposed, or where you went on your first date. The purpose of the pre-honeymoon is to unwind and connect as a couple, and taking a prehoneymoon is just the ticket! Travel deals can pop up at anytime, and there are many websites that you can use to find the best deal for your travel plans. You can also utilize the coupon applications for getaways with your special someone, and this is sometimes the cheapest way to travel!

FRIDAYsavesOR SUNDAY you money If cost is a factor in your wedding budget, consider planning your wedding for a Friday or Sunday. Choosing a day not in high demand can be less expensive and more relaxing, and there are other benefits as well:

• Getting married on alternative days suits the bride who prefers less pressured planning.

• You’ll find everyone you must engage for a wedding service more open to negotiation, sometimes reconsidering price or adding extras.

• Getting treasured guests into town may be easier if extra or early days are options.

• Vendors will probably cheer your off-day business by doing an extra-attentive job. • Wedding services can book Saturdays far in advance, but Fridays and Sundays can require less notice. Choosing a Friday or Sunday also allows you to avoid making several calls to numerous vendors, only to hear, “Sorry, we’re booked on that date.”

• It’s more likely that a hotly requested band, deejay, photographer, videographer or caterer will be on hand for the wedding of your dreams.

• On a Friday, you’ll probably have your wedding in the evening, which means that the ceremony is followed immediately by dinner. This means that you will avoid the extra cost and hassle of a one-to-two-hour interim reception or cocktail party. Having the ceremony and reception back to back may ensure more people at the church ceremony. • The rehearsal dinner could be easier and less costly for a restaurant if it was scheduled on a Thursday as opposed to a Friday night.

here coMes the grooM complementing the bride

The attire of the groom, best man and ushers should complement the bride’s dress. The men need not dress identically. The groom’s selection will depend upon his coloring and build, the bride and her attendant’s dress color and style, the season, time of day and personal taste. Darker colors have a slimming effect. Ties, cummerbunds or suspenders that are the same color as the bridesmaid’s dresses will bring the entire wedding party together. If the men in the wedding party are identically dressed, you may wish to set the groom apart. A slightly different boutonniere or neckwear accomplishes this effectively. Consult a menswear professional for ideas and to discuss what is available and most appropriate. Tuxedos should be reserved three months in advance and all measurements taken at least three weeks prior to the wedding. Out of town groomsmen can have their measurements taken at a men’s formal wear store near them and forwarded to the formal wear store through whom you have reserved your tuxedos. Rented formal wear usually includes a jacket, vest or cummerbund, pants, suspenders, shirt, cufflinks, studs and a tie. Usually, shoes are rented from the same store to maintain consistency. Find out when the tuxedos may be picked up and when they must be returned. Have all the men try them on a few days beforehand for last minute adjustments. The groom also has the option of purchasing his tuxedo or having it tailor-made. Purchasing a tux gives the groom a suit of permanent pride for other formal occasions.

TIPS FROM THE PROS

Featuring - A Unique Affair

Know your Wedding Date: Picking your Wedding Date is the start to all Planning. Check to see if the date you want falls on the same day as a Holiday, Special Occasion or a Local Event. Traffic and Hotel accommodations may be affected because of a Charity Walk, Convention or Big Sporting Event. It is a good idea to also check to see if there is a Special meaning to a certain date. Budget & Credit: Know where your Money is coming from and take advantage of Credit Card Reward Programs. Placing all your wedding related purchases on one or two cards for record keeping. This could accumulate thousands of points to be used in the future or for your Honeymoon. Guest List: A wedding is to have your friends and family there to support and share in your love. How many people could that be? That could determine the venue. Keep in mind if your guests will be traveling to your Wedding. Many venues and caterers require a final guest count by a specific date. Vendors: Good Communication with your Vendors is Key to a successful Wedding. Vendors appreciate Tips. Don’t forget to also plan to have a meal for your vendors. Check with your Caterer for options and cost.

Featuring - Maverick Productions

So often when we meet couples to discuss their wedding day, we get asked questions that pertain to the format that we record in, the type of equipment, and other questions that seem to come from wedding planning websites that provide information that really doesn’t help determine why a couple should book a particular person or company. They may have good intentions, but the questions that should be asked, as below, will help the couple ensure that they have found a perfect match, resulting in the best possible experience before, during, and after the wedding. 1. How will you tell our story of the wedding? 2. How do I know our movie will reflect our personality and show everything? 3. How will my movie sound? 4. How do you deal with lighting and how can it benefit my wedding movie? 5. How long does it take to get the finished movie? 6. May I see movie samples, same as what another couple has received? 7. Why are your services more (or less) expensive than other companies? 8. Why should I hire you to document my wedding? As more people enter the wedding cinema industry, there is a significant difference in a well-meaning hobbyist who is more interested in having fun and making quick money than someone who is dedicated to his or her company and artistic craft, that will ultimately become your most cherished possession of your wedding later on in life.

Jordan and Adam met at the greatest place on earth, Penn State! To most this is a matter of opinion but to the couple who met here and fell in love, it’s a fact. The most memorable thing of the day for Jordan was seeing the look on Adam’s face as he watched her walk down the isle of their outdoor garden wedding. The couple escaped on a two week magical honeymoon off the Amalfi Coast of Italy. Their Love Story

Sarah and Mike met in Elementary School and for Sarah she knew in the 5th grade that Mike was the one for her. In fact she was so certain of this that she wrote about it in her diary. Fast forward several years later and it’s just another night of walking their dog Grover, at least that’s what Sarah thought until Mike proposed. On their wedding day that very page from Sarah’s diary was framed and on display at the ceremony with a class picture. Bride's tip: spend some quality time alone with your husband-to-be leading up to the day of your wedding.

1.Select an event location that ties in nicely with the theme that you have selected for your wedding. Choosing a theme will be helpful during the planning process. Themes help with future decisions that you will need to make regarding decor, lighting and music choices. Once you have decided on a suitable theme, work with your planner and select a perfect venue that offers everything that your theme demands. 2.Set Up a Romantic Entrance: Let your guests absorb and feel the elegance, the ambience and the romance immediately as they walk through the doors. A grand entrance is sure to raise everyone’s spirits and eyebrows as they settle in to your theme for the day. Your entranceway is the first impression of your wedding and creates the mood for your unique celebration. 3.Create Your Desired Mood: The decor that you select helps to create the mood for your special day. The use of lighting and colors can be used to elicit a huge effect on emotions and will set the mood for your wedding. Create an impressive combination by choosing colors to enhance your celebration. 4.Arrange for Music and Lighting Effects: Music and lighting have a big role to play in order to evoke the right mood. Once you have selected your color, move your focus to lighting and then to music. When colored lights are strategically placed around the room a variety of effects can be created. Dim lights, colored spotlights, or LED up-lighting can be used to enhance your first dance, your head table, your cake display table or any other area that you feel should be accented. When selecting your music it is important to consider not only the musical taste and age range of both you and your guests, but it is equally important to keep your wedding theme in mind.

JAMES SEIP PHOTOGRAPHY

TIPS FROM THE PROS

JAMES SEIP PHOTOGRAPHY

Featuring - James Seip Photography

Photography is one of the few things that will last past your wedding day, so put in the effort necessary to find a professional photographer whose style resonates with yours. You need to trust and cultivate a relationship with them. They will be the one vendor that will be with you for most of your special day, so be sure you get along and have the same vision. Make sure you have a plan. Work with your photographer to set a schedule for pictures that you would like to capture on the day of the wedding. Weddings can be slightly chaotic and you don’t want your photography to suffer from a change in schedule or get pushed aside. So block out enough time for your photographs. Take time between the ceremony and reception to get those family formals. Your family may not be gathered all together like this again any time soon, so don’t miss the opportunity to capture this special moment with them. Set aside at least half an hour for time alone, just the bride and groom. The wedding day is about your love story and your lives coming together so make sure and capture that with just the two of you. Communicate your desire for the types of images you want to have captured and then trust your photographer’s vision. A professional will know the times of day and the lighting needed to create the best possible images. Trust them and enjoy the day as it unfolds.

creating signature weddings based on your own individuality Everything Old is New Again: Pop culture continues to re-visit the 1920’s. Downton Abbey… from the popular television series you see headpieces, high necklines, calla lilies for bouquets, soft colors and rich textures. Gatsby…Glitz and glam in everything from headpieces to décor. Gowns feature beading and soft fabrics. Men are clean cut and shaven. It’s Art Deco with pearls and long gloves, drop waists and high illusion necklines. Retro…Think Mad Men with bold colors and shapes. Refined Woodland: More than rustic, it’s bringing nature into your wedding from the woodsy setting to the invitations. Fresh flowers serve as the bride’s headpiece. Florals may be more greenery for the bouquets and arrangements. Old World Opulence: Perfect for an elegant ballroom with swirling ball gowns, long gloves, pearls, lace and leather. With this style, you’ll see glitz, metallics, calligraphy, formal china and stemware, formal dining with multiple courses and elaborate foods and cakes. Everyone and everything is dressed up to the max. Grecian: Today’s runways are featuring these flowing silhouettes. Weddings will be no different with white, metallic and pops of blue. Ode to Greece. Marbelized: This is a faux look that can be duplicated in everything from paper to cake frosting. 104

PREMIER BRIDE 2014

Pop Art Graphics: These weddings inspirations are from modern art and comic books. Color is important. Wedding dresses will have shorter hemlines and be more streamlined and simplified. Of course, there will be pops of color everywhere. Geometric: Take a hint from today’s fashion. You are seeing a lot of geometrics in everything from clothes to home décor. Geometric means clean lines, sleek silhouettes, patterns and prints. High Tech Receptions: You either love it or hate it. For those that love high tech, you’ll see hash tags, photo booths where the pictures can be shared immediately on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media. Charging stations at weddings can be disguised with flowers and greenery. The Phone Check: This is for those that hate high tech. Guests will be asked to check their phone. Metallic Cakes: Cakes are all gold or silver much like you’re seeing in today’s fashion and recent bridal runways. Halo Veils: These beautiful head pieces can be made from anything, fresh flowers to beautiful beading. Imagine your veil flowing from the back of the Halo. For a wedding you and your guests will remember for years to come, pick one thing and make it your signature. We can never stress enough that your wedding is as individual as you. Create your own trend!

TIPS FROM THE PROS

Featuring - Desserts by Mae The best way to get exactly what you want from your vendor is to ask the right questions. For example ask your baker if they will personally transport the cake/desserts to your event or have they worked with your venue before? Many vendors have standard packages, but are they willing to customize their services to meet the bride’s needs. Asking the right questions will give you a better idea of how your vendor operates and it will allow them to understand what is important to you and your fiancé. They say a picture is worth a thousand words so sharing a photograph of your vision on your wedding day is the best way to show your vendor exactly what you would like. Bring your fiancé to the tasting, not all soon to be grooms attend catering and dessert tastings. This is important for the vendors to meet the couple together to get an idea of what they both would like to have on their wedding day. After all the groom needs to like the cake & desserts too!

Collect what you like from wedding magazines and websites and show them to your invitation specialist so they can share your same vision. It should incorporate your wedding colors and the type of ceremony you are having. Whether it be held in a place of worship, catering hall or on the beach. TIPS FROM THE PROS

Featuring - Cecelia’s Bridal It all starts with the wedding gown! It is a good idea to select your gown at least 12 to 14 months prior to the wedding date. Delivery on some gowns can take up to 6 months and you’ll want to leave room for any incidentals and your alterations. Before shopping, check out some of the bridal magazines to get an idea of your style. Do you have a theme wedding, evening wedding, afternoon wedding, destination wedding? All these may determine the “look”. Do try to keep an open mind and try on different designs to determine the design which looks best on your frame. Color is also a factor, depending on the designer, gowns can come in a variety of colors, white, ivory, dark ivory, champagne, blush etc. For personal service and quality shop the private bridal boutiques. Don’t chance your wedding gown to an internet order or a big box store. A local salon can give you the personal attention you deserve as a bride, will professionally measure you and take responsibility for the service and quality of the product. On your wedding day you are the salon’s advertisement, they will take absolute care on how you look. They will also oversee every detail of your gown. Last, enjoy your wedding gown shopping. Have fun and make it a day you will remember always.

Most brides agree: Your wedding day appearance is best left in the hands of a professional. The assistance you employ in choosing dresses, flowers, color schemes and hair styles are also available for nails and make-up too. Cosmeticians and aestheticians may or may not be part of your life, but their nail color and make-up services can ultimately enhance your big day. The appearance you want is natural beauty, but with effective highlights for your wedding pictures. The best prelude to an artful enhancement of your features is by using a professional that only a spa or salon can provide. In addition, a salon or spa will be an island of calm in your final week of tumultuous preparation. A facial will cleanse your skin to best display make-up applications, thereby assuring that you look your best for your wedding day. A manicure is also a finishing touch well worth the time, especially if growing long, strong nails is not among your talents. Nail extensions or tips look most natural when applied by a professional, and will help your own nails grow strong. A consultation on polish before the big day will help you avoid loud or bold nail colors. When the desired effect “on hand” is to complement the rest of you, you’ll also enjoy a relaxing hand massage along with your neat nails. Color SeleCtion finding the right hue First, think about when you will have your wedding. Certain seasons suggest certain colors. For example, you don’t wear dark colors in the spring, and light colors in the fall, it just doesn’t work. Wearing bright colors in the spring and summer is typically the norm. Next, think about where you will be getting married and about the colors that surround the area. Make sure that you aren’t clashing with the red carpet on the floor. What are your favorite colors? Are you going for a more modern or vintage theme for your wedding? If your favorites are magenta and navy, they are a perfect combination, and work very well. If your colors don’t work well together, consider getting some paint swatches or fabric samples to help you decide. Think of the season, and what flowers are going to be easily accessible. For example, if you know that gerbera daisies are in season, and they happen to be your favorite flower, use them! If you love lilies of the valley, make sure that you have them, and incorporate those colors into your wedding color palette. Finding inspiration can be easy, think of your favorite china pattern, or even a printed dress might be just the ticket to finding a wedding color palette. Consider having your maid of honor in a printed dress while your other ladies in waiting are in a solid complimenting color. This creates contrast, and shows that your maid of honor is special! Also, create the same complimenting colors within your bouquets and florals around the wedding. This will make your wedding fragrant, and beautiful!

professional dove release

These magnificent, gardenia-white creatures have been part of wedding celebrations for centuries and can add a grand and symbolic element to every ceremony. The birds are released at a significant moment, usually after the nuptials. A professional dove release business employs birds identical to those seen at Disneyland and the Olympic ceremonies. A miracle of nature enables them to return home upon release, so they will not linger at the site nor be left to fend for themselves in the wild. For a romantic, elegant, breathtaking and very memorable addition to your special day, a dove release is the answer.

TIPS FROM THE PROS

Featuring - Brittland Estates

As a bride you may not want to think about bad weather on your wedding day but when planning an outdoor event you must have a Plan B. You’ll need to discuss these options with your venue, event designer and rental company. The venue can tell you what has been done in the past and what scenarios have worked best. In case of rain you may have the option of tenting your ceremony area or going under the reception tent for your ceremony. When you meet with the rental company be sure to reserve sidewalls for the tent. Reserve a second tent just in case the weather takes a turn for the worse on your big day and you want to keep the ceremony and reception area separate. A week before your event you can look at the weather and make the call to keep them or take them off your rental order. You should also ask your venue if they have a back up generator in case of a power outage. You’ll want to revisit your parking situation in case there is a lot of rain. Make sure guests won’t be stuck in the mud. Maybe offer a shuttle or hire a valet service if needed. Don’t just plan for rain and wind. Also, think of heat. Make sure your guests are comfortable. Maybe have the ceremony under a shaded area, provide cool refreshments at ceremony, or fans for the guests. Remember any changes you make should be relayed to all of your vendors in case they need to make adjustments as well.

Nikki and Bryan were introduced by a mutual friend while attending a fundraiser for a fallen Marine who was Brian’s best friend. While in college Nikki interned at the Naval Academy where she fell in love with the Annapolis area, so when Brian asked if she wanted to walk around the harbor and go shopping, she immediately said yes. After enjoying dinner they went for a walk down to the docks to look at the boats but when they got to the end Nikki quickly turned around to head back because after all it was January and she was freezing! yourfromWeDDIng VoWs the heart with personal details When composing your vows, think of simple sentences instead of complicated sentences with too many words. Decide on a concrete structure, and make sure that you keep the same phrasing like “I promise, I will or I vow.” Some couples opt to have the end of their vows the same, but this is not necessary. Think of the little things about your partner that you love, the little things are what make a relationship special, and this small detail will make your vows perfect. Start early, as with all wedding planning, and make sure you get the go ahead from your officiant to have written vows. When looking for inspiration, borrow words from a favorite movie, or song, or even a poem. Anything that makes you think of your partner and how much you 126

PREMIER BRIDE 2014

love him, will do! Check out popular poem websites, or even movie scripts to gain even more inspiration. Visit the bookstore, or library to look at some vow writing books. Do you have a favorite spot like a restaurant, or movie theater? Write your vows on a take out menu, or even the back of a ticket stub! You can supplement a piece of paper on the back, if there isn’t room! If you include your favorite spot on your wedding day, your partner will know that you had plenty of thought when you actually sat down and wrote your vows. Lastly, if you decide to write your own vows on paper, make sure that you write legibly, otherwise you won’t be able to read them. If all else fails, type them out, and keep them, this is something you want to treasure forever.

Your FurrY Friends including your entire family on your day For pet lovers, having their furry friend present at the wedding is a must have, and for good reason. Pets come into your life, and become part of the family. When getting married, you want your furry friend there to be with you, and they also make for some great photo opportunities. The Pros: Dressing your pet in a wedding dress or tuxedo is probably one of the cutest things in the world. Not to mention, walking them down the aisle and seeing how sweet they look! Pets can provide a comic relief, especially if your pet has a funny personality. If having a small outdoor ceremony, this might be the best situation for your pet. They are free to roam about, (with a designated handler) and can relieve themselves (hopefully before the wedding!) The Cons: Pets are unpredictable, and you don’t know how your pet will react in a situation with two hundred people. You also need to think about if you are going to pick the pet up, will their paws stain your dress? Keep that in mind. If you are the type of bride that is very traditional, you might want to steer clear of having your friend at the ceremony, since you might not know what they will do. If you decide to have your pets present on your wedding, keep in mind that some guests might be allergic, and some guests might not even be animal lovers. Have a designated handler to keep watch of the dog throughout the day as well as take them home that evening. You might want to have your pet present for the ceremony only, and then have the handler take them home directly after pictures.

wedding albuMs holding onto memories

Your photographer will capture the memorable images on your wedding day and your wedding album will preserve them forever. So make sure it is as special as the photographs it preserves. You should make the decision on what style of wedding album you want when you first make arrangements to retain a photographer. Most wedding photographers include the cost of both your and your parent’s wedding albums in their overall package and samples should be on hand for your review. There are a variety of pre-made album styles to accommodate every budget. You can also customize a wedding album from a manufacturer or engage the services of a bookbinder to create a hand-made wedding album. 128

PREMIER BRIDE 2014

Wedding album manufacturers offer thousands of choices of covers, spine sizes, and mounting configurations that will enable you and your photographer to construct a unique wedding album. If you want to preserve your wedding pictures, they can be put in a librarybound album and permanently sealed for better archival quality. Alternatively, you can choose one that will allow you to move the pictures around. Cover choices come in everything from engraved antique leather and timeless medieval tapestries to the wavy iridescence of silk moirĂŠ, as well as other durable man-made materials. By having your wedding album produced by a bookbinder using handmade papers and hand-stitched covers and spines, your choices increase according to

WEDDING ALBUMS your imagination. The art of custom bookbindery uses the age-old techniques of hand stitching, hand turning and embossing using such materials as strong, hard-wearing calfskin or hand-tooled silk to produce beautiful and enduring wedding albums. A skilled bookbinder can create an original design destined to become a highly prized family possession. Whether your wedding album is manufactured or handmade, acid-free pages and tissues rather than conventional matting are a must. Some matting production processes use acid in their paper, and such matting will degrade over time and chemically damage photographs. Acid-free pages and tissues can guarantee the durability of your memories. Some time after your nuptials your photographer will send you the proofs or enlarged contact sheets of your wedding

photos. Although these copies may not be perfectly printed or color-corrected, they will be clear enough for you to begin to choose the photos you want to include in your wedding album. Remember, you’re telling a story in pictures. Keep your album interesting with multi-size picture presentation, matching a large picture on one page with a facing page of smaller photos. You could try pairing tight shots with wide perspectives, or mixing and matching black and whites with color photographs. Some couples choose to have two wedding albums, one for more formal portraits and one for candid shots. Once you have assembled the pictures in a meaningful order, store them elegantly and request album boxes from your manufacturer or a custom box from your bookmaker.

WINTER WONDERLAND bringing something warm to a cold day

Are you a bride that would happily trade a sandy beach for a snow covered hill? You’re in luck! Winter weddings are exceptional for many reasons, other than personal preference of course. Since you’re a winter bride you’ll most likely be having your wedding indoors. If not you’re one daring bride! Since you know indoor will be your venue you can start looking into warm winter settings such as lodges to be married. If you’re getting married in December that’s even better because you’ll save on decoration. Everywhere around you has been decorated for the season and has a magical air of it’s own that can lend the mood to your big day. That being said, lodges will have a rustic feel that’s warm with smells of cinnamon, nutmeg, and pine and huge Christmas trees in the lobbies

and public areas. If this isn’t quite your style then ice lodges might be more suiting. It’s definitely unique and special. These hotels are made specially every year out of pure ice! Everything from your bed to your drinking glass is made from ice. Best of all, the ice artists that design the lodge cathedrals can be met with and talked to before the ceremony to create your own custom cathedral. No one will ever be married in the exact same cathedral as you! Talk about first rate These lodges have everything for your wedding planned out down to the dance floor and lighting. If you’re interested in one book in November when they’re starting to be built to ensure you have a room and a venue. Now that your unique venue has been determined, its time to think about your dress! Since you’ll have to deal with the

WINTER WONDERLAND cold it’s sometimes more challenging to decide on a dress. If long sleeves aren’t your style and you are heart set on a sleeveless dress there are plenty of options for you. In fact as a winter bride you have a unique feel to you on your big day. You’ll feel like a snow queen when you step out into the winter snow in your snow white dress. Since you won’t want to be cold, find what kind of coverup suits you best. If you still want your dress to be seen in all of it’s glory while you’re outside consider fur/ faux fur wraps or fur lined jackets that cover your arms and bust while exposing the rest of your gown. You should be warm since winter dresses come in heavier fabrics. If you want to seem more along the antique line you can consider a cape with a hood. A cape isn’t something that is frequently worn anymore (unless you’re Dracula). This could be your chance to wear one stylishly.

A nice floor length cape with hood and fur trim is a classic image in the snow. This will also give your the opportunity to wear full length opera gloves. Another way to feel like a queen on your day! Since you’ll have snow in your forecast, plan fun activities with your party and groom. Arrive at the cathedral or marriage site in a horse drawn sleigh. After the ceremony wave to your guests from the back of the sleigh. Then snuggle under some blankets with your new husband and listen to the sound of the jingling bells. Ah the magic of winter! As for your guests, have a few rounds of drinks then go outside and have a snowball fight! Make teams and see who can kick more snowy butt; the bride or the groom? Have a wonderful winter wedding and most of all enjoy yourself! Your big day will be special in so many ways, so let the magic of winter carry you away.

TIPS FROM THE PROS

Featuring - Harbor Magic

Baltimore’s downtown Inner Harbor is a fantastic location for your wedding! It provides nearly an unlimited supply of venues, breathtaking scenery, access to fantastic wedding vendors and lots of activities for you and your guests. The Inner Harbor isn’t just for locals, but also for couples who have recently moved here and those from outlying areas desiring an easy-to-reach destination wedding. When you choose the Inner Harbor for your wedding, make sure you choose a venue which gives you and your guests the ability to feel and experience the energy that is Baltimore. Look for outdoor ceremony spaces with amazing views, reception spaces with lots of windows, decks or balconies, and places that can accommodate the unique aspects of your wedding, such as the couple arriving by boat. In addition, one of the most critical aspects of your decision is having close-by locations for photography which offer unique backdrops for important pictures.

Fun with photo booths capturing the excitement and emotion of your guests

A wedding is just one day, so everyone knows photos are a great way of capturing the excitement and emotion for years to come. The professional photographer usually does a great job of snapping the couple, but pics of your

friends and family members celebrating with you will be great mementos going forward. In the past, couples used to leave disposable cameras at tables for guests to point and shoot, but the chance in finding a gem amongst those blurry, low-quality shots is rare, especially when kids get their hands on them. Plus, the cost of developing film is going up steadily. Instead, a fun, plucky alternative can be to get a photo booth. Photo booth rentals are becoming popular at wedding receptions –not only do you get too see everyone in their finest for your big day, but they can take home a quality memory from the wedding. Photo booth rentals are different in size and output. Some give guests prints of their pictures right away, in the

traditional photo booth setting, with the four black and white prints on one single strand. This is a great way to give guests a souvenir right away, especially because it’s a unique type of print. Other photo booths just continuously shoot throughout the night, and provide the couple with a digital record of all the shots taken. Then, guests could go to an online database to choose which photos they want and print them at their own convenience. The newest innovation in photo booths is a flip book, which is more interactive and involves a true keepsake for everyone. With a flip book, a representative from the company is on hand, acting as kind of a mini-director encouraging guests to perform skits or don playful costumes. At the end, it’s put together into a video and everyone receives a copy. One fun way to really spice up the photos is to supply props like goofy hats, accessories, or fake mustaches for guests to poke around with. A chalkboard or dry erase board is also fun, so family and friends can doodle a special message or sentiment and capture it on film. A giant, decorative frame is another fun prop to create the picture-within-a-picture look. When deciding on a rental, choose one where you can really customize it, if you’d like. You could ask for the background to be matching the colors of the wedding, or add your names or the date to a sign at the top of the photo. But no matter how basic it is, your family and loved ones smiling faces will make it a truly personal memory!

Bridal Footwear

make smart choices when deciding on footwear for your wedding As little girls we were enthralled hearing the tale of Cinderella losing her glass slipper, only to be reunited with her prince charming in the end of her fairy tale. Now adults, we now cringe at the thought of wearing a hard glass shoe but still swoon at the thought of our own prince charming.

Your groom, your prince charming, of course will ultimately be the one you stroll down the aisle to. Since you don’t want to follow Cinderella’s poor choice of excruciating footwear, you might want to consider looking into a shoe a little more comfortable than glass. Nowadays, if you want a see thru shoe all you have to do is look shoes with a plastic top. This still may not be the most comfortable shoe in the world but we’re getting there! Choosing your wedding shoes wisely will be a decision you thank yourself for later on down the road. Yes those dainty lace shoes with the three-inch heel are adorable and would look great with your dress, but will your feet stand up to the pressure? Probably not. More than likely, if you have uncomfortable shoes you’ll end up going barefoot and setting those super cute shoes aside for most of the night No one wants to ignore cute shoes either! 140

PREMIER BRIDE 2014

To avoid going barefoot all night, consider a shoe with a slightly lower heel to them. This way you can still have heels on, but not so much to an extreme that you can’t walk because of the aching blisters on your feet. If you don’t happen to find a shoe that you like with a low heel consider flats! Mary Janes or ballerina slippers are cute and comfortable for your special occasion. If you do buy them new, don’t wait until the day of your wedding to wear your shoes, go ahead and break them in. This will assure that you have comfortable footwear for your wedding. Sometimes wearing your shoes means that they’ll probably get dirty at some point. A way to avoid getting your new shoes dirty but still break them in, wear them around the house whenever you get the chance. This way you get a feel for them and they stay nice and clean. A win win situation! Some brides prefer walking the path less traveled when it comes to bridal footwear. Wearing converse or your favorite sneaker has now become a popular trend, showing off your personality underneath the sea of white. These shoes will add the pop of color that you may be searching for in your ensemble. This is also a happy medium for a bride who wants something different but a family who wants to keep things traditional. Another option for you if you’re getting married on the beach, is no shoes at all! Bury your toes into the sand and seclude yourself in the moment. Instead of spending money on shoes, this means you can pamper yourself all the more with a stunning aisle worthy pedicure! Now that you have an idea for your bridal foot wear, what’s your vision?

TIPS FROM THE PROS

Featuring - Smyth Jewelers

“I’m taken!” is the first thing that an engagement ring says about a woman, and the second thing it reflects is her style. It epitomizes all of the things about her that made you fall in love, so the engagement ring is one of the most important purchases you will ever make. It is a constant reminder that you picked her to share the rest of your life together.

®

1) Choose a jeweler as you would choose a doctor. Your jeweler should be armed with expert training, open to questions and able to provide answers in clear, simple language. 2) Know her taste in jewelry & ring size. Notice what kind of jewelry she wears - is she more classic or modern? Does she wear more yellow gold or white gold/platinum? Are her pieces simple or more ornate? Taking the time to note her preferences will make shopping easier because if you buy something similar to what she already likes, you can’t go wrong. 3) Know what diamond shape she prefers. Take notice when she admires someone else’s engagement ring. Keep in mind that she will be wearing this ring all day, every day of your married life. It will need to go with everything from jeans to formal events. If you’re uncertain about her shape preference, it’s best to stick to the classics. 4) Know what style she prefers. Most couples tend to choose classic Tiffany-inspired settings, and some even break away from the simple solitaire for more intricate halo designs and contemporary settings. There has also been resurgence in the popularity of vintage-inspired rings that bring back the romance of the Victorian, Edwardian and art deco eras.

TIPS FROM THE PROS

Featuring - Bradley Images When meeting with a potential wedding photographer, most couples know to ask questions about style, various packages and pricing. Although pricing is usually at the forefront of your thoughts, it is the value of the photography that matters most. The images captured at your wedding will be in your family for generations. Many studios have multiple photographers working for them. Ideally, you should choose a company with a great reputation. It is always best to meet with the owner and make sure this is someone who listens to you and will ensure that your special day runs smoothly. Ask to see the inside photos, not just the highlight images seen in the portfolios. The value of your photography is the entire set of images in the final product. Most importantly, ask if every event is archived. Asking this question does not seem important now, but if something were to happen to your album several years down the road, having the reassurance that your photos are safe will give you peace of mind and provide further indication that your photographer cares about you and your wedding.

Their Love Story

Alice and Matt made plans to go out to dinner on New Year’s Day to ring in the new year. While Alice was upstairs getting ready for their date, Matt was busy turning down the lights and lighting candles downstairs. Matt got down on one knee and asked Alice to marry him and she said yes. Bride’s tip: Don’t be afraid of mixing elements, this will give your wedding a unique feel to it. Also remember to include your fiancé in the planning process, he may have some good ideas as well.
