MESSAGE from the PUBLISHER As we wrap up another issue of Premier Wedding Mississippi I absolutely can not believe we are well into summer. It seems like we just turned the page on the new year, and here we are complaining about the heat and dodging mosquitoes. Time certainly flies when you’re having fun, and putting this issue together has been nothing short of a total blast! This is my seventh issue as editor at Premier Publishing and my first as the new owner and publisher. I’m so excited to finally launch this edition which features even more design and inspiration ideas to help you plan your big day.

Our team has had the opportunity to travel to some wonderful locations around the state this spring seeing the most beautiful venues, and working photo shoots with a few of the most talented creatives in the business. April and Paul shot a breathtakingly beautiful bridal fashion spread at the Saenger Theater in Hattiesburg, and we’ve been dying to share the photos with everyone. Not only are the pictures fabulous, the shoot was especially fun for our creative team which included the ever-talented Kristen Phillips and Christine Cody of the Tracy Branch Agency. These ladies created the incredible hair and makeup looks for two of the photo spreads in this issue. They’ve become a such regular part of our team we just don’t know what we’d do without them. Speaking of all things beautiful, we were simply mesmerized by the photos of our cover bride, Lindsay Vallas. A talented wedding photographer and owner of Lindsay Vallas Photography, Lindsay worked with some of the premier wedding professionals in Mississippi to plan her event. We love to see what wedding industry insiders do when they plan their own weddings, and Lindsay’s did not disappoint. We hope you enjoy this issue of Premier Wedding Mississippi, that you learn something of value to help with your wedding planning, and that you find our pages and the featured weddings of other happy Mississippi couples to be as inspirational as we do.

THE CIRCLE OF
KNOW YOUR METALS
• 14-karat Yellow Gold Classic, durable for daily wear, polishes easily. • White Gold Made by mixing pure gold with white metals; can be a less-expensive; alternative to platinum. • Platinum Very white; heavy, durable metal; ideal for engraving. • Palladium Sister metal to platinum; naturally white metal; strong, non-tarnishing and hypo-allergenic. KNOW YOUR DIAMOND Diamonds are measured by the “Four Cs.” All four features can make a dramatic impact on the quality, and therefore price, of a diamond.
• Cut Proportions of a diamond and its facets, as opposed to its shape. A diamond gets its brilliancy from the cutting which maximizes the reflection of light. • Color White diamonds are graded on a D–Z scale, D being the most colorless. • Clarity The presence of natural marks, called inclusions, in the gem. The Gemological Institute of America judges clarity based on a standard 11-point scale from “Flawless” through “Imperfect 3.” • Carats Diamonds are weighed in carats, which may also be expressed as “points,” where one carat equals 100 points.
State of Mississippi • The male must be at least 17 years of age and the female must be at least 15 years of age.
• Males and females under the age of 21 must furnish the circuit clerk satisfactory evidence of consent to the marriage by the parents or guardians of the parties.
• Application for the license is made in writing to the
clerk of the circuit court of any county in the state of Mississippi. The application is sworn by both applicants and must include the following: names, ages and addresses of both applicants (if under 21, then names and addresses of either parents, guardians or next of kin) and signature of witnesses.
• Applicants must provide proof of age in the form of either a birth certificate, baptismal record, armed service discharge, armed service identification card, life insurance policy, insurance certificate, school record, driver’s license, or other official document that shows proof of age.
• Applicants do not have to be a resident of Mississippi. There is no waiting period.
• If the male applicant is under 17 years of age and the
female under the age of 15, then satisfactory proof must be presented to the judge of any circuit, chancery or county court that sufficient reasons exists and both parties want to be married and the parents or guardians consent, then the judge in any court in the county where either applicant resides may waive the minimum age requirement and in writing authorize the clerk of the court to issue a marriage license.
For more information, contact the Circuit Clerk’s office in any Mississippi County.

HAVE GUESTS WILL TRAVEL
Accomodating your guest from Near to Far
• When planning your wedding, it’s important to consider the needs
of your out-of-town guests, many of whom will be traveling great distances to share in your joyous occasion. You’ll want to make certain their visit is an enjoyable one.
• Most hotels provide a discounted rate when you reserve a block of
rooms. The number of rooms required to qualify for a group rate will vary by hotel. Some hotels offer additional services such as a hospitality suite for your guests to gather for breakfast or cocktails and, if needed, special checkout considerations.
• It’s a good idea to consider the different economic situations of your out-
• Traditionally,
it is the duty of the bride’s family to recommend accommodations for out-of-town guests. It is not their responsibility, however, to pay for them. Include printed information in the wedding invitation such as toll-free numbers for each hotel, the name under which the reservation is held and hotel shuttle information so your guests can call the hotel directly to make their reservations.
• It is appropriate for the bride and groom to arrange transportation to and from the ceremony and reception locations for all out-of-town guests. It is perfectly acceptable to arrange for family and friends to provide the transportation.
of-town guests. Provide two or three options to create a comfortable price range. While some of your guests may be on a limited budget, others will be combining their vacation with your wedding.

The First Impression When your guests receive their wedding invitation, they will immediately form an impression of the ceremony to come. That is why selecting the invitation - the paper, the style, the wording - is an important first step in your wedding plans. Experienced stationers are your best guide, and their advice is available at no charge when you purchase your invitations in their store. Not only do stationers offer assistance on the invitations, but they can also provide helpful hints on when to order and mail them while also determining proper postage budgeting and a myriad of other details. Take time to select your invitations and put thought into the decision. Feel the paper samples. What impression do they give? Understated elegance? Fun? Whimsical? Romantic? Your stationer will know the etiquette for proper wording, including unusual situations such as divorced parents, second marriages, professional titles, religious customs, and so on. Envelopes should be hand addressed in black or charcoal gray ink. You may also choose professional hand calligraphy or an automated calligraphy machine for the envelopes. To determine how many invitations to order, count each couple and single guest, each attendant, parents, family and clergy. Order extra invitations to handle surprises and extra envelopes for addressing mistakes. Be certain to pre-stamp reply cards, weigh the complete invitation to ensure correct postage and remember to select attractive stamps.

Walking into The Mill Conference Center in Starkville, the first thing you notice is the light streaming through the grand hall. Once a working cotton mill, The Mill Conference Center has been renovated and updated to include a number of beautiful rooms for events including this long, stunning hall featuring reclaimed wood flooring , white brick walls, and tons of soft natural light. The doors at the end lead to a well appointed ballroom for large receptions, and the basement boasts a speakeasy entertaining area worthy of any gang of revelers. We wanted to accentuate the natural light and warm, glowing wood of the venue by leaning away from the expected industrial-rustic styling and bringing in soft pastels and draping florals for a vintage garden feel. Angie’s Catering and Floral Design provided the gold chavari chairs, rental furnishings and the beautiful bouquets and florals accenting the copper pipe arch and the industrial metal table. Our bride is wearing sweet, bohoinspired gowns from It’s a Date in Starkville, and The Bride & Groom in Columbus. Both boutiques provided coordinating, but not matching bridesmaid dresses in soft pastel colors to compliment the casual theme. g ow n

lo d g i n g f o r o u t - o f - tow n g u e sts Planning for out-of-town guests can add an extra level of stress for couples. T here are a number of factors to consider before planning to invite out-of-town guests to your wedding. Where will your guests will stay? For how long? Are you required to pay for accommodations for all of your guests or just a few? Inviting a lot of folks from far away also raises transportation issues, increases costs for guest gift bags, and concer ns on how to keep out-of-town guests busy before and after your event. If you are planning on booking hotel rooms for your guests, your preferred hotel group sales department can help with much of the planning. T here are some things to keep in mind before you call and start reserving rooms. what is a room block ?
A room block is a group of rooms that a hotel will hold for a special rate for your event. Each hotel has a different minimum number of rooms that are required for special rates, so be sure to ask in advance. Usually, guests will pay for their own room, at a special rate. Blocked rooms will be released if not reserved by a certain date – usually 30 days prior to your wedding. The rule of thumb is to take the number of invited out-of-town guests and divide by two. types of room blocks
A courtesy room block will not require any upfront payment and there are no penalties for unused rooms. Hotels who offer courtesy room blocks will usually add more rooms at the special rate if you need them. A guaranteed room block will require some sort of upfront payment or will charge you a penalty if your guests don’t reserve a minimum number of rooms in the block, usually 80% - 90% of the rooms. You may want to get confirmation from your guests before agreeing to this type of block. there are a few terms you need to understand before your sign your room block contract .
•
allowable shrinkage – This refers to the number or percentage of blocked rooms that are not booked. This is important if you have
a guaranteed room block as there will be a penalty for unbooked rooms. The target percentage is the amount of unbooked rooms for which you will not be penalized.
•
attrition rate or minimum commitment – This is the percentage of rooms that have to be booked to avoid paying a fee. The target
percentage is usually 80%-90%of the blocked rooms. If you do not book the minimum, you will be charged for up to the minimum percentage.
•
mitigation or resell clause – Ask if your hotel offers a resell clause. This requires the hotel to try to book unreserved rooms from
your block so that you are no longer held responsible for those rooms. If they can resell those rooms, you will not be billed for them. things to keep in mind when blocking hotel rooms : location : Your hotel should be close to your reception venue. 1-2
miles is best if possible. Many hotels will provide shuttle service to local airports and even to your wedding venue. amenities : Your wedding is only going to last a few hours, and
your guests will want to enjoy their time in your town. Select a hotel that is easily accessible to restaurants and entertainment options. Many hotels offer amenities such as restaurants, spas, heath centers, pools, and breakfast. Some offer an incentive such as a complimentary honeymoon suite if your wedding books a lot of rooms.
price point : While you want your guests to enjoy their stay, so do
not reserve rooms at a hotel that is too expensive for most of your guests just because they are offering you a complimentary honeymoon suite. Make sure your hotel choice is in line with most of your guests’ finances. share your hotel information with guests : Make
sure your invited guests know well in advance which hotels have blocked rooms and the deadline for special rate reservations.

While the parents of the bride usually host the first party for a newly engaged couple, Indian tradition dictates that the groom’s family host the engagement party as a way of welcoming the bride and her relatives into their new family. When the time came to celebrate the betrothal of Khush Aujla and Saumya Goel, the groom’s mother and sister turned to Signature Occasions to help plan the elaborate affair. Both the couple and the groom’s family wanted a party that represented their culture and would be a memorable event. They chose a Bollywood theme with all the glitz and glamour of a major film production. From towering centerpieces, white florals and gold accents, the design was glamorous for any opening night. Guests walked the red carpet down a hallway lined with lighted marquee custom movie “posters” featuring the happy couple. Family members performed choreographed dances and skits throughout the night with a special dance designed especially to welcome the bride and performed by the groom, his sister and family.

Often, couples don’t even consider a wedding consultant because they assume that only couples with huge budgets and lavish weddings need one, or can afford one. Not true! Consultants can do as much or as little as you need, and can work with any budget. Often, they can actually save you money with special discounts or experienced knowledge of the best deals and money-saving ideas, so they can help pay for themselves! If your budget is tight, consider using them for just part of the wedding; for example, just the flowers, decorations and day-of coordination. At the very least, have help on the wedding day itself. Just having an experienced professional on-hand to make sure that everything and everybody is where they need to be, when they need to be, is a huge weight off your shoulders, which will give you the freedom to truly enjoy your day.

HAIR ACCESSORIES VS. TRADITIONAL VEIL Hair accessories can be a nice accent for even the most traditional to modern-day bride. Bigger accessories look best when the hair is in an updo. Smaller accessories look best in half-up hairstyles. Headband pieces look great with any hairstyle. If you are going to wear a traditional veil, stick with a simpler hair accessory in the back of the hair.

The perfect wedding dress needs to be accented with a hairstyle that is flattering to a bride. She can peruse magazines to get ideas for a bridal hairstyle, but the final decision can seem to be overwhelming. Consider these helpful trends, techniques, and tips to make the final decision

DRESS STYLES
silhouette and length options
Just started looking at wedding dresses and not sure where to begin? Torn between a ball gown and a sheath style dress? Here are some descriptions of dress silhouettes to help you while shopping for the most important dress of your life!
A dress that creates a close silhouette to the body. Typically, a sheath style uses charmeuse or very soft and flowing material that fits close to the body, with some beading on an overlay. The sheath style gown is a perfect fit for casual weddings.
Also known as a fit and flare gown, the mermaid gown looks great on girls with tiny waists and for those who want to show off their curves. Accentuate the waist with a belt for more definition.
A gown that resembles an “A” that creates a long line for your body. The A-line gown is universally flattering and will look great!
This gown has a fitted bodice and full skirt. It’s the perfect proportion for any bride with a bustier bosom.
This gown is flattering because it created a long line and disguises the hips. Extending from the bust line, this shape is youthful and elegant.
Believe it or not, there are different types of length when it comes to a wedding gown. You can choose a cocktail length, which is just simply above the knee. Knee length is at the knee, while tea length is just below the knee. Highlow length is just below the knee in front with a train in the back of your gown. A ballerina length dress is a dress that is cut just above the ankle, perfect for ballerinas!

Take the Plunge
SELECTING THE PERFECT NECKLINE
Sweetheart
This heart shaped strapless look is a perfect option for fuller chested brides as it accentuates the décolletage. Shorter brides look good in this heart shape as it makes the torso appear longer.
Illusion
Off the Shoulder
An off the shoulder gown creates the perfect silhouette to flatter collarbones, shoulders, and upper arms. This neckline is especially attractive on medium to full chested women.
Halter
The illusion neckline features a strapless gown with either a sweetheart, straight or curved neckline with a sheer fabric covering the décolletage to the neck. Most illusions form a halter or bateau line, but give the appearance of a strapless.
The halter wraps around the neck exposing a bride’s shoulders. This look is best on taller brides who have broader shoulders.
V Neck
Bateau
The V-neckline can range from a simple, modest V shape sitting just below the collarbone to a deep, sexy plunge. This look is best for the average busted girl. The larger the chest, the smaller the V.
The gentle curve of the bateau neck follows the shape of the collarbone almost to the shoulders. This shape is especially good for petite brides with lovely collarbones

Tips for Choosing
Bridesmaid Dresses Color
Do you want everyone in the same color? Are you open to different colors? Would you like to do something new like creating an ombré look? If you are thinking about mixing colors, the best way to choose the right color for each girl is to think about your bridesmaids’ hair color and skin tones.
Be Considerate
Maid/Matron of Honor A great way to do this is to put her in a print, beaded sash, or a totally different dress than the rest of your bridal party. After all that she has done for you, you want her to feel special and look fabulous.
Fabric Choice Decide if you want everyone in the same fabric, or are you open to mixing fabrics to create texture? Mixing textures and using the same color is a great way to create a different look for your bridesmaids. It will give your wedding more of a unique look and feel.
Your friends are excited for you and want to be part of your special day. Be conscious of what you are asking of them financially and personally.
After the
Wedding
Think about what your bridesmaids can do with the dresses after the wedding. Reusable hues, classic styles and tasteful sequins like dark-colored dresses (black, navy, and neutrals) make it easier to wear again.
Bridal Entourage When going bridesmaid dress shopping, bring one or two with you so you don’t have to do the trying on; they can do this and you will have a better idea of how the dresses will look. More than four makes it hard for you to get what you really have in mind for your big day. Pick different sizes and shapes to try on the dresses so you’ll have a clear idea of what to expect on your wedding day.
Be Thoughtful Don’t try to make yourself look better by dressing your bridesmaids in something ugly. You want to choose options that compliment you, your wedding, and your gown. You don’t want your bridesmaids to take away from you.
Style Decide how you want your bridesmaids to compliment you and your wedding gown. Do you want all of your bridesmaids in the same style and/or color? Let’s be honest: choosing one dress for all of your bridesmaids to wear will not always look the best on everyone. You have to consider each attendant’s height, weight, body shape. Is anyone expecting in your wedding party? All this effects how the bridesmaids’ gown will look on that bridesmaid. 070 | PREMIER WEDDING MISSISSIPPI SUMMER / FALL 2017

Brides have many different ideas of how they should shop for a wedding gown. Some appointments are just like brides imagine. They come in with their mother and all their friends. They try on dresses until they find “the one.” Everyone cries, champagne is served, and the bride leaves happy having found the perfect, dream dress. Unfortunately, that is not how bridal shopping usually happens. Here are a few tips to help new brides have the wonderful bridal experience they are expecting at their bridal appointment.
• Shop with an open mind. Every bride loves to look on Pinterest and in magazines for the gown of her dreams. While it is a good idea to have some styles in mind when you start your search, the dress you love in the magazine may not look like that on your body type. Remember, these photos are created by teams of people – professional photographers, hairstylists, makeup artists, photoshop artists, etc. Let your consultant help you in finding a style that looks great on you. • Limit the number of people you bring with you. This is probably the most important thing that can help you have a wonderful shopping experience. “Everybody” has an opinion and they will give it to you based on what “they” like. Bring your mom and maybe two people who fully understand your vision for a gown and support your decisions. Discuss your vision in advance, and do not bring along that friend who is only concerned with what she would choose for herself. Brides can often get frustrated because too many opinions are coming at them. Choosing a gown is an important decision, and it can be very overwhelming to have too much “help” with you.
072 | PREMIER WEDDING MISSISSIPPI SUMMER / FALL 2017
• Shopping in many different stores is not necessary. Limit yourself to two or three appointments, and only go to stores that carry different brands from the first store you shopped. • Don’t worry about the size of the gown. Typically bridal gowns run very small. It’s OK to wear a bigger size bridal gown. Nobody knows what size your dress is. All they will know is that you look gorgeous as long as your dress fits you well. • Make sure you understand the ordering procedure and policies of any bridal salon. Once a bride says “YES” she tends to forget everything else. Get payment details in writing, and make sure you have time to get your dress delivered with ample time for alterations.

PARTY RENTALS Depending on where you choose to hold your reception, you may find yourself in need of certain items not provided by your reception facility. The term “party rentals” covers a variety of rental items, including linens, chair covers, tables and chairs, tents, dance floors, fountains, plants, props and theme decorations. The need for various rental items increases when the event is held outdoors or at an event facility where you are required to provide your own caterer. Find out in advance what the delivery, set-up, pick-up and payment policies are. Be sure to coordinate with the facility manager to ensure the location will open when your rental company drops off your order. From the proper tent size for an outdoor wedding, to the portable dance floor complete with tables and chairs, a good rental company will work closely with you to determine what rental items will be needed to make your guests comfortable and your special occasion a complete success.

GUEST DELICIOUS IDEAS
When planning a wedding, the right meal can set the mood and fuel your guests for a night of dancing. Here are six ideas that will make your food more festive and leave everyone satisfied:
1.
Healthy is in. Healthy meals can be tasty delights.
2.
Go ethnic! Food from around the world is becoming more and more popular at weddings. It’s a great way to get variety into your dinner. It also gives your guests the opportunity to feed their adventurous side.
3.
Beef: it IS what’s for dinner. Steak is in. Popular are South American style steaks seasoned with chile peppers and sofrito or different salsas and a side of Peruvian potatoes. Steak is also delicious tossed into a gourmet salad or thinly sliced on baguettes.
4.
Historic Fondren District • Jackson, MS 601.292.7121 • www.dulinghall.com
Food Stations and Dessert Bars. They’re fun and flavorful, not to mention they add a whimsical touch to your reception. Brides have moved way beyond the pasta stations and candy or dessert bars and have started offering special food bars as part of their entrée and side dish selections. Comfort foods like potato bars with a variety of toppings are popular as are junk food bars laden with sliders, mini hot dogs and tacos. Even the sweet and dessert bars have transitioned from traditional cakes, cookies and tarts to tables laden with several varieties of gourmet popcorn with add ins, s’mores stations, make your own cotton candy and milkshake bars. There is no limit to the kind of food bars that can be incorporated into a reception. These special serving options can be as creative as a couple’s imagination and palate allow!
5.
Add a gourmet twist to a comfort food. Who says your meal has to be boring and formal? Take a casual comfort food like mac & cheese and spice it up by adding a gourmet cheese or lobster and a garnish.
6.
Have smaller portions, but more courses. This more European style is gaining popularity.

selections of exceptional quality. The restaurant’s event coordinator will assist you with your reception planning, and because restaurants host many types of events, may be able to offer additional suggestions and assistance in securing other needed services from musicians, florists, transportation providers and audiovisual specialists.
This is a question you and your fiancé may ask each other often. Why not ask that same question when selecting a reception site? You want your wedding to be a special experience for you as well as your guests. You spend endless hours selecting the perfect dress, the perfect flowers, and the perfect venue. Why not treat your guests to a special meal?
When exploring restaurant reception options, you should:
When planning your wedding you will discover endless possibilities for reception sites; hotels, country clubs, museums, backyard tents and more. Among those possibilities you should consider your favorite local restaurants, the restaurant where you celebrated your last promotion, your last birthday, and where you took your parents when they came to visit. Your favorite restaurant may offer all the style and amenities you require, and most importantly, have the expertise to serve you and your guests an exceptional meal. With your favorite restaurant, depending on the size of your reception, you may reserve a private room or you may be able to reserve the entire space. You, with the chef, may craft a customized menu and wine

an engaging a f t e r n o o n
An engagement photo session is best when the couple is relaxed and enjoying the process. When Premier Wedding’s Digital & Consumer Marketing Manager, Kristen Jolivette came to us with an idea for her own session she had very definite ideas about what she didn’t want – no train tracks, no standing in random barns or some overgrown field, & definitely no over-the-top forced affection kissy-face pictures. We put our staff photographer to work, & she spent some time finding out about Kristen & her fiancé Willie & what activities they enjoyed doing together.
As newcomers to the Jackson area, Kristen and Willie wanted their engagement photos to be a reflection of who they are as a couple in their new home. The young couple will often spend their weekends trolling around the Fondren District. La Brioche is a particular favorite of the pair, and you can often find them sipping coffee and enjoying pastries on Saturday or Sunday mornings. They’re both avid readers & love to browse the area's wonderful book stores, so a trip to Lemuria was a natural stop on their tour.
As usual, the couple was accompanied by their “baby” a young dalmatian named Wren who enjoyed her shopping trip to The Pet Shop Fondren where she gobbled a few treats and left with a new toy. After grabbing a quick snack at Babalu, where the couple had their very first date in Jackson, they headed over to The Apothecary for a final afternoon libation. Kristen was happy that she had photos she loved that were a wonderful way to share the couple's new life with family and friends back home. PREMIERWEDDINGMS.COM | 008

Child’s Play
KID FRIENDLY WEDDINGS
Children can be a precious addition to a wedding. Whether they are in the wedding party or guests, keeping them entertained can be challenging! If you are expecting a lot of little ones, here are some tips to consider. • Create a craft table for the kids. Custom coloring books, bubbles, etc. Will keep kids occupied during the reception and allow them to get creative.
• Throw a candy bouquet! Every little girl pretends to throw their wedding bouquet in their dress-up wedding dress. Make a candy bouquet just for kids and have them join in the fun! • Kid friendly drinks are very popular. Add fruit and Kool-Aid to a large canister with a spout. The kids will love being able to get the drinks themselves, and it’s healthier then just canned sodas. Snow cone bars are perfect for kids to create their own desserts. Kids will love a snack bar filled with popcorn, twizzlers, and cupcakes.
etc. The prop makes the kids feel important in the wedding and gives them a job to be proud of! Have the ring bearer or flower girls hold a sign with something written to the groom.
• For the bride and groom departure, have a glowstick area set up for the kids to take part in the ritual. They can spin and twirl the glow sticks as you skip to the get away car. The glow sticks look great in pictures! • Hire a sitter for the reception! Use a private room at your venue as a place for young children to play, watch movies, or nap while their parents enjoy the festivities of your day!
• Give small children in the wedding party a prop. A tricycle for outdoor weddings, chalkboard sign,

Set up your wedding registry as soon as possible. Inlcude your wedding website link on all wedding stationary including save-the-dates and invitaions.
Take your registry down immediately following the wedding; instead wait a couple months in case guests send gifts after the big day.
Have a range of options and price points at 2-4 stores.
Use your invitations to advertise where you register; instead, have a page on your wedding website that lists and links to where you’re registered.
Keep track of who sent what, and hand write thank-you notes within six weeks after your wedding.
Ask for money outrightinstead, on your registry web page say something like help us take our dream honeymoon.

One of the most important milestones of one’s life is a wedding, but an event such as this is more than an esteemed occasion. In the South, it is an affair to remember. In the South, wedding season is an entire social season. And depending on what part of Mississippi you’re in, even that varies. Months of planning and decisions on caterers, florists, photographers and the like easily keep the bride’s calendar booked. Furthermore, relatives, long time friends, and college roommates come together for an opportunity to get reacquainted with one another and to honor the couple. Visions of white gowns, flickering candles, and the scent of flowers in the air become a reality. But the style of a wedding is only part of what becomes most memorable. In Mississippi, a proper Southern wedding is about ambiance and all that it imparts. For example, the ever popular destination wedding allows the bridal party and guests to take in the local sites and do a little shopping, but it also provides a venue in which everyone can relax, enjoy the momentous occasion, and reminisce.
Perhaps a ceremony in a grand church or cathedral followed by a reception in a high-rise appeals to the bride and groom’s sense of style. An elegantly appointed Southern wedding is easily incorporated into a more modern setting. Taking their vows in an historic bed and breakfast enables a couple to present their wedding in a classically Southern manner while hosting a sophisticated reception on a tented lawn. Above all, a Mississippi wedding is elegant, classic, and traditional. However, it is not dictated by style alone. It is genuinely Southern because of the ambiance it conveys. The atmosphere engages the bridal party and guests and allows them to remember the meaning of the special event - friends and family gathered together in an intimate setting to celebrate a union and to make treasured memories. That truly defines a Mississippi wedding. Join us as we visit Mississippi and the professionals that will make your dream wedding come true.

f you’re looking for a diverse variety of venues, food and fun in a concentrated area, the capital city and central Mississippi are ready for you. From moss-draped trees to big city attractions, the Capital River Region is one of Mississippi’s grandest regions featuring stately mansions, cannon-lined battlefields, and rich southern history. The metro area offers brides a variety of venue choices from historic homes and buildings, locations with rustic charm like the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Museum, industrial and trendy clubs in and near the hip and artsy Fondren district, elegant ballrooms of Country Clubs, hotels and historic homes and buildings, to the stylish and urbane Mississippi Museum of Art and gardens. area which stretches from Brookhaven to the south, north through Madison and Canton, and east to Brandon to Clinton and Raymond west of the city. The Capital River Region also features Vicksburg, one of Mississippi’s most historic and beautiful cities. Located along the banks of the Mississippi River, a visit to Vicksburg offers a glimpse of Old South grandeur, while Civil War re-enactments recall the heartache of a nation torn apart. The bluffs of Vicksburg overlook the majestic Mississippi River for the most scenic outdoor weddings in Mississippi while charming antebellum homes make for unforgettable indoor events. Boasting luxurious historic homes as well as the excitement of casino gaming, Vicksburg brides have both a wealth of history at their fingertips and modern amenities to keep guests entertained all weekend long.
The capital city offers a vast array of amenities for lodging, dining, and entertainment, and travel to and within the region is convenient. Food offerings run the gamut from Southern home-style meals to high end cuisine from award winning chefs and restaurants. When friends and family give you a gift for your wedding, you naturally want to thank them.
Expressing
THANKS
Here are a few tips for achieving a personal, yet dignified, tone and creating a beautiful expression of your thanks.
• Use a system to keep track of
every offering, one that links the name of the giver with the gift, and indicates which cards you have already sent.
• The best way to handle thank you notes is to write them the moment gifts are received. • If you must delay writing your thank you notes, strive for a delay of no more than three months. • A hand written thank you note will always have the most impact when compared to a printed sentiment.
• If you order monogrammed stationery, remember to have some made up with your maiden initials for notes that must be written before the wedding.

DELTA -
home of the blues
On the banks of the mighty Mississippi lies the Delta, a region famous for its agriculture, heritage, and the Blues. Its history is so rich in fact, it continues to shape the Delta’s character today. While fields of cotton are reminders of what was once the old South, the Delta prides itself on the great strides it has made by developing into an area of multi-cultural diversity. At the same time, social graces and southern charm continue to reign supreme. Therefore, it is only fitting that weddings are an occasion in which society abounds and the whole community participates.
-
Perhaps wedding guests will appreciate quite possibly the best aspect of the South: the food. The Delta serves up almost any type of cuisine from barbeque, hot tamales, and crawfish to steaks and southern home-style cooking. There is truly something for everyone. When the wedding and all its glory nears a conclusion and the irresistible food has nearly vanished, guests will leave singing the blues to return to the Delta.
After debutante balls, cotillions, and the pomp and circumstance that surround a young woman’s rites of passage, the events ultimately culminate in a proper southern wedding. For young ladies and their families that have planned for their wedding day their entire lives, only the finest gown, exquisite floral design, and a delectable southern menu will do. When the event of the season comes to a close, guests will leave the Mississippi Delta wanting more.

INCLUDING PETS IN YOUR CEREMONY Your dog is considered a family member and the most spoiled one. Tons of brides want to include their pup on the big day but first there are a few things to consider. IS YOUR DOG SOCIAL? Is your dog friendly? Is he comfortable around strangers and large crowds? You will not want to have to worry about your pet’s well being along with everything else on your special day. WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR PET Not sure where to place your dog in the wedding? The traditional idea is have the dog as the ring bearer. Use fake rings in case your dog eats them or runs away. If you are nervous about the dog acting up, you can have a groomsman leash the dog and walk him down the aisle.
DOG FRIENDLY VENUE First you will need to verify with the venue that your pet is welcome. Make sure your dog fits in with the setting. Outside weddings may be perfect for your pet, but even the cutest dogs may not be welcome in a sanctuary. CANINE COUTURE Male dogs always look adorable in a tuxedo outfit or just a bow tie. As for female pups, a cute tutu or flower halo around the collar are appropriate. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT Be sure to practice the walk down the aisle many times with your dog and reward him with treats, so your pet will be ready for the big day!
Best day of your life.

southern charm
estled on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, Natchez is exactly what you picture when you imagine a Southern wedding. Ceremonies held in elegantly furnished, palatial mansions are commonplace here. Outdoor receptions on the grounds of stately plantations near the river’s edge and buffets under pergolas draped in azaleas and wisteria are also customary. Moreover, the city has more than 30 mansions from which to choose. These venues are only part of the nostalgic charm that lures brides and grooms to Natchez. It is quite possibly one of the most romantic and sought after sites for destination weddings in the country.

A wedding in Natchez will not only be unique, it will be an experience to remember and revisit again and again.
In addition to its beautiful setting, Natchez also easily accommodates the bridal party and guests with its extensive selection of professionals to assist the bride with everything from the announcement party and rehearsal dinner to the ceremony, reception, and honeymoon. DIVORCED PARENTS Dealing with the Situation If your divorced parents are on good terms, count your blessings. If they are not, or if their relationship is marginal, correct handling of these delicate matters can help avoid any unwanted tensions. There are several alternatives you should consider in planning your church wedding and reception arrangements to accommodate your divorced parents. According to protocol, the parent with whom you have lived the longest issues the invitations. The other parent is usually not mentioned unless both parties agree to each of their names being represented. Protocol, however, does not always create good feelings. Try to include both parent’s names on the invitation. When you’re introducing your parents to your future in-laws, it is usually proper to introduce the parent with whom you have lived the longest, then introduce your other
parent shortly afterward. The bride’s father should always walk his daughter down the aisle, except under extenuating circumstances. If that is not possible, a substitute can stand in for the father. A brother, uncle, step-father or close family friend will be fine. Special church seating arrangements can help smooth rough spots. The bride’s mother and her immediate family (parents, husband and children) are seated in the first row. The second row is left empty to afford a better view for the bride’s father, who, after giving her away, is seated with his immediate family in the third row. The same seating arrangement pertains to the groom’s family if they are divorced. The small amount of time and attention devoted to handling these matters will reward you with a day that is as free of tension as it can possibly be.

Unplugged Weddings The what and why of going unplugged In our technology-crazed world, it’s become a habit to check our phones every few minutes, to post a constant stream of status updates to Twitter and Facebook, and to document any and everything on Instagram. At an unplugged wedding, the couple kindly asks that everyone in attendance turn off cell phones, cameras, and other digital distractions during the ceremony and/or reception.. BE FULLY PRESENT
In the midst of all this online connectedness, we’re viewing the world through our phone screens and camera lenses and missing out on true human connections. But people are beginning to wake up and realize just how immersed we all are in our phones and tablets, and there’s a movement to change that. This movement has reached the wedding industry. Brides and grooms want to have face-to-face connections with their guests — especially during the ceremony — instead of staring out into a sea of electronics. If guests are experiencing your big day from behind a screen, are they truly experiencing it? Your wedding is comprised of some of the most important moments of your life; making it unplugged encourages guests to live in the moment with you. Simply put: It encourages your loved ones to be here now. SOCIAL MEDIA SPOILERS
Imagine: You haven’t seen the groom all day. You can’t wait for that “first look.” While you’re getting ready, the Maid of Honor snaps a photo of you in your dress and veil. She has a few minutes of down time, so she posts the photo on Instagram. The groom, also with a few minutes to spare and out of habit, checks for Instagram updates and the first look is spoiled. A first look via social media isn’t exactly the stuff of dreams! Brides and grooms are avoiding such spoilers altogether by declaring their wedding “unplugged.” LEAVE IT TO THE PROFESSIONALS
There are few things that annoy a professional photographer more than an amateur trying to do their job. Overly zealous uncles who jump in the aisle and cousins who stand on church pews can, at best, be an eyesore in your professional photos and can, at worst, completely ruin once-in-a-lifetime moments. Imagine your “kiss the bride” moment blocked by an uncle who stepped into the aisle to snap a photo. The professional photographer didn’t see it coming and his or her hands are tied. Nothing can bring that moment back — it’s lost to a grainy photo on Uncle Al’s smart phone. Another issue is wandering eyes. When your professional photographer stages a group shot of your newly combined families and Uncle Al decides to take the photo too, eyes will wander, not knowing which camera to look at first. This makes the final professional photo just look silly! One way to avoid all of these problems is to have an unplugged wedding, or at least an unplugged ceremony. 188 | PREMIER WEDDING MISSISSIPPI SUMMER / FALL 2017

ortheast Mississippi is bustling. From Oxford to Tupelo to the Golden Triangle, each area offers a unique experience. All areas offer brides big city amenities with some of the state’s top wedding specialists to make a wedding day complete. And all offer that Mississippi hospitality and charm that says, “Y’all come back now, you hear.” Where else can you find William Faulkner and 60 miles away, the birthplace of Elvis? Where else can you find old oak trees and magnolias blooming at stately mansions? Where else can you find the re-vitalization of a community with trendy shops and restaurants? Where else can you find top medical facilities and a top PGA golf course?

There are several ways to make a wedding unique and memorable in this part of the state. From a rehearsal dinner cruise on an excursion yacht along the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, “I Do’s” in an antebellum home or an old restored chapel, or a gathering for out-of-town guests at a bed and breakfast, weddings in Northeast Mississippi are a bride’s dream. Of course, if you really want something unique, there’s a buffalo park, fish hatchery and car museum. Add some of the best restaurants and chefs in this part of Mississippi, and you and your guests won’t leave hungry. Regardless of where a couple decides to host their wedding, Northeast Mississippi boasts delightful towns that are steeped in history and built on tradition – two qualities that are essential for a Southern wedding.
Northeast Mississippi is home to industry, commerce, recreation, and higher education…University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), Mississippi University for Women (the “W”), Mississippi State University, and Rust College, in addition to numerous community colleges. PREMIERWEDDINGMS.COM | 189

Unique Unity CEREMONIES
A unity ceremony is a nice touch to add to any wedding ceremony. The lighting of one unity candle with two is a visible symbol of the joining of two lives into one united pair. There are many alternatives for unity ceremonies if you want to do something different than lighting candles. Some venues do not open flames, and trying to light candles outside can be challenging if there is a breeze. Other options that are just as meaningful can add even more impact to your ceremony as not as many of your guests have seen them before. Those unexpected touches are the things that make your ceremony unique. One of the most lovely unity ceremonies is done with a unity cross. Two pieces of intricately carved wood or resin are combined with gold pins to create a cross
which the couple can take home and display in their new home. There are some beautiful unity crosses available through wedding suppliers. Some even have unity hearts and trees for more secular ceremonies. Couples have replaced the candle ceremonies with sand and liquid combinations adding two colors of sand into a special bottle or hourglass which can be kept and displayed or combining two liquids that change colors when mixed together to symbolize the blending of two people or families. Taking a cue from the Celtic tradition of hand fasting, couples braid or tie knots in ropes during the ceremony to signify the unbroken bond they now share. These ropes can be beautifully displayed as art pieces in the couple’s new home as well.

Getting there in
STYLE WEDDING DAY TRANSPORTATION The moments between the ceremony are exciting ones too, and it’s only fitting to be whisked off in style with your loved one. Here are some tips to make your transport as fun, affordable and memorable as the rest of your day. FIRST HOW MANY? First decide how many people you’ll be moving. Do you want just the bride and groom in a vehicle, or is the entire wedding party heading to the reception together? What about their spouses or dates? Once you make those decisions, you can start searching around for transport based on size. Whatever form of transportation you select, keep safety in mind for when revelers are bouncing from one location to another. LIMOS If there is a day to splurge on this iconic luxury vehicle, your wedding is it. Unlike some other forms of transport, a limo can be booked for an entire day, so you could get a high-class ride to pick you up at the house and deliver you to both the ceremony and reception. Most companies have a one or two hour minimum for their services. If you want a car for both going and leaving the ceremony, it might be more affordable to hire two separate cars rather than pay for the vehicle to sit during a long reception. Many options exist for limos. A formal limousine seats four, but to include the wedding party opt for a stretch limo for six to 10. For larger parties and a flashier mode of transport, sport utility models like the Hummer and Explorer are popular and unique both inside and out. The larger models are often posh, with flashy lights and decorative interiors. CATCH THE COACH For larger parties, a party bus or luxury coach is a great way to travel. Offering all the amenities of a luxury limousine, these elaborate options have room to spare. Or, for even larger groups, a passenger coach or party bus can seat 21 to 49 people. For a small wedding, this is a fun way to get all the guests in on the party right away. Like limousine services, passenger and luxury coach companies require a minimum number of hours. The size and type of coach will determine the hourly rate. Depending on the size of your party it may make sense to hire two coaches, maybe a luxury coach for the bride, groom and attendants and a passenger coach for the guests. 200 | PREMIER WEDDING MISSISSIPPI SUMMER / FALL 2017
TAKING THE TROLLEY A fun and picturesque alternative to a limo or passenger coach is a trolley. They’ll generally accommodate between 20 and 35 people, so they’re great for larger parties or adding on some family members. With this antique look and old world charm, they’ll lend a lovely, elegant touch to this wedding day detail. Since most have outdoor decks, these are especially fun in small towns or neighborhood weddings so you can take a peek outside and watch onlookers wave at the newlyweds UNIQUE ALTERNATIVES Some new couples might opt for something more personal or creative. A horse-drawn carriage is a romantic, vintage option, especially if you can decorate it with your wedding colors. Vintage cars are also great photo ops and add a touch of class. An antique Rolls Royce or a ’69 Mustang are fun and unique. Ride in style like the royal couple did in a decorated navy soft-top Aston Martin Volante, or as with other details in the wedding, make sure your transportation reflects your personality. Does the groom ride a motorcycle? Ride off together on your own bike. Do you share a love of mountain biking? Don’t be afraid to wheel over on a tandem together. Personality is what makes weddings memorable.

around the state
PINE BELT -
hospitality begins here
T
-
he southeast region of Mississippi, also known as the Pine Belt, is made up of several neighboring communities - Collins, Columbia, Ellisville, Laurel, and of course Hattiesburg. While the “Hub City” is the fourth largest municipality in the state and prides itself on recent boosts in economic development, education, and the arts, nearby cities are celebrated in their own right. Each boasts entertainment, shopping, and recreation for planning and hosting weddings.
In nearby Laurel, couples can choose from several historic homes along the oak-lined streets of the city’s Central Historic District to host their ceremony or reception.
Collins and Columbia for instance, feature longtime merchants that offer decorative accents, attendants’ gifts, unique floral designs, and homemade hors d’oeuvres prepared from recipes of generations past. Every detail is designed and organized according to the bride and groom’s specifications.
Regardless of which Pine Belt city couples choose to host their nuptial events, each is unique and each one provides everything needed for your special day.
Hattiesburg, home to the University of Southern Mississippi and William Carey University, is conveniently located less than 100 miles from Jackson, the Gulf Coast, Mobile, and New Orleans. The “Hub City” is filled with businesses where a couple can find everything they need for their perfect wedding.
The same holds true for Ellisville. Although most are familiar with Jones County Junior College, Ellisville businesses are accustomed to planning rehearsals, weddings, and receptions.

CONFETTI
Confetti cones are given to guests in fun shapes or shades matching the bridal party attire.
SPARKLERS
Sparklers have become a very popular send-off item especially for night weddings.
LAVENDER
Biodegradable and fragrant, nature loving brides love lavender or dried herbs.

What started as a young brides vision of her perfect wedding venue, soon turned this family farm into one of the most unique and beautiful wedding venues in the south. Situated in the beautiful rolling hill pastures of Kentwood, Louisiana, elegant vintage meets rustic charm. Post and beam construction gives way to gorgeous whitewashed ship lap walls, centuries old front doors, elegant chandeliers, and bride and groom suites that you won't want to leave. The vintage elegant style flows from The White Magnolia straight into the ten guest cottages.
