Premier Ltd. inaugurates new Design & Technology Centre in Bangalore, brings home FIE Foundation Award at IMTEX 2011 Innovation characterised the inauguration of Premier’s Design and Technology Centre in Bangalore on January 21, 2011. Gracing this event, as chief guest, was Mr. Rajiv Rajpal, Vice President, Triveni Engineering & Industries Ltd, Mysore. This 8,000 square foot design and technology centre can accommodate up to 40 design engineers, a fast growing team that excels in the usage of software designed to create highly sophisticated CNC machines. This centre will focus on designing new and innovative machines as well as developing related software, special purpose machines, and technological upgradation of existing machine designs. The development of machine-related hydraulic systems and automation will also be carried out at this cutting-edge design centre. Breathing life into the popular adage, “Creativity is a lot like looking at the world through a kaleidoscope”, the colours and spaces at this centre provide a conducive environment for piecing together ideas to form a perfect product. Displaying refreshing architectural design are elements such as the ‘storm in a cup’ - an area for brainstorming or the ‘think wall’, a mural in vibrant colours and textures. Speaking about his work, Lakshman Moirangthem, Design Head, Shreekant Lele and Asssociates says, “Unlike traditional office spaces, this design centre creates an environment that will stimulate and inspire the designers. High contrasting colours, dynamic flooring, innovative arrangement of furniture, swooping curved walls, have all added to this dynamic interior. The intention was that the interiors must exude a certain sense of excitement and drama that sets the right mood for work.” Apart from being a perfect ground to showcase newly developed machines, this centre will also serve as the company’s marketing office for the Karnataka region and its service centre for the Southern part of India. Premier will also host presales demonstrations for customers and training for service staff here. “Our intention is to have a customer-friendly venue to showcase our products, especially new technology in machine tools. Our customers can enjoy a hands-on experience through their very own customised demonstration. We are a complete machining solutions provider,” says Mr D D Mulherkar, Vice President (Machine Tool Division), Premier Ltd. With such drive to excel, it is hardly surprising that at the recently held IMTEX 2011, Premier was bestowed the FIE Foundation Award for the ‘Technologically Innovative Product’ category for its CNC High Speed Gear Shaper (Model no. PSC 250). This award, presented exclusively at IMTEX, is given to ten machine tool manufacturers for developing technologically innovative products and displaying these at IMTEX. The decision is taken by a panel of judges, which includes experts from the FIE Research Institute, other nominated experts. The PSC 250 model that bagged this award is a special machine with kinematics and software designed to generate a helical path eliminating the use of a conventional helical guide. This builds flexibility in the machine and eliminates need for a set of helical guides leading to huge saving in cost to customer. This machine, which is a product of pure in-house design, has been used for the first time in India, with only a few global players who have this technology. Apart from this machine, Premier Ltd. also manufactures other CNC machines, including CNC gear-
cutting machines, CNC vertical turning and turnmill centres, machining centres and custom-built special purpose machines.
