Welcome

AVIVA STADIUM September 16th 2015

The Theme of this year’s Food & Drink Business Conference & Exhibition is

“How To Scale A Food & Drink Business” Dear Delegate, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for attending the 2nd annual Food & Drink Business Conference & Exhibition. Registrations for this year’s event have doubled from last year which illustrates the level of interest in Irelands most important and dynamic manufacturing sector. The theme of this year’s conference and exhibition is “How To Scale A Food & Drink Business”. Food Wise 2025 which builds on the success of Harvest 2020 has set out significant growth targets in all of the key sectors of the Irish food and beverage processing industries. The new 10 year plan targets an 85% jump in the value of exports to €19 billion by 2025. The growth is expected to deliver an additional 23,000 jobs is based on the projected expansions in dairy, beef and seafood, as well as a doubling of consumer food and drinks exports. The plan identifies a surge in global food demand driven by emerging middle class populations across Africa and Asia as significant opportunities for Ireland. In beverages the plan envisages doubling whiskey output by 2025 and an increase in the number of microbreweries from 21 to 100 To achieve these targets indigenous companies must be able to scale up to increase sales to our local retailers but more importantly to develop sustainable export markets. The conference will hear from key note speakers who have a proven track record in creating growth through investment, innovation, marketing and automation. Food and beverage manufacturers on the Island of Ireland are perfectly placed to capitalise on our reputation for producing high quality, safe and sustainable products which are respected and sought after in retail and food service sectors. This year’s conference will include a number of dedicated workshops. All of the presentations will be available to view on our website following the event. The workshops will focus on: • • • •

Craft Beer & Spirits Food Safety & NPD Free From Food Technology & Innovation

Finally I would like to personally thank all of the speakers, sponsors and exhibitors who have contributed to making this conference possible. Without their support it would not be possible to stage such a comprehensive event. I would also like to thank my esteemed chairman, John Whelan, whose advice and support was invaluable. If you are interested in presenting, sponsoring or exhibiting next year please do not hesitate to contact me. I hope you have a very enjoyable day. Yours sincerely

Colin Murphy

BORD BIA WWW.BORDBIA.IE

Bord Bia/Irish Food Board was established by an act of the Irish parliament (the Dail) and came into being on the first of December 1994. It brought together the former CBF (Coras Beostoic agus Feola – the Irish Meat and Livestock Board) and the food promotion activities of the Irish Trade Board, now part of Enterprise Ireland. Responsibility for the development of the horticultural industry in Ireland, which rested with the former Bord Glas, was integrated into Bord Bia on July 1st, 2004. Horticulture is divided into two main sectors – the food sector (e.g. fruit and vegetables including mushrooms, potatoes and glasshouse crops) and the amenity sector (e.g. trees, shrubs, flowers, and bulbs).

They have an extensive and in-depth knowledge of the Irish industry, which we are happy to share. www.bordbia.ie PROWINET WWW.PROWINET.COM
