Thank you readers and advertisers It's easy to get the news from around the world, at least on the major events, but people really want to know about what happens around the corner too. A local newspaper has a larger effect on the life of local citizens. For example, a new business opening, a rash of crime, road construction, traffic problems, and local high school sports etc. The main stream newspapers cannot cover all these things. The local paper fills in the gap on such matters. Local newspapers can play an important role too, in lobbying councils to help local people. We at Whiteline Flash are committed to stand with the citizens and raise their voice. If you have any specific issue or you wish to highlight it for the attention and speedy action of the local bodies, government authorities or courts, please write to us. I am happy to share the news with our esteemed readers and advertisers that the print order and circulation of Whitline Flash is increasing. I take this opportunity to thank our readers and advertisers for their continued support and trust reposed with us. We rededicate our endeavours as a responsible local newspaper for the citizens. In the concluding part of the lead story Dombivli's Noxious Pollution Threat, Whiteline Flash discusses about how Dombivli has become the most polluted place, who is the real culprit, is it the KDMC Mayor or Commissioner or MPCB sub-regional office at Kalyan or the chemical companies of MIDC? According to a recent nation-wide study conducted by the Indian Institute of Techonology, Delhi, for the Union ministry of environment and forest about the most polluted industrial clusters and their impact on public health has released the result during December last week has identified Dombivli as the 14th most polluted city in the country and second in the state, which has reached critical levels of pollution and can vitally affect the health of the residents of these areas. The most affected area in Dombivli is MIDC which has two zones namely residential and industrial. Both the zones in the about five Km-long area are boxed together in an uneasy alliance of urban and industrial growth. The residents say, this is a great contributor to the rising levels of pollution in the city of more than 15 lakh people.

Citizens cry foul incessantly, still Dombivli pollution spreads alarmingly. The danger is being silently encouraged by all from all corners. The unexpected worst is becoming soon an inevitable truth. The civic and regulatory bodies, state and central governments are gross inactive and lethargic. Why Dombivli has become the most polluted place? Maharashtra and Gujarat. The brightest jewels in India’s industrial crown. But impressive industrial growth figures fail to hide the grim realities of environmental pollution. While, the state governments are

only bothered about industrial growth, the civil society is struggling to draw public attention to the impending danger to the environmental and public health. Industrial survey statistics tell you that more than one-third — 36.3 per cent — of the total value added by to the raw materials through manufacture in the factory sector of the country comes from Maharashtra (23.66 per cent) and Gujarat (12.64 per cent). Easily, the two most industrialised states of India. Governments of both the states claim they have created immense prosperity in the region. 2 But statistics do not tell you

It is mandatory that large chemical plants should have their in-house effluent plant. But, greedy company owners under the cover and blessings of lenient regulatory bodies and its officials breaking the laws and regulations consistently and claiming with supporting records that they were in compliance with the laws and regulations. Thus since years they release untreated industrial waste through open nalla towards the nearby creek for dispersal. It is an illegal act with legality in records. It is believed that to operate an effluent plant successfully the

charges are anything between Rs. 2,00,000 to 3,00,000 and for one week Rs. 14,00,000 to 21,00,000 per week. However, it is alleged that for a mere weekly bribe of Rs. 1,00,000 to Rs. 2,00,000 chemical plants can enormously save Rs. 12,00,000 to Rs. 18,00,000 per week and without any fear of any punitive action they freely emit toxic waste and gases. People are under the impression that MPCB, civic body and state and central governments give full patronage and shield for the cover up. Is it true? If not, why no action against these chemical companies?
