Your story is our story.
Your story is our story. Founded in Albuquerque in 1908 before New Mexico became a state, Presbyterian Healthcare Services has become a part of New Mexico’s rich history. From the beginning we have been committed to serving our community with compassion and with the highest level of quality health care possible as the state’s only private, not-forprofit healthcare system. Today, after more than 102 years, we are guided by our founder’s values and the needs of New Mexicans. We draw on our strength as an integrated healthcare system – the interconnectedness of our hospitals and clinics, our employed medical group and clinician partners, and our health plan – to transform healthcare and radically improve our customer’s experiences. As you go through this report, you’ll see evidence of our transformation of how we’ve helped patients and members find the care they need, understand their role in becoming healthy, and how we’ve used leading edge process improvement tools to design more efficient and safer systems for our patients and members. We continue our efforts to earn national recognition for the quality of the health care we provide because we know this benefits our patients and health plan members and brings needed excellence to our communities. Thank you for being a part of Presbyterian’s story of improving the health of the patients, members and communities we serve.

Caring for those in need During uncertain economic times, more people rely on community health systems like Presbyterian to receive their healthcare. As government programs are faced with difficult decisions due to the state budget deficits, our health plan and hospitals absorbed a cut of nearly $200 million in 2010. Due to our charitable purpose, Presbyterian remains fully committed to providing free care to those in need.

In 2010, Presbyterian provided

at cost in free medical care to patients who could not afford it. We provided an additional

Presbyterian report to the community
MEETING THE NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITIES In Rio Rancho, New Mexico The fastest growing city in New Mexico will celebrate its first hospital in October 2011 when Presbyterian Rust Medical Center opens the doors of its full-service, 66-bed hospital. For two decades, Presbyterian has been providing healthcare services in primary care, specialty care and emergency services in Rio Rancho. Currently, Presbyterian’s 97 physicians and providers located at our West Side facilities handle more than 200,000 patient visits annually. Presbyterian Rust Medical Center will be New Mexico’s first 21st century hospital and will include proven design elements that help staff deliver care and help patients heal faster. It will provide inpatient services such as mother-baby care, neonatal intensive care, orthopedics, surgery and outpatient services that will include emergency care, full imaging and surgical services. Providing the needed services for this growing community will create more than 400 permanent jobs with a $50 million payroll. Presbyterian Rust Medical Center represents the single largest capital investment in Presbyterian’s 102-year history. This is where Rio Rancho’s babies will be born, patients will heal and the community will be cared for.

Your story is our story. We are transforming health care. Our efforts at transformation grew from the necessity to improve care and efficiencies while reducing the cost of our services. These efforts enable us to improve quality, lower costs and serve the future healthcare needs of our state. We have documented some of the compelling stories which show how we are transforming health care at Presbyterian. You can see for yourself how we are working to improve the care we deliver and the systems and processes we use.
