Remnants of Glory By Christene Bell, LPN

When you look at my residents, what do you see – those who are frail, handicapped, confused – oh yes, some would agree. I look at my residents, and what do I see – I see remnants of Glory looking back at me. Do you see Bill walking down the hall? He cannot find his room and he almost falls. He related to me secretly one quiet, rainy day About the war he had fought in with his best friend, Ray. Young and care-free they were in

Viva volunteers! Volunteers are just ordinary people with extraordinary hearts. They offer the gift of their time to teach, to listen, to help, to inspire, to build, to grow, to learn. Once again, we will take pleasure in recognizing our wonderful resident volunteers this month. April 18 will be our annual Volunteer Brunch in our assisted living dining room, 10 – 11:30 a.m.

GLORY, continued from page 1

Who is that lady with food on her face?

yesterday.

those days since past…

Do you see her as old and merely a disgrace?

I look at this lady and what do I see – a remnant of Glory looking back at me.

A school teacher she was, young and beautiful in her day,

Please look in the mirror, a reflection you’ll see –

Now 90 years old she has nothing to say.

Most likely someone in pursuit of their dream,

Husband and child have passed, all friends now gone through this progression of life –

Whatever it may be.

Just day-to-day coping is so much strife.

A remnant of Glory with stories untold.

We care for our residents as we see them today,

Look at my residents, see what I do,

Sitting together, Ray was killed in a blast. Many years have come and gone in Bill’s life since then, Others not aware of the past that Bill still lives in. Why does he cry when a loud noise occurs? Staff and visitors wonder, but oh, Bill and I know. I look at Bill and what do I see – I see a remnant of Glory looking back at me.

Let’s not forget how they were

Oh, look at yourself as you may be when you’re old –

Remnants of Glory looking back at you.
