Community Matters The Glen at Aberdeen Heights
October 2017
Upcoming events Spooktacular sight
Our next door neighborhood school will help us celebrate Halloween again this year by having their annual costume parade. About 600 children will walk our circle driveway all dressed up! Please join us. The date has not yet been determined, so watch for the signs.
Honoring veterans
This year we will celebrate our veterans by having a meal fit for a king in our Activity Room. We will have a carving station with all the trimmings. The room will be decorated with flags from the Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy and Coast Guard. Afterward, the ladies will join them as we are entertained by Mike Farmer, who will sing the songs of the era.
Resident input shapes meal offerings Dining Services Manager Greg Stelzer knows that good food can dramatically improve a person’s quality of life, so he makes sure to take resident input to heart when developing menus. “I make sure to attend care plan meetings and residential meetings, and I take their ideas, likes, or dislikes and try to punch them in on menus that a dietician will approve of. For instance, if they tell me they like sloppy joes, I can switch something on the menu that was signed off on by a dietician as long as they are still receiving the same amount of nutrients with the item that I replaced. I would probably switch something like cowboy chili with the sloppy joes,” said Greg. “I also type up the menus on a different format that I think is easier for the residents to understand and follow. The recipes that the dietician has us follow are very specific so we can match certain nutrients that a resident needs every day. The cooks in the kitchen follow these recipes exactly. This also helps us with knowing what to order and when. The recipes will even let you know what diets are approved for a particular item and which ones aren’t.” We appreciate the care and attention Greg and his team give to ensuring that residents are satisfied with their meal selections!
