Sending ‘Angels’ to the Good Samaritan Program Special angels will soon be adorning Christmas trees and holiday displays at every Presbyterian Manors of MidAmerica (PMMA) senior living community. The “angels” are paper ornaments that will arrive throughout the holiday season along with gifts to the annual Christmas Angel Appeal, which raises funds for the Good Samaritan Program for Benevolent Care. Donors who make gifts are asked to return paper Angel ornaments along with their gifts. The ornaments pay tribute to donors’ family members or friends and are displayed at PMMA communities designated by the donors. During the past two years, donors to the angel appeals have given more than $90,000 to the Good Samaritan Program. The program assists PMMA residents who have out-lived their financial resources through no fault of their own. Since PMMA began 66 years ago, no residents have been asked to leave because they exhausted their financial resources. If you would like to participate in the Angel Appeal, please email development@pmma.org or call 800-336-8511.

Dan Brook’s car, a 1932 Oldsmobile, had a stunning yellow and red paint job.

My favorite car Dan Brook recently shared this memory about his vintage car and the great memories it made for his family. “It was a bright yellow two-door coupe with a rumble seat and red wheels—a 1932 Oldsmobile. I acquired it in 1961 for just $350. My three sons still remember it, especially riding around town and down the Garden State Parkway, going to the beach with the top down. It’s easier to remember the car than the beach. “It was like riding in an open-top SUV of today, because you looked down at everyone as they passed you by. It was high in the sky, and everyone waved at you, and naturally we waved back. What fun it was as my boys grew up.” Dan stored his ’32 Olds at his brother’s home. Many years later, Dan eventually sold the car. His buyer was the guy Dan bought the car from in 1961, but he didn’t realize Dan was the guy who bought it from him.

Thanksgiving is an autumn day And a tree of scarlet hue, A special time we set aside When thanks alone are due. Thanksgiving is a quiet place Where we may kneel in prayer And there converse alone with God, Enfolded in his care. Thanksgiving is a table spread With bounties from the land, A special time to share with all God’s wealth in every hand. Thanksgiving is a sacred time To praise our Lord above For guidance through our Earthly days, For his comfort, care, And love. Thanksgiving culminates a year Of blessings from God’s store. He pours them forth to all on earth Then offers more and more. We give our thanks and Praise to Him, For he has blessed our days With life and health and blessings In many uncounted ways. And that’s what Thanksgiving is—a Personal time to commune with God and pour out from our grateful hearts Our undying gratitude for all His blessings.
