New giving option now available Your old vehicle could help “drive” the Good Samaritan Program at a Presbyterian Manor senior living community of your choice. You can donate your car, truck, boat or other unneeded vehicle through PMMA’s new vehicle donation program. When you call the toll-free number, we’ll arrange to pick up the vehicle, even if it’s not running. You will need to provide your vehicle’s title with the vehicle. Its sale price is then tax deductible. You can consult IRS Publication 526 to help you figure its current value. To make your vehicle donation or for more information, call toll free, seven days a week, at 844-490-GIVE (4483), or go to ArkCityPresbManorCarDonations.org and choose “Donate Now” to access the online form. Vehicles need to be intact and in towable condition. Exceptions to the program are vehicles whose value would not offset the cost of towing. Presbyterian Manor benefits Alzheimer’s Association Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor is gearing up to raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association with the Cowley County Walk to End Alzheimer’s and the Color for a Cure run. “Although Color for a Cure is a way to raise funds, to me it is also important to spread the word about the prevalence of Alzheimer’s and the need for more research and answers,” said Tara Clawson, marketing director. The Color for a Cure run will be Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Arkansas City Senior Citizen Center. The money raised by participants and supporters will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association and counts toward the Cowley County Walk total. The Cowley County Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place Saturday, Sept. 12, in Winfield and will start at the VFW. To help raise money, Presbyterian Manor will once again register its own team in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s just as it has done for several years. ACPM, continued on page 2

funds through no fault of their own. Thank you for considering a gift to help our residents who have a financial need.

A variety of fundraising activities are being planned for this, including T-shirt and bracelet sales. The back of the T-shirt was designed by a Memory Care resident at Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor. Other fundraisers include a lawn movie showing of “Still Alice,” as well as favorites from last year like “flock of flamingos,” which was a big hit with the community, said Tara. If you are a Presbyterian Manor resident or a member of the Arkansas City community and

want to get involved in fundraising, please contact Tara at 620-4428700.

Devotional: Preparing the soil By Wayne Rector, Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor resident

The wheat harvest in our area is nearly over. It has always been one of the great seasonal sights to see, the combines moving back and forth across the fields reaping the ripened grain.

Often, the dust of the combine has hardly settled when the disking process begins. The disk breaks up the stubble and opens up the ground so that it can more readily receive and hold the moisture from late summer rains. Have you ever spoken a word for the Lord, or witnessed as to your faith and wondered, did it do any good? You may have prepared the ground. You may have opened up a new avenue of thought for someone, and helped them be more receptive to the word of God and his saving grace. I am convinced that whatever we do for the Lord, no matter how small it may be, it will not be lost. Do you have a friend or dear loved one you are witnessing to and praying for? Do not give up hope. 1 Corinthians 9:10 says that “he that ploweth should plow in hope.” Do not give up. Keep “plowing,” keep hoping, keep praying, and keep pointing the way. God is still in charge of His world and prayer changes things. Our Father, guide and direct us, and may your will be done in each of our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
