Career changes led Misty Killman to PMMA position CNA Haleigh Howcroft
CNA Haleigh Howcroft finds that teamwork makes the dream work Four years ago this August, Haleigh Howcroft joined the staff at the Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor as a dining services aide and has experienced growth since then in more ways than one.
“I grew to love the people around me, the residents and I wanted to do more,” said Haleigh. After working as a dining services aide for a couple of years, Haleigh was ready to grow her career and worked to pursue her CNA so she could do more for the people she loved. “I could provide a lot more care.” Another big reason Haleigh enjoys her job are the people she works with every day. “The people and the teamwork that we have whenever I come to work is nice. It’s a nice change,” said Haleigh. In her free time, Haleigh enjoys spending lots of time with her six-yearold son including hunting morel mushrooms when they’re in season. She also likes to work on her photography. ◆
Growing up in the small town of Dexter, Kan., Misty Killman had an experience in high school that led her to a career in health care. “We had to do community service, and I did mine at the nursing home in town. I just got attached to the residents there. I got to talking to some of the aides that worked there and thought I could see myself doing something like this. Now I can’t imagine doing anything else,” said Misty. She originally attended college with plans of majoring in nursing – she had grown up watching a few family members who were nurses—but she discovered that nursing wasn’t the right path for her, and she stuck with her CNA instead. she has earned her CMA and has also helps with transportation on our campus. “I get to do a little bit of everything, and I get to work with the residents in different ways. It’s been nice,”
said Misty. Celebrating her ninth anniversary on staff this month, Misty’s favorite part of her job is the people. “I enjoy the residents and the employees. We get pretty close. It’s just like a big family. I absolutely love it,” said Misty.
When she’s not at work, Misty likes to spend time with family, and she recently discovered a new pastime. “I started taking kickboxing and jiu-jitsu classes. I wanted to try something different to get in better shape and it’s definitely been a good stress reliever,” said Misty. ◆
