COMING UP IN COMMUNITY MATTERS:
Everyone has a story to tell
Staying in touch with your children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren often means getting used to using some new technologies. How do you use technology to keep up with your family? How has technology made life easier? How has technology kept you close to family and friends who live far away?
If you’ve got a story to share about how you’re using technology, contact contact Heather Germann, marketing director, and your story could be featured in an upcoming edition of Community Matters.

Receptionist Linda Minter Puts Residents Before Retirement
When Linda Minter moved from California to Clay Center in 2005, she only planned to stay a short time to be with her dad. “My intention was to hot foot it back to California after he passed, but then I met this wonderful man and that took care of that,” said Linda. The man, Dennis, married Linda five years ago this September and is also the reason she took the job at Clay Center Presbyterian Manor. “He persuaded me to come here, and I was against it Linda Minter has assisted because my mother had passed away in a nursing residents as the administrative home, and I didn’t want any part of it,” said Linda. services assistant for more “Then I walked in here and realized it wasn’t a than eight years. nursing home. It’s gorgeous! The next day they offered me the job and I just said, ‘yes.’ I think it was meant to be.” Linda will celebrate her ninth anniversary as administrative services assistant for Presbyterian Manor in September. Over the years she has stayed busy recognizing employee and resident birthdays, taking care of the dietary log, copying all the calendars for the activity director, managing the Manor Musings newsletter and taking care of whatever else needs to get done. Her favorite part of the day? “Interacting with the residents,” said Linda. “I love my residents. They’ll come up to my window and we’ll talk. That’s the best part of my job.Without them I wouldn’t be here.” The residents and co-workers are also the reason she’s stayed longer than expected. “I’ll be 70 in October and said I would retire at 70, but I’ve raised it to 72. I might raise it to 75,” said Linda. “I have great co-workers and my residents … I love each and every one of them. They take precedence over everything else.” When she’s not at Presbyterian Manor, Linda spends her weekends at the farm she and her husband own. She enjoys treating herself with a trip to Manhattan once a month and stays very involved with their church. She also enjoys driving back to California every couple of years to visit her son, his wife and her granddaughter. Join us in recognizing Linda for all her hard work during Administrative Professionals Day on Wednesday, April 27!

Living life to the fullest, how occupational therapy can help you
What is occupational therapy? How can occupational therapy help you maintain your independence? These and other questions will be answered at a free presentation April 14 at Clay Center Presbyterian Manor. Erica Lehman, therapist with RehabCare, will answer these and other questions about occupational therapy and the benefits seniors can get from it. Occupational therapy takes a holistic approach to patient care, considering psychological, physical, emotional and social aspects as well as the individual’s environment to create a specialized approach to therapy. RehabCare is the therapy provider at Clay Center Presbyterian Manor. “Living Life to the Fullest” will begin at 2 p.m. April 14 at Clay Center Presbyterian Manor, 924 Eighth St. The presentation is free. The talk is a partnership between Presbyterian Manor and RehabCare and is part of Clay Center Presbyterian Manor’s Just Ask series, a free, ongoing lifelong learning program featuring information from local, regional and national experts on topics of interest to older adults and their families.
