over. Our artists prove it’s never too late to create art, in any form.

Local competition winners will join winners from 14 other PMMA (Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America®) senior living communities

Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor is excited to announce the winners of its recent Art is Ageless® juried competition and exhibit.

“We’re honored that local seniors allowed us to exhibit and judge their wonderful works,” said Megan Giger, life enrichment assistant. “Art is Ageless is unique because it only features the works of artists who are 65 and

to be judged at the masterpiece level. Winning entries at the masterpiece level are selected for publication in PMMA’s annual Art is Ageless calendar and note cards.

Art is Ageless is a copyrighted program of PMMA®. The program encourages Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor residents and other area seniors to express their creativity through its annual competition.

In the Spotlight: Betty Johnson and Digger

Moving into the duplex in October of 2019 was a blessing for resident Betty Johnson. Not only did she and her husband get to move in before COVID-19 hit, but there was also room and an outdoor space ideal for their dog, Digger. “She has plenty of room to roam over here and we have a court for her, so she doesn’t run wild.”

Digger is 15 years old and part papillon, part toy terrier. “She’s small but is getting fat,” said Betty. “She’s put on weight this winter and is up to 15 pounds. I have two bad knees, so we don’t walk like we used to. The lead is pretty long on the patio, and we have a lot of yard south of us, so that’s all the exercise she gets anymore.”

Betty shares that Digger, or “Diggy” as she calls her since she’s a girl, isn’t too friendly with other dogs, she’s very friendly with people. For fun, she also likes to play with Bacon Bits. “She gets two treats and she’ll throw them up and try to catch them. She’ll do that for five minutes before she eats them.”

Diggy also made a good impression on the judges at the 2023 Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor Pup Parade where she took home a medal for “Most Unique.” As Betty shared, “I don’t know what makes her unique –she does have little, short legs and a short terrier tail.” The medal is proudly framed and hangs on Betty’s wall. u

Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor’s annual “Golfin’ for Good Sam” tradition continues

Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor’s annual golf tournament “Golfin’ for Good Sam” raises almost than $18,000 for the Good Samaritan Program.

The event’s name, “Golfin’ for Good Sam,” is a reference to the tournament’s ongoing support of PMMA’s Good Samaritan Program—a program that provides financial support for local Presbyterian Manor seniors who have, at no fault of their own, outlived their financial resources.

“This is my first year with the Golfin' For Good Sam tournament. I was so excited to be a part of this long running tradition,” said Gini Myers, Executive Director. “27 years of supporting our Good Samaritan Fund is not something to sneeze at. This tournament allows us to support seniors that currently reside in the Manor to continue to do so.”

84 golfers participated in the fourperson scramble tournament. The winners in the two flights were:

Flight A 1st place: Ryan Williams, Andrew Iverson, Evan Myles, Zach Larson

Flight B 1st place: Kelvin O’Daniel, Michelle O’Daniel, Deb Nittler, Randy Nittler

378 numbered golf balls were dropped as part of Karl and Dorothy Faidley Memorial Golf Ball Drop prior to tee off. David & Pam Messenger ball landed closest to the pin.

“I had a wonderful time meeting new people and how they fit into this wonderful community,” said Myers. “I do have to say, going up in the bucket was a bit scary, but so worth it. With great thanks to our committee members, I look forward to an even greater turnout next year.”

This year’s Golfin’ for Good Sam tournament also would not have been possible without an outpouring of community support.
