Memory care residents reminisce over chicken and noodles

Recently, residents of Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor’s memory care neighborhood came together to create a traditional family meal of chicken and noodles.

During the activity, residents and staff members swapped memories, noodle preparation techniques and plenty of smiles and laughs. Afterward, residents sat down with their families to enjoy their creations.

Staff spotlight: Brandi Barrett

March is National Social Work Month, making it the perfect time to celebrate Brandi Barrett, Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor’s director of life enrichment and social services.

Brandi started at the community as an activities assistant before going on to earn her CNA, activities director certification and social services designee certification as well as a bachelor’s in social work.

In her current role at the community, Brandi gets a special sense of satisfaction from simply knowing that she is having a positive impact on the lives of those around her.

“I enjoy being a resource to the residents and my coworkers,” said Brandi. “Being the one that brings happiness through activities and peace of mind with my social working skills gives me joy each day that I come to work.” u

"Being able to bring families together is one of my favorite parts of working at Presbyterian Manor," says Sarah Griggs, executive director.

Activities like this one are just one of many designed by the community to engage the minds and provide a sense of purpose for its residents. Beyond the activities offered at the community, each resident also enjoys the hominess and security of a newly renovated 431 square-foot apartment complete with a kitchenette, walkin shower and large living and bedroom space.

Community continues tradition of ‘Golfin’ for Good Sam’

Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor’s annual golf tournament, “Golfin’ for Good Sam,” is scheduled to return in May— continuing a long-standing tradition of benefiting seniors in need.

The event will take place Saturday, May 6 at Winfield Country Club (2916 Country Club Road) with registration running from 7:30 – 9 a.m. and tee-off at 9:30 a.m. Proceeds from the tournament benefit PMMA’s Good Samaritan Program which provides financial support for local Presbyterian Manor residents who, through no fault of their own, have outlived their financial resources.

“The Good Samaritan Program is our promise to our residents,” said Sarah Griggs, executive director. “They are more than just people to us – they are parents and grandparents, friends and neighbors.”

A popular attraction at the tournament is the Karl Faidley Golf Ball Drop during which golf balls representing
