Scholarship helpful in advancing career We want to congratulate our director of nursing in Assisted Living for being awarded a scholarship from PMMA’s Employee Scholarship Program. Jessica Lippe has decided to advance her learning and is currently taking classes to obtain her Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing. This is something she’s always wanted to do and has now had time and support to achieve that dream. Jessica has been with CCPM since July 11, 2011, starting out as the restorative nurse, then Jessica Lippe moving up to MDS Coordinator, and has now been the Director of Nursing for the last 7 years. She hopes with her continued education she can learn how to provide even better-quality care for seniors and hopes to be able to advance and help others in the Presbyterian Manor community as well.

New business a reason to throw a pizza party With a new Papa John's in town, we decided to have a pizza party for lunch one summer day. Residents enjoyed having something different for lunch, as well as the chance to find out about a new business in town. u

The Employee Scholarship Program was established in 1978 with an endowed gift from C.E. Koehn. Today, continued support from donors including payroll deduction elections from employees help maintain the scholarship program. Without charitable support this program would not exist. Jessica would like to thank her family, friends and superiors for the encouragement to take this next step. u

Enjoying the dog days of summer The Dog Days of Summer are a little easier to get through when they’re are filled with the excited tongue and tail wagging of real dogs. The Kansas Specialty Dog Service visited Clay Center Presbyterian Manor with a few of their special

friends. In addition to all of us getting the chance to enjoy and pet these fine animals, the dogs enjoy the benefit of additional socialization, before they are put into service for others. KSHS breeds and trains puppies who will eventually be certified for pairing with clients. This program was established more than 30 years ago in partnership with the state of Kansas. The dogs are housed and trained in Washington, Kansas. According to KSHS, to graduate from the program the dog and student must train together on campus or in the client’s home for between one to three weeks. The estimated cost to train and place

each dog is more than $25,000. We feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to visit these very special animals. u

Sure, it’s been a hot summer, and we could use a little rain. But that’s not a reason to let the season pass by without taking every opportunity to catch a little sunshine and a few rays of fun.

including our summer Luau and pool party. Our residents had a blast cooling off by the pool, wearing tropical clothing, enjoying island-

inspired food, and dancing the hula. We love to see our residents having so much fun - and taking time to celebrate the summer season. u

The “Selfie” - those self-portraits taken with cell phone cameras – is now among the most common photographs in the world. Whether its people or places, we love to take our own photos during our greatest experiences. To celebrate the ubiquitous selfie, and to celebrate National Selfie Day on back June 21, we asked our residents to share some of their favorites. The results didn’t disappoint - and we love seeing the big smiles on everyone’s faces. u
