Our 5th Annual Luminaria Lighting Ceremony was a magical evening at our community. We set up a table outside with hot cocoa and cookies for people who wanted to drive through or walk down Luminaria Lane to locate their loved one’s luminary. This event is another way to raise funds for the Good Samaritan program and also honor family and friends during the holidays. By purchasing a luminaria for $25, the name of a loved one is written on a tag placed on each light. The Good Samaritan Program provides funding to help residents who outlive their financial resources through no fault of their own. The evening was cozy and fun. We had Christmas music playing and enjoyed seeing all the beautiful luminaries lighting up the pathway. u
Did you know? You may think making New Year’s Resolution is a modern tradition, but it actually goes back more than 4,000 years to the ancient Babylonians. According to history.com, the Babylonians are said to be the first people to make resolutions, mostly making promises to the gods to pay their debts and return any objects they had borrow. For Christians, the beginning of the new year was an occasion to think about one’s mistakes and resolving to do better in the future. Today, New Year’s resolutions are no longer a religious tradition. About 45% of Americans make resolutions every year but the odds aren’t in their favor. Here’s why: • 22% of resolutions fail after about a week • 40% of resolutions fail after a month • Only 8% of people will achieve their resolution (according to a study by the University of Scranton in 2021) The most common resolutions are about self-improvement: • 23% to live healthier lives • 21% to get happy • 20% to lose weight • 11% to improve their relationships. u

“The resident participation level has grown in just a few short months,” said Wellness Activities Director Courtney Waldner. “Residents are anticipating and eager to exercise in the morning and are getting into a routine of staying active and tracking their progress through our wellness Wednesdays; the goal of these are to track progress and flexibility.” Among the programs that Courtney and Wellness Instructor Tagan Ward have implemented are sessions focused on flexibility, yoga/meditation and cardio. However, the program aimed at improving the balance of residents has been especially popular. “The balance program is great for all residents,” said Tagan. “Those who have participated so far love this one because it helps maintain or increase their balance which can help prevent falls.” Beyond the programs offered as a part of EnerG, the community also offers its healthcare residents opportunities to keep moving
