Thank you for spreading the light By Crystal Stock, marketing director

Thank you to all the sponsors who generously supported our luminary lighting ceremony to memorialize those who have passed, and honor those who are living. We had 82 luminaries sponsored this year! The best part of our annual event was hearing the stories as family members and friends reminisced about those unable to be with us this holiday season. Our family sponsored a luminary in honor of my grandmother, and upon telling my father about the luminary, he shared that he was sure each person memorialized at the event was looking down on us smiling. I also want to give a big thank you to our volunteers and mission committee, staff, residents and family members for helping this event be a success. We are looking forward to hosting this again in 2019! LUMINARY, continued on page 3

Presbyterian Manor honored for achievements Emporia Presbyterian Manor received a certificate of recognition from Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America for reaching goals in fiscal year 2018, covering the months of July 1, 2017, through June 30, 2018. The recognition came through PMMA’s Emerald Awards Program, designed to encourage its 17 locations and 2 hospices to achieve high levels of resident and employee satisfaction, meet financial goals, build philanthropic support for the organization’s mission and meet marketing goals. There are 11 areas measured for the Emerald Awards. To receive an emerald, a community has to meet its goals in all 11 areas. Certificates of recognition were given out to communities that reached their goals in one or more category. Emporia was recognized for achieving a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and meeting safety goals. “This recognition is a visible sign of Emporia Presbyterian Manor’s commitment to the mission of PMMA of providing quality senior services guided by Christian values,” said Bruce Shogren, chief executive officer for PMMA.
