Commun ty Matters Emporia Presbyterian Manor
November 2016
Taking time to give our thanks We’re looking forward to our traditional Thanksgiving meal. On Thursday, Nov. 24, we will serve dinner as a buffet rather than restaurant style, as we usually serve in our dining rooms. We’ll have turkey, stuffing, cranberry salad, green bean casserole, dessert, and possibly a few other favorites. Last year, we welcomed many of our residents’ family members as our guests, and we hope to see even more this year.We encourage everyone to invite loved ones to join us for this day for gratitude and blessings! Executive Director Susan Siepelmeier has celebrated Thanksgiving at Presbyterian Manor for 29 years, and every year she’s impressed by the work the staff puts in to make it a special event. Activities Director Mark Meador goes above and beyond to ensure residents are entertained, engaged and supported through various activities.
Engaging minds, supporting memory Emporia Presbyterian Manor proudly serves the community with the only memory care unit in the area. And all of our residents benefit from a full roster of stimulating activities for complete mind-and-body wellness. Mark Meador, activities director, fills our calendars with exercise classes, social get-togethers, worship services, and more every week. We enjoy ice cream socials, birthday parties, and Taste of Home, which serves up special treats for our residents. Every month, Flint Hills Music partners with us to provide music therapy to our residents in all levels of living, including independent living, assisted living, health care and memory care. And Presbyterian Manor also offers a variety of games, activities, arts and crafts that engage the mind. “We do a lot of brain stimulation to keep residents using their minds as much as possible,” Mark said. “The staff truly pulls together to make this a memorable and happy holiday,” Siepelmeier said. “Each year they make sure the residents feel at home in our community and comforted by the fact that they have loving, caring people around them.”
Mark and his staff work hard each month to ensure residents’ minds and bodies are busy. It’s just one way we live out our mission to provide quality senior services guided by Christian values.
