COMING UP IN COMMUNITY MATTERS:
Everyone has a story to tell
Staying in touch with your children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren often means getting used to using some new technologies. How do you use technology to keep up with your family? How has technology made life easier? How has technology kept you close to family and friends who live far away?
If you’ve got a story to share about how you’re using technology, contact Ginger Nance and your story could be featured in an upcoming edition of Community Matters.

Find a treasure at Presbyterian Village annual auction
Fort Scott Presbyterian Village’s annual Good Samaritan Dinner and Auction will be May 11 to benefit Presbyterian Village residents who have outlived their financial resources. Join in the great treasure hunt during the live auction, or purchase a chance to win treasure in the 50-50 cash drawing. The more tickets sold, the bigger the cash pay out treasure will be. The auction will begin at 5 p.m.
A dinner from Chicken Annie’s will be served from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 per meal in advance; $9 per meal at the door. Carryout is available. Be sure to get your tickets early!
Volunteers make the Good Samaritan Dinner and Auction possible, along with donations of gift certificates, furniture and other items from local businesses and community members. Businesses or individuals with items to donate for the auction should contact Executive Director Ginger Nance at 620-223-5550. The Good Samaritan Program depends solely on donations from friends and supporters to assist residents who have outlived their financial resources through no fault of their own. They need your help.
“This event is truly a blessing to those in need, and so is everyone who participates,” Nance said. “We are so grateful for those who support this event each year. We set a fundraising goal of $25,000 this year to help those seniors in need.” For more information about Fort Scott Presbyterian Village, 2401 S. Antique Roadshow puts memories and history on display
Last month, Fort Scott Presbyterian Village hosted an Antique Roadshow to give residents an opportunity to share memories and relics with others. It was a great success! With everything from a Stratavara to a set of spoons, it was interesting to hear the historical significance and special memories of all the different items. Kale Roberts shares a Civil War oil lamp from his wife's family that is from the 1800's.
Auctioneer and antique enthusiast Bill Nance talks to Jane Adams about her owl piece of Shawnee pottery that is a candlestick holder with a built in drip bowl. This would've been perfect for using around a dark house in the early 1900's.
Clara Schwartz shows her cut glass bowl that was purchased in France while on vacation by her stepmother in the 1930's.
Glen Smith from Uniontown, KS with auctioneer Bill Nance showing his Gene Autry cap gun that he played with as a young boy. What an awesome piece!
