It is amazing to realize that 21 years have passed since Fort Scott Presbyterian Village opened in 1994. What a wonderful impact it has had on Fort Scott and Bourbon County, as well as the quality of life for seniors. Presbyterian Village has been home to an estimated 400 individuals during the past nearly quarter century. One of the earliest purchases in the life of Presbyterian Village was a 1994 Plymouth minivan. This vehicle has been in service for 21 years and has traveled thousands of miles. Today with frequent repairs, it continues to safely serve the residents. However, we know that this vehicle will need to be retired and replaced.
The minivan is used to transport residents to cultural and educational events, shopping excursions, doctor appointments and the hospital. It also is used to pick up supplies for Presbyterian Village and to provide inhome care to seniors within city limits in their homes. This van makes more than 3,600 trips per year to various Fort Scott locations, as well as the surrounding areas. Each week more than 75 transportation service trips are made to serve our Carol George gets a lift from Mandy Lucas, C.N.A., in the tried seniors. and true Plymouth minivan Presbyterian Village has owned for

21 years. It’s now time to retire this vehicle and purchase a new one for many more years of service.

Sending ‘Angels’ to the Good Samaritan Program
Special angels will soon be adorning Christmas trees and holiday displays at every Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America (PMMA) senior living community. The “angels” are paper ornaments that will arrive throughout the holiday season along with gifts to the annual Christmas Angel Appeal, which raises funds for the Good Samaritan Program for Benevolent Care. Donors who make gifts are asked to return paper Angel ornaments along with their gifts. The ornaments pay tribute to donors’ family members or friends and are displayed at PMMA communities designated by the donors.
During the past two years, donors to the angel appeals have given more than $90,000 to the Good Samaritan Program. The program assists PMMA residents who have out-lived their financial resources through no fault of their own. Since PMMA began 66 years ago, no residents have been asked to leave because they exhausted their financial resources.
If you would like to participate in the Angel Appeal, please email Development@pmma.org or call 800-336-8511.

MILITARY PEN PALS: Letter-writing may no longer be the standard form of communication, but there’s still nothing like receiving mail when you’re stationed many miles from home. We will write letters to soldiers on Nov. 18 to express our appreciation for their commitment to our country.
VETERANS LUNCH: Here at Presbyterian Village, we'd like to thank the men and women who've served our country, and invite all those in Bourbon County to join us for a delicious lunch on Nov. 4 as our way of saying thanks. Please RSVP by Nov. 2 if you plan to attend by calling 620-223-5550.
