Fort Scott Presbyterian Village artists among Art is Ageless® masterpiece level winners Three winning artists in Fort Scott Presbyterian Village’s annual Art is Ageless® juried competition will be featured in the 2020 Art is Ageless calendar produced by PMMA (Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America). “Carpenters Bluff Bridge,” a photograph by Paul Milks, “Church on the Mountain Side,” a painting by Glenda Stevicks, and “Nature,” a sculpture/3D entry by Tony Fornelli, will appear in the calendar when it is released this fall. “Bright Journey,” a fiber arts entry by Carolyn Munsell, will be featured on the new pull-out postcards included in the 2020 calendar. In addition, “His Name is Jesus,” a needlework by Charlotte Kite, will be featured on the Art is Ageless greeting cards. Works by local winners are automatically entered into a masterpiece level competition with winning art from 16 other PMMA communities. More than 190 entries were received for this year’s masterpiece competition. The winners are featured in the Art is Ageless calendar with pull-out postcards and greeting cards. Art is Ageless, open exclusively to people age 65 and older, is a copyrighted program of PMMA. For the competition, works must have been completed in the past five years. Art is Ageless®– continued from page 1 residents and other area seniors to express their creativity through its annual competition, as well as art classes, musical and dramatic events, educational opportunities and current events discussions throughout the year. Started in 1980, Art is Ageless is an extension of PMMA’s wellness programs, which focus on mental, physical, social and spiritual health. Residents and friends of PMMA’s Art is Ageless program are proving that art, in any form, is an ageless ambition. u

Employee of the Month goes to Barb Scott Barb shares: I was in my early 30’s when I started working as a CNA at Golden Age Lodge (Medicalodge) in December 1975. In 1976, I studied to become a certified medication aide and continued to work there until early 1980.

Needing more income and health insurance, I went to work at the Western Insurance Company full time and Arkhaven Nursing Home every weekend. I worked at Arkhaven for 17 years and the insurance company for 24 years.

I started working at Presbyterian Village in February 1997 and am currently in my 23rd year here. I have been blessed to work with so many special tenants and staff over the past 43+ years. I have made many good friends along the way.

It was very hard for her to give up her home, but it helped to find so many of her lifetime friends and neighbors already living there.

Assisted Living Week at Fort Scott Presbyterian Village highlighted by many fun activities Fort Scott Presbyterian Village will celebrate National Assisted Living Week Sept. 8-14 with a host of fun and meaningful activities. This year’s theme is “A Spark of Creativity,” and activities will be built around that. • On Monday, Sept. 9, a speaker will talk about being created by God: Psalm 139:14, I will praise thee for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. At 3 p.m. that day, staff and residents will work together to create a hand tree, which we will enjoy all week on display. • On Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 3-4 p.m., we will have open karaoke for staff and residents followed by a nacho bar. • Wednesday will bring an ice cream social from 2-4 p.m. recognizing the local fire department, EMS and law enforcement, in remembrance of 9/11. • On Thursday, a car show from 4-6 p.m. will feature live music by Lynn Oliphant, soda, hot dogs and chips. The public is invited to enter the car show. Prizes will be awarded for 1, 2, 3rd place. • On Friday from 11:30 a.m. -1 p.m. staff and residents will enjoy a Hawaiian meal and the luau will run from 2:30-4:30 p.m. u

Amanda Bourassa, real estate broker, will talk about the benefits of rightsizing, preparing your home for sale, how your will or trust can affect the listing and sale of your home, possible tax liabilities and more. This lunch and learn event and is part of Presbyterian Village’s Just Ask lifelong learning series focusing on topics of interest to seniors and their adult children.
