A job worth unretiring for
When most people think of retiring, they certainly don’t think about “unretiring,” but that’s exactly what Bonnie Russell found herself doing.
Fulton Presbyterian Manor on U.S. News and World Report best nursing home list

“I was working at Fulton Presbyterian Manor part time and had been here almost two years. When the HR/office manager position came open, I was asked to fill in during the interim,” said Bonnie. “Then Dawn, the executive director, asked me to consider taking the position full time. So I did!”
Bonnie Russell works full time as our HR/office manager.
Bonnie’s choice to return to full-time work after putting in 27 years working for the state of Missouri wasn’t all that hard.
“I tried to find other pastimes or hobbies, but I guess all I’m good at is working,” said Bonnie. Fortunately, Bonnie really enjoys her new position.
“I enjoy working with people and employees. I’m trying to learn all about the employee benefits so I can answer questions when they have them. I like helping people feel happier in their positions, and helping them want to come to work,” said Bonnie. When she’s not working, Bonnie enjoys spending time with her children, 10 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
“I like to travel, and I enjoy being with other people. I’m a people person. I

do a lot of crafting and jewelry making as well.”
Bonnie has extended her love of crafts to her granddaughters who range in age from 2 to 11. “Every year, I host a tea party for the girls, and we dress up and decorate hats. We’ve made cards, or tags, that you hang on the wall. It’s a lot of fun.” We’re glad Bonnie chose to come out of retirement to spend her time working for Fulton Presbyterian Manor. What an honor! “I enjoy working for Presbyterian Manor. There are a lot of good things and working with the residents is a real pleasure as well.”

Delightful dining When Dining Services Director Chas Cramer came on board in January, he was eager to help create the best dining experience possible for residents. But he knows that goes beyond just preparing delicious food.
“Residents are in the dining room multiple times a day, every day. It’s important to freshen things up sometimes. It gives them something to talk about, and creates a more enjoyable atmosphere,” said Chas. One change Chas recently brought about was creating a mobile salad bar that could be moved to the skilled nursing dining room to give them
the same options as assisted and independent living.
“I told Dawn, the executive director, that I’d like to have a salad bar in both dining rooms. She said sure, as long as you can find something for a reasonable cost. Well, I thought, why not put wheels on the existing salad bar? The two dining rooms serve food at different times, so it was feasible. We also bought matching tables to go beside it for a cleaner, more pleasant look,” said Chas.
In addition to the mobile salad bar, Chas also brought in a clear-door mini fridge to the assisted living dining room, so residents would have more options for food throughout the day.
Chas Cramer joined us as Dining services director in January. Since then he has been improving our eating experiences.
“We serve yogurt parfaits, pudding parfaits, fruit cups, pie slices, cake pieces, and more. We rotate the items every three days, and residents enjoy having more options available at any time,” said Chas. Along with these changes, Chas has overseen upgrades to the skilled nursing dining room, which are still in progress. “When you’re revamping, when they’re constantly seeing something new, it keeps things exciting.”

Fulton is included on the U.S. News and World Report Best Nursing Homes list for the fifth time in six years.
All Medicare- and Medicaid-certified health care centers were evaluated by U.S. News. To be eligible for an overall rating, a center must have received an overall star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in July 2018 and a staffing star rating in either April or July 2018.
