Dodge City Days The Armouraires Quartet returned for their third year headlining the Dodge City Days Southern Gospel Christian Concert. For 17 years, the concert has been a highlight of the annual Dodge City Days celebration. The 55th annual festival’s theme was “150 years: A Tribute to Fort Dodge,” while the concert featured a patriotic theme. The quartet were joined by special guests Peggy Welch on piano and vocalist Christina Haselhorst, whose version of “God Bless America” had everyone on their feet to salute all who have served our country. Proceeds from the concert benefit the Good Samaritan Program at Manor of the Plains, which gives financial support to residents who have outlived their savings. Marketing Director Kurt Lampe said the combined location and music create a perfect atmosphere for the concert. “It just keeps getting better every year,” Lampe said. “I am so grateful for the support from our community for such a great cause.” Look for the Armouraires to return for the next Dodge City Days on Aug. 2, 2016. See page 2 for a photo of the Armouraires Quartet performing at Dodge City Days.

Join us for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s You may have heard that Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. But did you know it’s the only cause of death in the top 10 that can’t be prevented, cured or slowed? Or that while one in three seniors die with dementia, about 200,000 people under the age of 65 have the disease? You can learn more about Alzheimer’s disease and help raise awareness by participating in the Dodge City Walk to End Alzheimer’s in September. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, causing problems with memory, thinking and behavior. Did you also know: • Between 2000 and 2013, deaths attributed to Alzheimer’s increased by 71 percent •

Another American develops the disease every 67 seconds.

The latest figures estimate that 51,000 Kansans have Alzheimer’s.

The Dodge City Walk takes place Sept. 19 at the Sheridan Activity Center, 240 San Jose, where the walk will begin and end. Registration opens at 9 a.m., and the walk begins at 9:30 a.m. While there is no fee to participate, donations are encouraged. Up to 60 percent of the money raised will stay in our area. The annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s events take place in more than 600 cities, raising funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. At the walk, you can learn more about it and the support programs and services offered by the local Alzheimer’s Association chapter. You will also have opportunities to get involved with advocacy initiatives and clinical trial enrollment. For more information about participating in or donating to the Manor of the Plains’ Alzheimer’s walk team, contact Kurt Lampe, marketing director, at klampe@pmma.org or 620-225-1928.
