Executive director no stranger to Presbyterian Manors Manor of the Plains’ new executive director might be new, but he’s no stranger to Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America. Michael Rajewski has been executive director at Sterling Presbyterian Manor since 2007. During those 11 years, Mike has proven to be an effective and creative trailblazer in finding solutions in transportation, services, programs and census, driven by a belief that challenges are nothing more than opportunities. “PMMA is blessed to have one of our own transfer to Manor of the Plains, so that the transition from the current interim executive director to a new executive director would be seamless for both residents and employees,” said Bill Taylor, COO of Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America. “We know that he will provide solid leadership to the Manor of the Plains community.” Mike’s first day was Dec. 31.

Monsignor Moore walks the halls at Manor of the Plains as a physical discipline to complement his spiritual disciplines.

Practicing spiritual and physical wellness Monsignor Brian Moore moved into Manor of the Plains last summer and has continued to move ever since. “I walk for half an hour with a pair of weights, and I have a number of lower back, shoulder exercises, etc. to keep things limbered up. I do these seven days a week,” said Monsignor Moore. Physical wellness is simply part of his daily routine along with spiritual wellness. “Spiritual and wellness goals complement each other. We are both physical and spiritual beings, and we need both physical and spiritual exercise to prepare ourselves for any situation. I take time for physical exercise because the body needs help. And for spiritual exercise, St. Timothy said to Paul, ‘If physical exercise is good, spiritual exercise is even better,’” said Monsignor.

Manor of the Plains honored for achievements Manor of the Plains received a certificate of recognition from Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America for reaching goals in fiscal year 2018, covering the months of July 1, 2017, through June 30, 2018. The recognition came through PMMA’s Emerald Awards Program, designed to encourage its 17 locations and 2 hospices to achieve high levels of resident and employee satisfaction, meet financial goals, build philanthropic support for the organization’s mission and meet marketing goals. There are 11 areas measured for the Emerald Awards.  To receive an emerald, a campus has to meet its goals in all 11 areas. Certificates of recognition were given out to campuses that reached their goals in one or more category. Manor of the Plains, located in Dodge City, Kan., was recognized for meeting skilled nursing resident satisfaction goals.   “This recognition is a visible sign of Manor of the Plains’ commitment to the mission of PMMA of providing quality senior services guided by Christian values,” said Bruce Shogren, chief executive officer for PMMA.

Monsignor Moore is a Catholic priest who was ordained for the diocese in Dodge City. His move to Manor of the Plains was a great fit for him in several ways. “I retired several years ago and was looking for the right place to live in retirement, and this seemed like the best option. It’s a Christian place and supports religious values and people of faith,” said Monsignor.

specific goals—there are things I want to read but it’s more like I try to respond to the situations as they develop rather than come at it with a whole program on my own.” For those of you who are resolving to improve your spiritual or physical wellness in the new year, Monsignor gives this advice: “It’s never too late to start. It’s never too late to keep working.”

While making resolutions is a popular thing to do this time of year, Monsignor Moore prefers to think of his spiritual and physical wellness as on-going goals. “I don’t especially make resolutions. I just continue to try to fit in where I am and keep active in the church, which I do. It’s more like keeping on with that. I don’t have any
