Residents enjoy new fish tank
Courtney Stangle, human resource director and accounting assistant, is celebrating her one-year anniversary of working at Presbyterian Manor and she’s already made a big impact on the residents here through a generous gift.
“My husband, Jeremy, and I are fish people. We had an extra tank and supplies, so we decided to bring it up here for residents to enjoy. There’s a bird cage upstairs, and we wanted something downstairs for residents to enjoy, too. I do the daily upkeep, make sure the filters are good, feed the fish, etc.,” said Courtney. Residents have already given Courtney a great reaction to the tank, and especially like the colorful fish featured.
Meet new activity director Jaclyn Wertz
Jaclyn Wertz began her career at Presbyterian Manor as a CNA in November 2013, but she has recently made the switch to being Activity Director. She’s excited about the change and is looking forward to trying many new ideas with residents as well as continuing favorite traditions.
Prior to working at Presbyterian Manor, she worked at a licensed daycare in Altamont. She also has her own photography business, called In The Moment Photography. Jaclyn got her degree from Labette County High School in 2014, and is continuing her education at Labette Community College.
“Whenever we add a new fish, they just rave about it,” said Courtney. “We have African Cichlids, which are a nice bright freshwater alternative to the more ornate saltwater fish. We have three electric blue, a white, and an orange with black spots. They’re beautiful. We also have an algae eater, a plecostomus, to help us keep the tank clean.”
Courtney and her husband plan on donating one more tank to Presbyterian Manor soon.
The fish tank donated by Courtney Stangle is a big hit on first floor.
No rooms for rent! W. Wayne Mason, Chaplain, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice I wonder what Joseph’s next thought was as he searched for shelter for his pregnant wife. Was his head hung in shame as he cleared a spot in a stable for an impending childbirth?
Months earlier Joseph had agreed to serve as the step-father to Jesus. Being a man of integrity, he was willing to endure the uncertainty of that role. It led him to marriage to Mary – a woman whom he first questioned her morality but then learned of her faithful dedication to God. It led him to relocation – first to Bethlehem,

then to Egypt, and later to Nazareth.
Each time he had to reestablish his business connections, find work and support his family. He didn’t abandon them. He didn’t proclaim, “It’s too difficult,” and seek a different path in life. He stayed true to his promise, and rediscovered his love each day – for his God, for his wife, and for Jesus. This Christmas, let us give thanks for those who have dedicated themselves to loving and providing for us.
We have learned to be people of integrity and people of faith. Now, let us live it out. When times are difficult,
let us follow the example of Joseph and Mary and dig in a little deeper. Let us find the path that God would have us travel and never give up on giving our love and keeping our promises to each other.
Christmas reminds us that God keeps His promises – Jesus is the proof.
Merry Christmas!
PRAYER: Lord, you set before us the model of promise-keeping and abundant love. Your forgiveness shines bright through the gift of Jesus. Help us to walk in your footsteps. Amen.

Special angels will be adorning holiday displays at every Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America (PMMA) senior living community.
The “angels” are ornaments that will arrive throughout the holiday season along with gifts to the annual Christmas Angel Appeal, which raises funds for the Good Samaritan Program for Benevolent Care.
If you would like to participate in the Angel Appeal, please email Development@pmma.org or call 800-336-8511.
Hats off to the Hat Party
Parsons Presbyterian Manor residents enjoyed donning fancy head gear for the monthly social in October.

“This idea originated because we had a bunch of hats in storage that we thought our residents would enjoy. We invited everyone at Parsons Presbyterian Manor to attend. It was a great way to gather all our residents together to have a few laughs! We had two big cookie cakes made that said “Fancy hat party” on them. We served the cookie cakes with punch. The residents enjoyed showing off their fancy hats, taking a few pictures, and visiting with their neighbors. We look forward to continuing the fancy hat party yearly,” said Jaclyn Wertz, activity director.

Contributions to the Good Samaritan Program make it possible for residents to continue to live at their PMMA community when they have exhausted their financial resources through no fault of their own. One in four residents living in Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America’s assisted living and health care neighborhoods are supported in some way through the Good Samaritan Benevolent Care Program.
