Sweet treat during National Ice Cream Month We think our assisted living residents and staff are sure sweet, so we wanted to let them know. As we celebrated National Ice Cream Month we treated everyone to something sweet – ice cream sundaes.

“I started as a CNA (certified nurse aide), and then I began doing RA (restorative aide) work part time, which allowed me to do more one on one with the residents. I really enjoyed having time set aside for those who were on the restorative program, so when I was told the activities job was available, I was excited to move to another department where I would be able to do more with the residents and find ways to make their life more enjoyable at Presbyterian Manor,” said Jasmine.

Jasmine Edie has switched roles at Parsons Presbyterian Manor and is now our activity director.

Jasmine’s favorite part of activities is finding different activities for the residents to do, finding an activity that triggers a story from their past that they love to tell and seeing them laugh while playing a card game when they are winning or losing. “I love being able to make the residents as happy as possible and feel welcomed and at home here at Presbyterian Manor. I have three kids, so outside of work I am a busy mom. All of my friends have kids around the same age, so we are always together planning something such as a cookout, camping, swimming and DIY crafts to all do together. However, when it becomes winter, I enjoy staying inside and finding as many different crafts and things to bake as possible. My oldest loves to help in the kitchen, so we always bake more treats than we can eat. For my alone time, I enjoy a good read and I love to find a good show to binge watch.” We’re glad Jasmine has continued her role here and are looking forward to all the activity ideas she comes up with.

Parsons Presbyterian Manor earns zero-deficiency rating Parsons Presbyterian Manor earned a zero-deficiency survey from the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services following its annual inspection June 5, 2018.

“We are very proud of our staff’s achievement,” said Maegen Pegues, executive director. “It is their commitment to our mission and residents that led to a deficiency-free community. By being blessed with a great team that is dedicated to Parsons Presbyterian Manor each other, we’ve created a foundation that enables us to provide quality services for seniors every day.”

Each year, senior living communities are surveyed by their licensing agency for compliance of regulations established by the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services. These regulations, which number in the

hundreds, are designed to ensure a standard of care is met. By meeting this standard, senior living communities are able to renew their licenses and continue to provide care. There are 17 major areas assessed, which include quality of care and physical environment. The surveyors look at every aspect of a resident’s life, from dietary choices, to dental care; from frequency of physician visits to

ease of access to their mail.

“Being recognized as a deficiency-free community offers evidence of the staff’s compassion and desire to make Parsons Presbyterian Manor a place our residents are honored to call home,” Pegues said. The achievement by Parsons Presbyterian Manor places the senior living community in the top tier of survey performances in Kansas.
