New column, familiar face

Sterling Presbyterian Manor Chaplain Ken Connor isn’t new to our community, but he’s hoping a new monthly newsletter column called “Pastor Ken Connor’s Corner” will help bring new inspiration for all who read it. “I want to provide a message of inspiration and encouragement every month,” said Pastor Connor. Pastor Connor was born in Kansas, but raised in Colorado. He’s spent most of his adult life back here in Kansas though, and was a teacher for many years in Wichita before going into ministry full time. He serves as pastor at the Sterling Assembly of God, and was surprised many years ago when he was asked to be chaplain at the Sterling Presbyterian Manor. “I said, but I’m not Presbyterian! They said it didn’t matter, and it’s worked out very well.” His wife Marlene, a retired systems analyst, is a part of our community, too, as a member of the advisory board. They have two sons, and three granddaughters with one more on the way in September. Pastor Connor holds a Bible Study every Tuesday here, and also schedules the Friday chapel service which rotates between several pastors in Sterling. “My favorite part about this ministry is being able to help families that are going through the grieving process, and being there to help walk them through that. It’s an honor to comfort them, and I also have done numerous funerals for folks here, simply because they had no church affiliation at all,” said Pastor Connor. “I also enjoy playing dominoes after Bible study on Tuesdays, and going around to visit with the residents.” Stay tuned for “Pastor Ken Connor’s Corner” in the next Community Matters Newsletter for an inspiring message from God’s Word.
