Make a plan, take a PATH®

Lynette Wynthnow spent time in PATH® at Sterling Presbyterian Manor after her knee replacement surgery.

For many, the search for a rehabilitation service must be made quickly after an unexpected injury or illness. But for others, like Lynette Wythnow, it’s a decision made long in advance of a planned procedure.

“I had a total knee replacement on my right knee. It was planned, and I knew I’d need somewhere to recover. I don’t have use of my left arm after a bout with polio as a child and I had my right shoulder replaced last year, and haven’t regained complete mobility. I knew I couldn't recover at home,” said Lynette. “I’d worked with Cindy Moore in the past when we were both para-educators, so I was familiar with Presbyterian Manor.”

After Lynette’s surgery, she came to stay in our Post Acute to Home, or PATH®, program. Here, she was able to regain mobility with the help of a dedicated therapy staff.

To benefit and meet the physical needs of our residents, Sterling Presbyterian Manor is happy to announce that we once again have a Restorative Aide on staff. Jessica Phillips started in August and is looking forward to helping residents improve their health.

“I’ll be either meeting one-onone with residents or in a group setting, working on range of motion, flexibility, strength in standing, etc. I’m also working to start an exercise class back up, said Jessica. “And when residents are finished with physical therapy, or don’t qualify for Jessica Phillips joins the staff as a restorative aide. physical therapy, I can help them regain abilities or continue working on things they were doing before. Jessica has been in the senior living field for more than 10 years, and she looks forward to spending more one-on-one time with residents and watching them improve.

“It’s even little things, like those who want to walk to dinner, but there’s not enough staff to walk them there. If we can help them do it on their own, they have a better quality of life.

When Jessica’s not helping residents at Sterling Presbyterian Manor, she’s spending time with her family.

“I had surgery at the Great Bend hospital. Sterling Presbyterian Manor came over and picked me up and even took me back to a doctor’s appointment back in Great Bend. They even brought me home to Lyons at the end. It was important to me that a rehabilitation center had ‘outside’ therapy. Not just someone on staff who sort of did therapy,” said Lynette. “The Aegis company is excellent. The 4 COMMUNITY MATTERS SEPTEMBER 2017

therapy was excellent. I had physical therapy on my knee and occupational therapy on my shoulder. When I was dismissed and had outpatient therapy, I only had to do 12 sessions. I’m in really good shape!” Lynette left our PATH program in such good shape that she was able to resume water aerobics.

“I’ve tried to spread the word and tell several people to use Sterling Presbyterian Manor’s PATH program

for their recovery. I was there temporarily, but the staff was all interested in my progress. They were very understanding about some certain needs I had and sensitive to everyone’s needs,” said Lynette. “I had a family member with a bad experience at another community, and the in-house therapy person said, ‘Oh you’re too tired for therapy today.’ So they didn’t get the help they needed. It’s not like that here. They really want you to improve.”
