New executive director

Courtney Wolfe returns home Alice Kalb, a widow who requested a home for seniors, helps break ground in Newton, Kan., at the site that would become the first Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America community.

Founder’s Day celebrates 69 years of senior service Employees of Wichita Presbyterian Manor will observe the founding of Presbyterian Manors of MidAmerica this month, as the company celebrates 69 years of providing quality senior services guided by Christian values. The company has locations in Kansas and Missouri. Each Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America campus will have its own celebration with residents and employees during April, acknowledging the importance each play in making life at Wichita Presbyterian Manor “the way you want to live.” “Many of our employees view what they do as a calling, not just a job,” said Bruce Shogren, president and CEO. “Our dedicated employees FOUNDER’S, continued on page 2

Wichita Presbyterian Manor experienced a homecoming when Courtney Wolfe joined the team as executive director in February. “I’ve found that sometimes the greatest opportunities in life come to us when we least expect them, and that has certainly been the case with my return to Presbyterian Manor,” said Courtney. Courtney said she is thrilled to return to the community where she started her senior living career in 2002.

“I look forward to getting to know the residents and employees. Wichita Presbyterian Manor has a long-standing tradition of excellence in serving seniors, and the newly expanded campus and service offerings only exemplify those opportunities. What a tremendous honor to return to such an amazing campus,” she said. Courtney said she’s always held a special appreciation for Wichita Presbyterian Manor and, in many ways, the opportunity to return to the community also feels like coming home. While pursuing her degree in pediatric nursing at Wichita State University, Courtney was the activity coordinator at Wichita Presbyterian Manor from 2002 to 2006. “After a short time working here, I realized that I had a passion to serve seniors,” Courtney said. “I quickly grew to realize that I was called to serve in health care—just not in a nursing role. As a result, I changed my degree RETURN, continued on page 2

path to health care administration. I know that, had it not been for that opportunity to serve as the activity coordinator here, I likely wouldn’t be in the position I am today.”

Importantly, I also understand the profound impact we can make each day in the lives of those we serve,” said Courtney.

Courtney’s career path has included professional roles at several area retirement communities.

In her spare time, Courtney enjoys spending time with Jason, her husband of 11 years, and their active and outgoing six-year-old daughter, Abigail.

“The experiences I’ve gained in each of the previous positions I’ve held have given me great perspective. I better understand the challenges our employees face in their positions.

When she’s not working or shopping (she’s a self-professed shopaholic), you’ll find Courtney on a tropical beach with her family, or volunteering at Abigail’s school.

make it possible for us to sustain PMMA’s mission, which directly impacts the wonderful care our 2,400 residents receive every day.” Wichita Presbyterian Manor will observe Founder’s Day on April 19 with a gathering of staff and residents. Presbyterian Manors of MidAmerica’s roots go back to 1947. Alice Kalb, a widow

from central Kansas, appealed to a Presbyterian Church organization to establish a home for seniors. Her vision became the first Presbyterian Manor community in Newton, Kan., in 1949, and inspired others to do even more. Today, PMMA remains true to the spirit of Alice’s vision, providing quality senior services guided by Christian values.
