PMMA rebalances portfolio with sale of Kansas City campus In the more than six and a half decades Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America has provided care for and advocated for the aging in Kansas and Missouri, the senior retirement landscape has changed dramatically. PMMA remains committed to our mission of providing quality senior services guided by Christian values and to meeting the ever changing needs of today’s seniors. Seniors want a full continuum of care, with an emphasis on active living and wellness. Out of this demand, the Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) model was born. This model provides for a large independent living level with smaller levels of assisted living and health care/ skilled nursing. During the past two decades, PMMA has been slowly moving its system toward the CCRC model. Even though we have made significant strides, our system still remains imbalanced in the world of CCRC’s. Honor flight Several times a year, thousands of veterans all over the country travel to Washington, D.C., to visit national memorials to the wars in which they served. These Honor Flights are provided at no cost to the veterans, thanks to generous donations of those who want to honor their service. This summer, our residents participated in the traditional “Welcome Home” ceremony for veterans returning from an Honor Flight at Eisenhower National Airport. What a touching and inspiring experience! After every flight, the public is invited to applaud and welcome the veterans returning from the capital. We brought our flags and “welcome home” signs to make it as festive as possible.Veterans, in or out of uniform, also are asked to fall in and stand to render the military hand salute as their fellow Kansas veterans pass in review. If you didn’t get the chance to honor the veterans in June, don’t worry. Honor Flights No. 40-44 will depart from Wichita in September, October and November, and a welcome is planned for each return. For exact dates and more information about the Honor Flight program, visit kansashonorflight.org. See more photos on page 2

Upon a careful analysis of our properties, it became clear that the Kansas City campus, with its predominantly health care focused model, could not easily convert to a CCRC campus. After much analysis, deliberation and discussion with the senior leadership team, the Board of Trustees approved the sale of KCPM.

While saddened by the idea of selling KCPM, PMMA was and is confident that we are leaving our residents in good hands. The sale of Kansas City Presbyterian Manor to Riverbend, an operating subsidiary of The Ensign Group Inc., was completed and the campus transferred, on July 1.

Celebrating June brides at Presbyterian Manor Health care activities held a second annual Wedding to Remember activity on June 24 for weddings past and present. Six couples here at Presbyterian Manor have been married more than 60 years, and we also had an anniversary celebration in July. For the June Weddings to Remember, the room was decorated like a wedding reception, complete with cake and punch. Residents and staff showed off their wedding photos, and Life Enrichment staff member Meggin Nicolas displayed her wedding dress.
