You can’t overestimate the importance of good oral health. Gum disease has been shown to be a major risk factor for the development of serious health issues including heart disease and diabetes. We are taught as kids that brushing is important, but which brush is best? Our main options are manual or electric; and the hardness of the bristles. First o , always choose a soft bristled brush- the plaque you are trying to remove is soft, and medium or hard bristles will only cause more damage over time. As to electric or manual, most of this is a personal choice but some factors do come into play. If a person tends to brush too hard, an electric toothbrush is a good option. Also, people with limited mobility such as arthritis would nd an electric one helpful. Nearly 30 studies comparing electric to manual brushes found powered brushes whose bristles go round and back and forth to be more e ective than a manual brush. (Web MD). Whether you choose manual or electric, nd the time to brush twice a day for 2 minutes, remembering to brush the gumline: this is where most problems start.
