15th Anniversary: A New Era – Moving Toward Online Education Dr. Agnes Ip, PhD, LMFT 2018 will be a year full of thanksgiving and growth for Presence. As we approach the time to celebrate our 15th year anniversary, we continue to carry out our mission to serve our community in the areas of family, faith, life, and career. To share the needs of this era and our ministry development with you, we will be hosting two thanksgiving fundraisers, one in Northern California on February 25 at the Milpitas Community Center and another one in Southern California on September 16 at the Quiet Cannon Montebello. We cordially invite you to mark your calendars and join us for a night of sharing our joy and future vision. In recent years, I have had opportunities to serve in several cities and have encountered many families in crisis. These families experience tremendous stress, such as unresolved conflict and cultural differences between parents and children, different forms of broken relationships, depression and suicidal thoughts among youth, and mental illnesses. Although we seek to provide training that is practical and relevant to people’s needs, I have found that there are many people in great need. Over the years, we have received many training and service requests from brothers and sisters in different parts of the world. In an effort to meet their needs, we have launched the “Presence Life Planning Curriculum” – a series of educational courses with diverse training materials – for the purpose of equipping individuals in their personal growth (please see our 2017 Fall Newsletter for detailed description). Presence will also launch online education classes, which may include the “Presence Life Planning Curriculum,” to provide people with learning opportunities regardless of their geographical locations.
Presence has spent many years studying how to enhance intergenerational relationships. We have hosted multiple intergenerational mentorship training workshops in Southern California, including an interview with Gil Tam’s family, youth pastors, and American-born youth. We have received positive feedback from attendees. Unfortunately, due to the lack of time and manpower, we are unable to repeat these workshops. Therefore, with the goal of benefiting more people, we will incorporate these training materials and interviews into our first online education course: “Healthy Dialogue among Parents, Youth and Youth Workers.” We believe our youth will be greatly blessed as parents and youth workers commit to working together. We have designed our course with the focus on the interactions among these parties. “Healthy Dialogue” is divided into four classes: 1. Healthy Dialogue with Parents and Youth (Tips for Parents) (Available on 2/13) 2. Healthy Dialogue with Parents and Youth (Tips for Youth) (Available on 2/13) 3. Healthy Dialogue with Parents and Youth Workers (Tips for Parents) (Available on 4/17) 4. Healthy Dialogue with Parents and Youth Workers (Tips for Youth Workers) (Available on 4/17) This online course explores the different causes of communication problems among parents, youth, and youth workers (including cultural and generational gaps and differences in stages of life), encourages parents to guide their children via the intergenerational mentorship model, and
provides learners with communication skills and examples of healthy dialogue. The aim is to help all parties learn empathy, respect, and negotiation skills based on the example of Jesus Christ. The course also includes short video clips produced by Presence along with discussion questions for individual or group study. In December 2017, I presented some of the “Healthy Dialogue” materials in a workshop at the Chinese Mission Convention West Conference, and the response was very positive. This online course will be initially conducted in English, and we will roll out the Chinese course in the future. To register for this course, please visit PresenceQuoteint.org. As Presence enters our 15th Anniversary, we need more ministry partners to join our team to further develop online education. We need help with filming, making cartoons, conducting interviews, and so on to make our courses more concrete, authentic, and influential. RE:NEW Faith Seminar Finding Your Faith & Purpose Wicy Zhang On November 3rd, 2017, RE:NEW hosted its annual Faith Seminar event in partnership with Chinese Evangelical Free Church. Youths from 11 different churches attended the seminar that evening with cheerful attitude. We chose Faith and Purpose as our topic this year because youth today are trying to figure out their purpose and calling in life. With endless possibilities and opportunities, how can today’s youth integrate faith as the foundation of their lives? This seminar aimed to explore the theme of understanding one’s true identity in Christ and finding his or her God-given purpose. We invited Pastor Jim Walden as our guest speaker for the evening. Through Pastor Jim’s life stories, we were able to hear how he personally responded to God's call to faith and how he proceeded to live and relate to his neighbors. The youth are the next generation of leaders in the world. We believe that, right now, God is working in them to cultivate spiritual growth and maturity to reach the world for Christ - even as simple as talking to their neighbors or peers at school. Pastor Jim effectively empowered the youth who attended Faith Seminar, by reminding them that they are in fact called by God no matter what stage in life they are in.
The three main points of his sharing were that God provides, God calls, and God desires that people be reached with His gospel message (to know Him). God allows us to go through different experiences in order to challenge us to reach out to the people around us.
God calls us to share the love of Christ to others who have not yet heard about Jesus.
Just as Moses asked God to teach him His ways so that he may know God and continue to find favor with Him (Exodus 33), we, as children of God, should ask God to teach us His ways so that we may know God.
Many of the youth were challenged by Pastor Jim’s message and responded to the altar call after his message. We thank God for a fruitful evening of fellowship and a meaningful message on faith and purpose. We look forward to seeing you all at our next Faith Seminar! Presence Parents Prayer Ministry Report Lily Ma Back at the end of 2016, a coworker and I both had the desire to pray for our next generation. As times change rapidly, our children need to bear tremendous pressure of growing up and facing increasing cultural and religious challenges. As parents, we feel the urgency to lift up our hands and intercede for them. With the support of Dr. Agnes Ip, we started the Presence Parents Prayer Ministry in March 2017; we held 10 monthly prayer meetings and concluded the program later that year in December. The details of each monthly prayer meeting are available in a blog hosted on the Presence Quotient® website as well as on our social media. Our goal is to encourage believers to pray at home or in their church small groups. Therefore, the Presence Parent Prayer Ministry was more than just monthly prayer meetings; it was intended as a prayer movement to mobilize parents who love their children to experience the power of God and lift up the next generation through prayer. We are thankful that, through praying together, God has assembled parent prayer warriors and we have made new friends, among whom two individuals have joined Presence as part-time coworkers. Through praying together, we were able to lay our thanksgiving, joys, sadness and worries at the feet of God. God has drawn us closer to each other as we share genuinely about our

love for our children. Here are some highlights shared by some of the parents who have joined this prayer ministry:
“Through the prayers and sharing, my spirit was renewed and I deeply felt the love of our Heavenly Father as I raise my children.” “I really enjoyed the prayer meetings. They helped me focus on praying for the needs of myself and my children. I learned a lot through the hymns and sharing. It was a very good life lesson.” “I treasured every moment to join other parents to keep watching for our children. Through giving thanks for our children, I came to appreciate more the beauty in their lives.” “I was touched and encouraged every time. I used to just pray for my family and my son. I am grateful that in the meeting I was reminded to pray more for myself as a mother.”

2017 Presence Blog Ministry Highlights Maggie Hui
In the past few years, Presence began following the trend of technology by starting a blog ministry to provide articles online. We have two purposes in mind: 1) to better fit the needs of people who are spending more time nowadays reading from electronic and mobile devices and 2) to reach more people regardless of their geographical location. In 2017, God has greatly blessed Presence’s Blog Ministry. The “Life Stages” seminar series and “Parents’ Prayer” series were started for Presence Quotient® and Presence Hong Kong. In the monthly “Life Stages” series, we offered tips and encouragement to people in different stages of life and covered a variety of topics such as transitioning into parenthood, motherhood, fatherhood, empty nest, and parenting young adults. The 10-month “Parents’ Prayer” series was part of our Parent Prayer Ministry, and we provided prayer guidelines in ten specific areas for parents to pray for themselves and their children. God has also provided a couple of new blog writers with youth voices and perspectives for RE:NEW! By strategically pairing our blog content with that of social media, and reviewing website analytics, we are excited to announce that our blog articles have reached people near and far. May our readers’ lives be encouraged and blessed! In 2018, in addition to continuing the “Life Stages” series, we will launch a brand new “Presence Life Planning Prayer” series that goes hand-in-hand with our Presence Life Planning Curriculum, which will cover the following topics: setting life priorities, managing physical and emotional health, cherishing relationships, discovering one’s uniqueness and life goals, accepting and overcoming challenges in life, examining societal standards regarding success and failure, resisting temptations, and rejecting unethical practices. We also plan to conduct more interviews with people across different professions as we continue to develop our Presence Possibilities initiative. These interviews will utilize interactive media, including online blogs, videos, and audio tracks to encourage people to learn about careers in their medium of choice. May our readers’ potential be expanded! I pray God will bring more writers and editors for our Blog Ministry, and I invite you to share your creativity with us and others. 近期我們為了鑽研如何有效建立 兩代關係，多次在南加州主辦跨代生 命導師培訓，訪問了譚氏家庭、多位 年輕牧者和在美國出生的青年人，觸 動了不少弟兄姊妹的心靈迴響，可惜 因時間和人力有限，無法不斷在不同 地區重辦聚會，所以我們打算將被訪 者的心 聲 ， 注 入 第 一 個 網 上 課 程 系 列 --「父母、青少年和青少年工作 者之間的健康對話」，使更多人獲益 。我們深信父母和青少年導師若能携 手合作，是年輕人莫大的福氣，因此 課程特別關注他們之間的互動，按以 下四部份推出:

父母心禱告 事工簡報 馬王藹麗
記得2016年的年底，我和另一位同工不
約而同想到要為下一代禱告。時代急速
得到更新；也藉著養育孩子的過程深
轉變，我們孩子要面對成長的壓力、在文
深感到父神的愛。
化信仰上遇到的挑戰，好像排山倒海般而
至，作父母的很感受到要舉起雙手為他
要禱告，從詩歌和分享中都有得著，
從2017年三月到十二月共進行了十次禱

透過禱告和大家的分享，我感覺靈裡
每次禱告會都有很多感動和鼓勵。過 去一直都只是為家人和兒子禱告，感
謝神在父母心禱告會中，提醒我要多 為自己作為母親禱告。

2017活現部落 格事工點滴 許美基
兩三年前，活現開展了部落格事工，為我們的讀
者提供網上的文章。 部落格事工有兩個目的: 一) 更能配合現代人在電子產品和移動設備上閲讀的 習慣，二) 多人。
能不受時間地域限制，接觸和服事到更
在2017年，神大大祝福了活現部落格事工。我們
於活現商數和活現香港的部落格發展了兩個系列
的文章。在每月刊登的「生命季節」系列中，由處於 人生不同階段的作者分享他們的體會、心得和生命 反省，内容包括：初爲人父母的適應、父母親的心聲
、空巢期、與成年子女的相處等；另一個是「父母心 禱告」系列，也是活現父母心禱告事工的延伸。我們
為父母們提供了十個主題的禱告指引，幫助他們為
自己和孩子們祈禱和守望。此外，神也爲「新心行動
」的部落格注入了新血、帶來了更多年輕人的聲音。 我們的部落格文章亦透過社交平台得以更廣泛地
傳播。當查看網站的分析數據時，很高興的發現我 們的文章接觸到許多不論遠近的人，但願 都能成為讀者生命中的鼓勵。

在2018年，我們除了延續「生命季節」系列外，也
會配合新辦的「活現生命規劃課程」，開始一個「活
現生命規劃禱告」系列，為讀者們提供下列主題的 禱告指引：確定人生優先序、生活和情緒的管理、珍
惜關係、尋找個人獨特處和人生目標、接納和跨越 生命的限制和困難、檢視社會對成敗的標準、抵禦 誘惑和拒
選擇不良的途徑。我們亦會繼續發展「
活現潛能」的部落格，並計劃訪問不同行業的人，以 多媒體的方式 --文字、視頻、音頻 -- 來幫助人認識 不同的工作、拓展潛能。
