Join us as we share our knowledge and enthusiasm around the ancient game of chess. Following the basics of piece movement, algebraic notation, material value of the pieces, our lessons will cover the principles/rules of the opening game, tactics/strategic planning of the middle game, and common endgame scenarios. We’ll analyze the games of the ‘greats’ as well as analyze the games of our future Chessmasters. This will be done in a supportive environment while stressing patience, sportsmanship, and respect for both the game and the members of our club. Academic Chess has been teaching chess to youth and adults for 25+ years and has started chess clubs in over 60 schools in the City. We combine our love/knowledge of the game with animated/high energy lessons that instill that same love in our students. Former students include the youngest master in U.S history, a national 5th grade champion, and numerous USCF ranked tournament players. 2 things that we are most proud of; our students discover joy around the game of chess and many over the years have returned to us as adults to teach and to spread that joy.
