ow much difference do they make? It wasn’t all that long ago that choosing a new driver was a relatively straight-forward process. But things have come a long way in recent years. Callaway Brand Director Nick McInnally is quick to champion the invaluable role of custom-fitting.“From our years of research we continue to find that many golfers do not have enough loft on their driver, which can result in not enough spin and the ball dropping out of its flight. Golfers will be surprised how much distance can be achieved by being professionally fitted for the right launch angle and spin rate relative to their ball speed.” Nick is of the belief that golfers who do get fitted properly will see huge improvements “Golfers should be professionally fitted to optimise the most important club in the bag,” he goes on to say. For any player looking to purchase a new driver we would always recommend that they be fitted for the product. If we look at the new Callaway Big Bertha drivers, there are a number of variables that must be optimised for the

Custom Fitted Callaway BIG Bertha Drivers player in order to deliver maximum performance.Big Bertha Total Performance Driver, is suitable for all handicappers. The driver also incorporates four key new technology features - adjustable premier weighting, a hyperspeed face, an advanced adjustable hosel and forged composite materials.

the new Bertha means that both loft and lie angle can be independently adjusted. Four different loft options are available along with two different lies (‘D’ for draw and ‘N’ for neutral). This means that there are eight different combinations which help players get the right balance for their swing.

The Adjustable Premier Weighting system allows players to place an eightgram sliding weight at any point across a five-inch track to help control shot shape and dispersion. This technology allows players to retain both ball speed and accuracy from off-centre impacts, and is therefore a critical element of the total performance driver. When the initial Big Bertha driver was launched, it was one of the first titanium drivers to hit the market and represented a major step forward in equipment technology. The lightweight composite material on the new model means that it weighs under 200g and is therefore very easy to swing. It will also feature a light, robust face which helps to promote faster ball speed on impact. The adjustable hosel system on

Big Bertha Alpha features two features which set it apart from other clubs on the market: An adjustable gravity system which allows players to adjust spin independently of launch angle - breaking this relationship for the first time in a driver. The Gravity Core sits in the club head and can be inserted in two different ways to create lower and higher levels of spin. The Alpha also enables players to make adjustments to the weight balance across the club head - meaning that both overall weight and shot shape bias can be adjusted. Four interchangeable weights - 1g, 3g, 5g and 7g - come with the club.
