Venus & Braun Beauty Therapist Nathalie Eleni says… Is epilating painful? How can you minimise epilation pain?
T
he imagined pain hurdle can put people off from trying epilating, but they are often surprised by the low level of pain they actually experience. The pain diminishes with use. The second time you use your epilator, only 30% of hairs have regrown so pain is diminished by two thirds. Braun have also incorporated an integrated massage system in the head of the epilator, which masks the pain by stimulating other nerves and leads to surprisingly low discomfort. My top tip to beat the pain is to go easy and relax. Also try epilating under water with a specially designed Wet & Dry epilator such as Braun Silk-épil 7. Hold skin tightly and do small areas at first. Your hairs should be short. If they are too long shave first and then wait a day or two. How long should you leave between epilating? Smooth hair-free results last up to 4 weeks. If you have just started using an epilator it is recommended that you epilate more often. Our hairs don’t all grow back at the same rate, but as the epilator can pick up hairs as short as 0.5mm we can start to control the hair regrowth. This means as soon as you see a hair come through you can zap it with your epilator, getting rid of those in-between days waiting for the hair to regrow. By epilating regularly over a three week period, the epilator picks up those annoying new hairs, meaning at the end of three weeks your skin will be left hair free with results lasting for up to four weeks – giving you a whole month to forget about removing hair before starting up the process again. Should I prep my legs before epilating? Pre-treating the skin makes the epilation process gentler.
If you’re epilating dry, rub your skin with a dry towel – do this prior to epilating as it causes hairs to stand up from the skin surface ensuring a perfect finish. Using a product like Braun Silképil 7 Dual Epilator also counters the flat hair problem as it has been developed with the SoftLift system® which guides short hairs towards the tweezers. The epilating system does not remove skin layers, so exfoliating with a separate product as part of your skincare routine helps to avoid ingrown hairs and again helps to lift the hairs ready for epilation. What are the best products to calm and smooth skin afterwards? After you epilate it’s best to wait a few hours before applying any product to the skin. When you do apply product, look for a moisturiser which includes aloe vera as this is a very soothing ingredient.

But its worth doing your homework, as they’re not the best payers. The amount your charity gets can vary vastly depending on which website you pick - this site-by-site guide helps you decide where to set your fundraising page up. The best we could find was “Givey “ who give a whopping £12.50 per charity donation with Gift Aid The company describes itself as a ‘social donation platform’. It makes its money from its business arm, meaning it’s free for charities and fundraisers. unlike other sites, it doesn’t charge transaction fees on donations, meaning that 100% of your donation reaches your chosen charity. It’s also free for charities to register and set up a page too. Currently 8,000 are registered. Seven of the top 10 UK Charities are included, the only downside is that Oxfam, Cancer Research & the NSPCC aren’t. Choosing a Wedding Venue?

ome people plan their whole day around their dream wedding location, while others don’t have a clue where to start. If your engaged choosing your wedding venue is one of the most important wedding planning decisions you’ll make.
The first thing to consider when choosing a wedding location is that there are likely to be two parts of your wedding to organise – the wedding ceremony and the wedding reception. As regards the ceremony, a church wedding is still the favourite choice for many couples, and most have a particular church in mind. In this case, the reception must be planned around the ceremony location. Factors such as ease of transport from service to reception will be important when planning your church wedding. If, on the other hand, you’re thinking about a civil wedding, you have the option of choosing a venue that will host both your wedding ceremony and your wedding reception. If this is what you are hoping for, you will need to choose a venue that is licensed for marriage ceremonies. This may come with a higher price tag than non-licensed wedding venues, but has the benefit of minimising the amount of travelling involved for you and your wedding guests.
How many guests?
The type of wedding you have will depend partly on how big it will be, so here are some things to think about before approaching wedding venues:
Venue capacity:
It may sound obvious but many venues will not be able to magic up extra space from nowhere if you add 20 extra guests at the last minute. You should have a good idea of numbers before you start looking at venues.
Seated or standing wedding reception?
A formal meal will obviously require more space than a stand-up buffet, so a venue whose seated capacity is 100 might well be able to accommodate 200 for a canapé reception. Which do you want?
Entertainment facilities:
Bands and other entertainment can take up a large amount of space, as can a dance floor, so decide when and where you want the entertainment to take place, and check with the venue that this can be done in the space available. Any number of buildings can make a perfect wedding reception venue, but here are some of the most popular options:

Venues There are so many different types of hotel that there’s likely to be something for everyone, from traditional to ultra-modern. Having accommodation on the spot is, of course, a big plus.
Marquee wedding reception.
If you have access to spacious gardens or other outdoor space, a marquee could be worth considering. Many people are surprised at how pricey it can be to hire a marquee for their wedding, but the plus side is that you can take control of wedding catering and could save a considerable amount by providing your own alcohol. Sports or social club wedding reception. Different types of club premises can be perfect for a wedding reception. Do plenty of research and you could find one that’s in a stunning location, too. For example, some sailing or rowing clubs have picturesque waterside views, and can often be hired at a reasonable price, certainly compared to other popular wedding venues.
Restaurant or pub wedding reception.
Food and drink are among the main ingredients for a successful wedding reception, so where better to head than to a lovely restaurant or pub? Bear in mind that you’re more likely to find a good match if your wedding party is smaller, and if you’re lucky you might even be able to escape the heavy costs that are often quoted as soon as you mention the ‘w’ word!Before signing on the dotted line, check the detail and small print.
Fees. Exaggerated costs, such as a hefty corkage fee or drinks prices, might mean compromising on other aspects of the wedding. Vote with your feet if you feel it’s not worth it.
Staff. Are the staff experienced and professional? Flexibility is also important. Are they willing to adapt to your needs? This will be a major factor in how smoothly your day runs.
Facilities. Is the venue suitable for guests with a disability, and can it provide appropriate seating for the elderly and/or young children?
Accommodation. Is there a reasonable range of accommodation within easy access of the venue? Transport. Is there enough parking for guests who drive, and decent transport links for those who don’t? Restrictions. Does the venue impose limitations that could negatively affect your plans? Some stipulate no loud music after a certain time, others don’t like confetti or candles, and certain (usually historic) venues forbid high-heeled shoes for fear of their flooring being damaged.
Photography. Plenty of natural light in your venue will mean better pictures. You might also want to check that there are plenty of appealing outdoor spots close at hand. For advice on choosing a photographer who will make the most of your wedding venue, read this useful
Decoration. Are table linen, flowers, place cards and other decorations included in the quoted price, or will you have to provide your own?

Wedding Insurance The thought of adding yet another expense to what is likely to already be one of the most expensive of your life may make you think wedding insurance isn’t worth paying out for. Plus, with all the many seemingly superfluous elements of cover that can come with this kind of insurance, it’s easy to see why many of couples decide to give it a miss and hope for the best.

owever wedding insurance is likely to be one of the smallest expenses when it comes to planning your big day – cover can start from around £55, which may be a very reasonable price to pay to know that if things go wrong, you’ll at least have a financial safety net to fall back on. Think back, when you got engaged did you insure your engagement ring? Of course you did, it’s probably the most expensive piece of jewellery you’ll ever own. So why wouldn’t you insure your wedding day, a day that costs on average £20,000? Unfortunately no matter how organised you are, things can (and do) go wrong. Which is why it’s essential that you invest in some wedding insurance to cover every eventuality.
What will it cover? First of all, it’s important to note that while wedding insurance will cover many eventualities, it almost certainly won’t pay out for instance if you or your fiancé experience lastminute cold feet and decide to call the wedding off. It also won’t pay out for details that don’t turn

out as you would have liked, for example if a rainstorm ruins your hair up or the cake turned out to be chocolate rather than fruit.

If anything goes wrong you’ll be secure in the knowledge that you’re covered, if nothing goes wrong, even better, but that small amount will have brought you peace of mind on your big day. ollowing a career as a Piper in the British Army, the Edinburgh City Police Pipe Band and, upon amalgamation, The Lothian and Borders Police Pipe Band which spanned a period of thirty years, I accepted a position as Head of Bagpipe Studies with The Sultan of Oman’s Armed Forces. Following completion of my contract in the Middle East, I was appointed as Pipe Major of the Edinburgh Universties Officers Training Corps - a position which I held for 12 years.
ABOUT JOHN When I joined the Edinburgh City Police in 1967, the Force boasted one of the best pipe bands in the world. During my service, the band won the World Pipe Band Championship Competition on three occasions – 1971,1972 and 1975 – and the Scottish Pipe Band Association’s first Intercontinental Championship in 1975. In addition, the band consistently won other prizes in the competitive field and I personally competed successfully in many solo competitions. Upon retiral from the Police, I continued my competitive band piping and became a member of the Black Bottle Pipe Band (Renfrew) under the direction of Pipe Major Iain McLeod. After a period of time with this band, it became obvious that the travel time involved conflicted with other commitments and I joined the Scottish Gas Caledonia Pipe Band in Edinburgh. As I no longer compete, I am able to perform at a large number of private and corporate functions, including weddings, and am free to travel any distance at short notice.
In the course of my piping career, I have travelled throughout the world. It has been my privilege to be invited to perform in many countries including Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czechoslovakia, Dubai, Eire, Guam, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Sultanate of Oman, Sweden, Switzerland and the U.S.A.

Coverage; I am willing to go anywhere in the world without restriction, I am based in the south of England and mainly cover Essex, London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
Formality With FUN! This is exactly how I’d describe the service I provide. You will get ALL the formality needed, delivered in a friendly manner so that you and your guests enjoy every second of the day. the emphasis is on the FUN while the formalities are still being taken care of! If it’s a party atmosphere you want, then that is what you get! (if you want a more formal affair, then I can do that too... it’s up to you, you’re the customer!)
In the normal course of events I will come to you and discuss your requirements and expectations for the day about a fortnight before. I have a questionnaire for you to fill out, which gives me a database to work from on your behalf on the day. This is my homework! It makes sure you get the day you want! This is when we set the type of mood you want for your day. I will also help those in need when it comes to the speeches. I can outline the speeches, write them, format them, show you how to present them (if I had a penny for every one who says “no problem, I do this every day at work...!”) and on the day can even make them on your behalf! On the day; I arrive approximately. 1 hour before your arrival at the reception venue and check the silly and obvious. Is there a cake knife? etc. I will then liaise with: • the catering staff on the best way to proceed and discuss timings. • the photographer and the videographer. • the DJ, who is then MC for the rest of the evening.
