Editor In Chief: Shafonne Myers smyers@prettypearbride.com
LETTER FROM THE EDITOR This issue has been weighting heavy on my heart hence why it’s taken a bit longer than normal to get it out. I started the Pretty Pear Bride Magazine as a way to bring bridal inspiration to plus size brides but I soon realized that it’s harder than I thought to put the time and energy into something even if you are passionate about it. So I had to take a break from working on it. And the crazy part is that people actually noticed. Let me back the train up a bit. When I was taking a break, I did some major soul searching about what means the most to me and what is giving me the most return and honestly the magazine doesn’t. The time I put into it just doesn’t equate to what I get back from it. BUT, I got tons of emails from plus size brides that actually missed it and really looked forward to

it for inspiration. And at that moment I realized that it wasn’t about making a return on it, it was about giving curvy brides inspiration and hope that they aren’t getting anywhere else. That’s what it was about. And here I am back, renew, rejuvenated and back on track with the reason why I do what I do. I do it for those brides that long to see a plus size bride that looks like them and gaining inspiration and confidence from that. Yes, that’s worth more than any amount of money. So here we are with our Spring Issue I’m sharing some amazing tips and trips for a spring plus size bride, as well as gorgeous real weddings and our cover shoot all the way from the UK. Enjoy and I’ll see you for the Summer Issue, which won’t be too far behind this issue! LOL! @prettypearbride @prettypearbride /prettypearbride /prettypearbride Spring 2016 PPB Magazine 5

T
he changing seasons create a great opportunity to rethink your habits to keep your “always on” routine at its freshest. With some quick, consistent changes, you can refresh your daily routine and form better habits with minimal effort required. Here are five easy tips to feel confidently fresh and always on as you go about your day.
P
rep the night before. Have you ever been late in the morning because you weren’t organized for the day ahead? Take 10 minutes before bed to pack your bag for the next day. After all, the more you rush, the more likely you are to forget something important. Gather your essentials in advance - whether gym clothes, lunch or handbag basics - so you don’t miss anything in the morning. Anticipating the day’s needs will make you feel more confident come morning knowing you don’t have to worry that you’ve forgotten anything before heading out the door.
E
liminate the snooze button. It’s tempting to hit the snooze button when the alarm goes off, but that is no way to get ahead. For a better start, set the alarm for the time you truly need to be up and then place it somewhere that requires you to get out of bed to turn it off. This will make it easier to wake up the first time. Then use those extra few minutes to eat breakfast, shower or apply makeup - the possibilities are endless. Give it three weeks and you won’t miss your snooze button at all.
F
reshen up your beauty routine. Do you really need a dozen bottles of half-used moisturizers and a purse full of last season’s lip and nail colors? Refresh your beauty cabinet and makeup bag to keep your essentials easily accessible. Every woman has her list of must-haves to keep on hand and in her bag - dry shampoo, hand sanitizer and daily panty liners. Try Always Xtra Protection liners to feel shower fresh all day long. These thin and flexible daily liners are super comfy and keep you 5 times drier as you go about your day. It’s extra convenient that they are individually wrapped, so you can toss some in your gym bag, purse, desk and bathroom for that always on, always shower fresh feeling anywhere you go.
T
ravel essentials to stay shower fresh. In your 24/7 life, you never know where the day will take you. From morning meetings in the office to last minute business trips, you always want to feel your best. There are certain items that are portable and easy to keep around to refresh without taking up too much room in a carry on. Deodorant, daily panty liners and eye drops are a smart travel top three. Deodorant will keep you smelling sweet and can also be used to prevent blisters from unforgiving shoes, eye drops can refresh dry eyes or take redness out of a zit and 50 percent of women agree that wearing a liner on a long flight would keep them feeling fresher, according to a 2013 Always online study. From take-off to touch down, you’ll not only have finished reading your latest book club selection, you’ll also feel as fresh as when you started.
F
ind time to refresh daily. Whether near or far, at home or at work, burning off some steam (and even some calories) with exercise or a night out is a great way to refresh your body and mind. Don’t let any 9-5 obligations keep you from finding time for yourself! Carving out a little “me” time is an important way to keep you feeling your freshest day in and day out. To make it easier to fit it all in, try creating calendar appointments for your workouts and social plans to make them feel like more of a priority. Also, keep your personal essentials (make up, panty liners, deodorant) handy to seamlessly transition from one thing to the next, proving that an “always on” woman can do it all and still feel her freshest!
Try these easy tips to help refresh and reorganize your daily routine for the next few weeks and see how simple it is to change your habits.

Fuel Your Day with 5 Superfoods
W
ith groggy eyes and slow movements, you peel yourself out of bed each day. Between the morning and afternoon slumps, you long for the energy of your youth. Does this sound familiar? Then you’ll be glad to know about five superfoods that can help energize you from the inside out, so you can feel your best all day.
As a registered dietician, nutrition expert at On Target Living, and author of the newly released cookbook “Target To Table: Delicious & Healthy Meals One Superfood at a Time,” Kristen Johnson understands that food plays a big role in health and wellness, and believes there’s no such thing as anti-aging - only aging well. Here are the five energizing superfoods Johnson recommends to fuel your body the healthy way.

1. Ancient grains “Ancient grains have remained virtually untouched and unchanged for thousands of years compared to modern wheat or corn that’s been bred for higher yield and drought resistance,” says Johnson.
you from getting sick.” Spirulina and chlorella are also very cleansing and detoxifying, which helps improve digestion. Because both are high in protein, they are also great for vegans. Swallow (don’t chew) the tablets with water 15-20 minutes prior to eating. Aim for 10-20 tablets a day.
4. Cacao Ancient grains are extremely high in protein, fiber and minerals. Johnson notes these grains can be helpful in managing Cacao is the raw, unprocessed form of chocolate. It is inflammation and are a great source of energizing B vitamins for high in magnesium, manganese, zinc, and iron. Johnson the brain and body. notes that cacao has many potential health benefits, including supporting brain and heart health, mood, healthy Ancient grains include spelt, quinoa, chia, amaranth, body weight, and energy. Cacao can also enhance relaxation buckwheat, wheat berries, kamut, freekah, bulgur, barley, and promote a better night’s sleep. Because it is high in sorghum, teff, millet, oats, wild rice and farro. These grains can be used to make hot dishes similar to oatmeal, or can be cooked magnesium, it has also been shown to help build muscle and aid in muscle recovery. Cacao also contains more and used in salads and entrees. antioxidants than red wine, green tea and blueberries. 2. Omega-3 fats
“Mitochondria are the powerhouses of the human cell, meaning they supply the body with energy. The better you feed the mitochondria, the healthier and better performing the cell will be,” explains Johnson. “Cell membranes must be permeable to allow the cell to be fed and allow ‘fuel’ for the mitochondria. The omega-3 fats EPA & DHA found in fish and algae are a great way to make the cell soft and permeable. This will help to fuel the body and improve energy and stamina.” Our bodies cannot make omega-3 fats naturally, and therefore they must come from food or supplements, notes Johnson. “Because fresh, cold-water, wild-caught fish is not always available, I often recommend a high-quality supplement like Nordic Naturals orange-flavored Arctic Cod Liver Oil,” says Johnson. Cod liver oil has naturally occurring vitamin D that is needed to absorb calcium, an important factor for bone health. Nordic Naturals Arctic Cod Liver Oil is a great source of the omega-3s EPA and DHA that help contributes to a healthy heart and brain, hormonal balance, and a healthy immune response. Simply take 1 tablespoon daily or add to your smoothies or salad dressings.
Cacao nibs are easy to consume and can be mixed in oatmeal, smoothies or trail mix. You can also blend cacao nibs or cacao powder with coconut or almond milk and a little bit of honey in a blender for a healthy version of chocolate milk or hot chocolate.
5. Coconut “Coconuts contain a healthy saturated fat high in lauric, capric, and caprylic acids, which have antiviral and antifungal properties and help contribute to healthy digestion,” says Johnson. “Coconuts also contain medium-chain fatty acids (MCTs) that can enhance energy and metabolism.” Coconut water, coconut milk and shredded coconut are all great options to add to your diet. Using virgin coconut oil is also a great way to sneak in more coconut when cooking, baking, or snacking. Simply use it in place of oil in cooking and butter in baking. It’s great for spreading on bread and for making popcorn, too. [Image by Photography by Gema]
3. Spirulina and chlorella “Spirulina and chlorella are fresh-water algae that are super high in chlorophyll, which is extremely energizing for the body,” says Johnson. “Because spirulina and chlorella are cell-builders, they also help to build the immune system and can help prevent

To help you take on your growing laundry pile, Whirlpool Corporation’s Institute of Home Science cleaning expert Mary Zeitler weighed in on the best ways to wash workout gear and remove your toughest stains:
Washing athletic clothes Zeitler suggests turning running shorts, yoga pants, lycra and spandex garments inside out before washing. You should also wash these garments in warm - not hot - water, and stay away from liquid chlorine bleach which can break down the fabric.
Dirt and mud Remove excess dirt and mud from the surface and rinse in cold water before adding to the washer. Wash in the warmest water safe for the garment with a gentle detergent and, if necessary, you can follow up with a wash in color-safe bleach for colors or liquid chlorine bleach for whites. For grass stains, Zeitler says to check the care label and soak the garment in a mixture of detergent and water before adding to the warmest wash that’s appropriate for the material.
Sweat and odors
The right way to wash your workout gear
I
f you’re finding more stains on your clothes because the weather is warming up, you’re not alone. You may find yourself doing more loads of laundry during the summer, when outdoor activities like hiking and sports are likely to cause extra stains.
12 Spring 2016 PPB Magazine
Apply liquid detergent or a pre-treater to help loosen deodorant, which can trap sweat and odors. If the odors persist, you can always send the garment through another cycle before transferring to the dryer. No matter what kind of stain you’re working with, don’t put your stained clothes in the dryer until you are sure it was successfully removed. Another way to wash workout gear is to take advantage of the PowerWash System within the Maytag Front Load Washer, which provides great cleaning power and the ability to handle your toughest loads. Ways Flowers And Fashion Go Hand In Hand We’ve all heard of the 1960s “flower power” trend in fashion and we shop floral prints and patterns season after season. But the importance of flowers in fashion stems way beyond that, influencing everything from original designs to runway décor and signature scents. Flowers show emotion, beauty and set the mood for a variety of occasions, so it’s no wonder they’ve become an influence for designers everywhere. In the midst of this month’s New York Fashion Week, here are four ways that flowers and fashion go hand in hand:
Runway décor High-end fashion brands are often inspired by the bright colors of flowers for fashion presentations and runway shows. These flowers set the tone and create the perfect background to showcase the designer’s creations. This season, kate spade new york partnered with the iconic floral and gifting company, FTD, to recreate the beautiful New York City flower bodegas full of fresh blooms. FTD provided over 30,000 flowers for the event, including bright pink gerbera daisies and roses in a variety of bright and coral hues to match the new kate spade new york spring line. The bright display of flowers created a fun, fresh, vibrant atmosphere for attendees.
18 Spring 2016 PPB Magazine
Design From the little black dress to the skinny jean, there are some trends that never seem to go out of style. But one of the biggest fashion statements that remains timeless on runways is the floral print. Throughout the seasons, floral prints small and large fade in and out of style and represent various decades of fashion. Additionally, fashion designers look to gardening for inspiration in their designs. Not only do flower shapes inspire styles such as the tulip skirt, but some designers actually take refuge in their gardens to recharge their creative juices. Gardening brings them peace and serenity when they are feeling uninspired.
Scent The fashion industry doesn’t stop at apparel. Many famous designers have created their own perfume or line of perfumes to complement their apparel and accessories. In 1919, Coco Chanel launched Chanel No. 5, a perfume created to elicit the essence of a single garden flower. It remains a top-selling scent today and Chanel has since released a variety of other scents for men and women.
Accessories Floral hues and patterns find their way into the latest fashion accessory designs season after season, especially in the spring. Spring fashion is often characterized by bright floral colors to signal the end of winter and the anticipated warmer weather. Bold, floral-inspired accessories like handbags, jewelry and shoes are used in looks across fashion runways to add pops of unexpected color for a brilliantly eye-catching look. Without flowers, the fashion industry would be an entirely different world. Designers may have talent dripping from their fingertips, but the ways they become inspired is often as simple as stepping out into nature. [Image by Photography by Gema] Spring 2016 PPB Magazine 19

Wine Buying Tips for Weddings T
raditional wedding rules have fallen by the wayside - food trucks are in, having a hashtag is a must, bridesmaids no longer wear the same dress and groomsmen are sometimes in sneakers. Couples are actively seeking ways to differentiate themselves and get creative. All that aside, there is one thing that remains constant - weddings must have wine. Without wine, there is no glass to raise during the toast to the bride and groom and nothing to drink when the bar closes during dinner. Wine is the first thing guests are offered when they take a seat, and - you know that they say - it’s important to make a good first impression. Choosing the right varietals for your wedding does not have to be a stressful endeavor. Whether you’re a novice wine drinker or a connoisseur, follow these four tips and you’ll please a crowd without spending a fortune:
1. Say “cheers!” with a sparkling wine. People love a good toast, and nothing washes down a teary maid of honor speech like a glass of sparkling. Riondo Prosecco is an accessible option that’s ideal to enjoy any day of the year, but perfectly suited for special occasions. You’ll get six pours out of a bottle, so plan accordingly!
2. Good things come in threes. In addition to a sparkling, you’ll want a red and a white option that are familiar and food-friendly. You can’t go wrong with a Merlot - look for labels from the Napa region. For a white, Terlato Friuli Pinot Grigio is exceptional and ideal for food pairing.
3. Wine math: What you didn’t learn in school. Running out of wine mid-wedding isn’t an option, so it’s important to do the math. You should anticipate getting about 5 glasses per bottle and assume that each guest will drink one glass per hour. Follow this rule and the wine will flow all night long, keeping you and your guests happy.
4. Don’t break the bank, but stay away from the cheap stuff. Choosing an excellent wine doesn’t mean paying top-dollar, but buying too cheap can mean sacrificing quality. There are countless high-quality, delicious, wines available for $10-$20 per bottle, so leave the cheap stuff on the bottom shelf! 20 Spring 2016 PPB Magazine

Land, sea or air: 3 ways to plan your North West Australian adventure
Rugged gorges, epic waterways and beautiful ocean views: this could only be describing the bewildering terrain of Western Australia. But if you’re really looking for the best sightseeing and activities, head north to the Kimberley, the gem of North West Australia. Famously known as being “the last wilderness” region, the Kimberley is the ultimate “bucket list” destination for adventure-seeking travelers. 62 Spring 2016 PPB Magazine
The Kimberley has two distinct seasons, the dry and the wet. During the dry season, which runs from May until October, the temperature is warm and comfortable with blue skies and easier access to beautiful gorges, waterfalls and swimming holes. The wet season, which extends from November until April, is characterized by heavy and short downpours in the evening or late afternoon, providing a refreshing change to the heat of the day. The wet is when the landscape is refreshed and transformed into a lush, green environment with overflowing rivers and spectacular waterfalls. From 30 million-year-old rock formations and waterfalls, to more than 1,300 native animal species, the Kimberley region is the perfect destination for those envy-inducing Instagram photos. Whether you’re seeing the destination by land, sea or air, here are some key experiences you’ll enjoy in the Kimberley region:
Rich history and culture on land: * The Gibb River Road, which links the exotic pearling town of Broome to the town of Kununurra, is one of Australia’s most renowned four-wheel drive challenges. This legendary 600-kilometer (410 mile) stock route was originally used for droving cattle, but is now also a captivating destination for travelers seeking the ultimate Australian outback experience.. Campsites, swimming holes, waterfalls, Aboriginal rock art and walking opportunities are plentiful along this route. If self-driving on the other side of the road is not of interest, companies such as Kimberley Outback Tours offer hosted excursions. * In Broome, Western Australia’s pearling town, you can shop for strands of pearls found in warm, crystal clear waters - and even tour a pearling farm for a firsthand look at the cultivating process! And, in both Broome and Kununurra, you can watch master jewelers at work on pieces incorporating some of the most exquisite pink and natural diamonds on earth, all mined within .the Kimberley region of Western Australia. * El Questro Wilderness Park, located in the east Kimberley, extends about 80 kilometers (50 miles) north to south, totaling one million acres in size. Its landscape offers outstanding diversity including rainforests, gorges and waterfalls. Enjoy an abundance of birds, mammals, reptiles, fish and invertebrates congregating near one of the four major river systems, try your hand at barramundi fishing or set out on a horse trek to see beaches and dazzling landscapes all around. To stay right near the
action, check out the lodging options at El Questro.
Fascinating sea adventures: * Cruise the pristine waters of the Kimberley with a smaller ship operator, such as True North, for an adventure into the true wilderness, which offer a more personalized experience and opportunities to explore secluded gorges and swimming holes that are not accessible by larger vessels. You’ll journey past towering red cliffs and pockets of rainforest, observe rare wildlife and ancient Aboriginal rock art, swim in cloudless pools and shower underneath dramatic waterfalls. * For stunning sights of wildlife and nature, divers and snorkelers can check out the Rowley Shoals off the coast of Broome, as it ranks amongst the most remote and pristine marine areas in the world. Amongst the three coral atolls found here, you’ll see colorful gardens, giant clams and schools of tuna and mackerel.
Excursions in flight: * You can explore the Kimberley by air via the Kimberley Aerial Highway, which is a series of airstrips offering views of the region’s most iconic landscapes and one-of-akind accommodations. Along the highway, snap photos above or land near natural attractions such as the Bungle Bungle Range in Purnululu National Park, Cape Leveque, the world’s only Horizontal Waterfalls at Talbot Bay, and the El Questro Wilderness Park. For the ultimate in flight luxury, stay at the Berkeley River Lodge, accessible only via its private airstrip. * Horizontal Falls Seaplane Adventures offers a fournight expedition, providing an exciting way to explore the untouched natural wonderland of the Kimberley. You’ll experience a seaplane flight over the Buccaneer Archipelago followed by a water landing on Talbot Bay. State of the art fishing and expedition vessels, helicopters and luxury houseboats await for amazing landscape views, personalized excursions and endless opportunities for private romance. No matter how you want to explore, you’ll find an experience in the Kimberley that’s perfect for your sense of adventure.
