“Partitions have been used in spaces in many different ways, to separate a space functionally and visually. In this home, individual carved wooden panels come together to create a divider between two areas of a large living room, and a wooden lattice as a divider within a bedroom. Partitions can be used effectively in many different ways not only to divide spaces but also as a decorative element. In restaurants we have used creative partitions to sectionalise the private or VIP area from the rest of the space.”

“There are three surfaces of a home that define a space - floors, ceiling and walls. Partitions are something that comes at eye level that can really enhance how a space looks and feels, and forms such an important element. Functionally, it divides two spaces and creates a spatial partition between two areas. But aesthetically, it serves as the entire backdrop for both the spaces on either side. Dressing up your partition walls is important for these two reasons.”

Tap The Trend

“We as legacy rug makers were wanting to push the envelope on the design front, challenge ourselves, our production methodologies, experiment with weaves etc. In the midst of the pandemic lockdown, I reconnected with my friend Pushkar, Founder of The Grafiosi and Origin One. He’s a designer, photographer and artist, and our aesthetic sensibilities sync up completely. We ended up becoming close friends and wanted to make something together to see how we could challenge each other, and it came at a time that Origin One was contemplating over their Home section. We worked together to create a never seen before collection of rugs for the Indian and global market, something experimental both in terms of design and production, and we did so by relearning from each other and the entire process of rug creation together from scratch at source from the weavers themselves,” shares the beaming Nikita.

Origin One is known to create everyday objects like stationery and is founded and spearheaded by Pushkar Thakur
