John Deere is now offering two of its grader models in the European market. The machines will be sold and supported through the Wirtgen dealer and distributor network. This move follows John Deere’s acquisition of the Wirtgen Group and shows how the US firm is keen to develop its operations in new markets. The company is starting with the introduction of its graders as these sit best alongside the Wirtgen range for road construction. However, other machines from the John Deere range will be introduced to the European market in due course, with some of the dozers likely to be next in line.
The two graders from the eight-model John Deere grader range being offered are the 622GP and 672GP, as these meet best with European requirements. The machines offer high performance, high output diesels, a 6.8litre delivering 169kW and a 9litre delivering 190kW respectively, which meet the
latest emissions requirements while offering low fuel consumption. The 622GP has a moldboard width of 3.66m while the 672GP has a moldboard width of 4.27m.
These EH models are equipped with both ergonomic joystick controls and a conventional steering wheel, which the firm says makes
CAT TECHNOLOGY FOR THE 336 EXCAVATORS
Integrated Cat Connect Technology has boosted the performance of Caterpillar’s 336 and 336 GC 36tonne excavators making them around 45% more efficient, claims the manufacturer.
The standard Cat Grade with 2D system provides guidance for depth, slope, and horizontal distance to grade through the standard touchscreen monitor, making operators more accurate. The system is readily upgradable to Cat Grade with Advanced 2D or Cat Grade with 3D.
Standard Grade Assist automates boom, stick, and bucket movements so operators can effortlessly stay on grade with single-lever digging. Cat Payload delivers precise load targets and increased loading efficiency with on-the-go weighing and real-time payload estimates without swinging to prevent truck over/underloading.
The E-fence feature prevents the excavator from moving outside operator-defined set points - particularly useful when working beneath structures or near traffic. www.cat.com
them easy to operate. Features also include six-wheel drive with automatic differential lock, which allows the machines to power through the toughest cuts and is said to give operators increased traction in poor ground conditions. www.deere.com
Doosan DA30-5 and
DA40 now Stage V
Doosan is launching Stage V compliant versions of its 30tonne DA30 and 40tonne DA40 articulated dump trucks. Doosan says that the DA30 and DA40 were upgraded in 2018 with a range of new features including a cab, a selflevelling front suspension and a tandem bogie system.
The Stage V models now have Scania 9litre and 13litre engines after two years of very intensive testing in exacting construction and mining environments, says the company. There is a new positioning of the diesel and AdBlue tanks. These, also, are now much lower than before, allowing the operator to fill both tanks while standing next to the machine, meaning safer operator ground-level filling.
The greasing system has also been relocated to make it easily accessible from ground level. Space has been provided above the automatic lubrication system - which
is standard - for additional grease cartridges and a filling pump. The company also says that the transmission filters have been installed close to the greasing system, where they are also very easy to access. All of these systems are protected to ensure that any excess drops of oil/grease are collected and can be
removed during service and maintenance.
Like all Doosan ADTs, the new models feature an articulation hinge positioned behind the turning ring to provide equal weight distribution to the front axle even during maximum steer articulation.

HAMM’S LATEST SOIL COMPACTORS
Hamm claims increased compaction performance for key models in its single drum roller range. One of the innovations from the firm is a new compaction measurement system developed for use with oscillation type single drum rollers. The company’s new VIO compaction meter allows users to measure and document machine performance when operating in oscillation mode.
The package allows customers to document each pass, even when using continuous dynamic compaction control applications with oscillation. The system is available for the firm’s H 7i VIO and H 13i VIO compactors.
Also new for the soil compaction range are the C models, which benefit from extra climbing ability. The rollers have a more powerful hydrostatic drive that can deliver up to 30% more torque than a standard model. As a result, these models have better traction and climbing ability and can be used for heavy earthworks or compacting cohesive soils. However, the standard diesels are fitted so the machines have the same fuel economy as the standard models.
And new too for the soil compactor range is a new dozer blade with revised geometry that allows more material to be moved and distributed than before. Special skid shoes are said to prevent the blade from digging into the ground and it has a patented, highvisibility cross member that allows a clear forward view.
Other innovations on display will be the DV+ series pivot-steered tandem rollers that incorporate the new Easy Drive operating concept.
The HD+ series tandem rollers and H series compactors will in the future also be equipped with Easy Drive. But visitors will be getting a good look at the first models in Munich.
For the earth-moving sector, the compaction specialists are presenting the ultra-small H 5i and H 7i compactors.
The extensive package of innovations is rounded off with the 3000 series: the classic earth-moving machines have been updated in some areas to meet the specific requirements of the Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets. In the rubber-wheeled rollers segment, there will be the GRW 180i with a maximum weight of 18tonnes.
Hamm will also demonstrate some innovation in measurement and documentation technologies because WITOS HCQ will allow data to be transferred directly from and to rollers in real time. www.hamm.eu

HITACHI UNVEILING THE ZX210X-6 ICT
Hitachi is unveiling its latest mid-size excavator – the ZX210X-6 ICT hydraulic excavatordecked out with Trimble machine control.
The ZX210X-6 ICT is Hitachi’s first ICT hydraulic excavator with machine control in Europe. The company claimed that the ZX210X-6 will have a huge impact on construction and civil engineering projects – increasing efficiency by between 30-50%,
improving safety and making life easier for operators.
The semi-automatic operation of the front of the machine ensures consistently high levels of accuracy, according to the manufacturer. As a result, the amount of repetitive work on site is decreased and less time is needed to complete construction projects. This leads to reduced running costs and fewer emissions.
Hitachi’s ZX210X-6 ICT hydraulic excavator comes with
One of the features that enables the ZX210X-6 to work more quickly than conventional models is the bucket angle retention. Slope finishing can done with fewer movements because the angle of the bucket is maintained throughout. This also allows the operator to focus on the operation of the boom and arm. Another feature is the overcut protection function, which enables operators to work quickly and easily, without worrying about over-digging. The edge of the bucket is controlled by the ZX210X-6, so that it follows the target surface. Hitachi says that the sensors mounted on the body, boom, arm and bucket of the ZX210X-6 are among the fastest available. These enable accurate measurement of the excavator’s incline and the angle of the front of the machine, working in harmony with the hydraulic control unit.
The accurate position of the ZX210X-6 can be determined with the 3D system. 3D civil engineering design data can be downloaded by the machine via the internet or a USB device and its position and altitude are then ascertained by satellite positioning and the sensors.

CATERPILLAR D6 XE
– ELECTRIC DRIVE
Caterpillar’s new D6 bulldozer comes with the choice of a 4-speed fully automatic drive or a high-drive electric transmission, an industry first, according to Cat.
The D6 automatic transmission provides increased productivity and up to 20% better fuel efficiency versus its 3-speed predecessor. But it’s the XE electric transmission version that will offer up to 35% better fuel efficiency and increased agility compared to the previous 3-speed model D6T. The diesel engines runs at continuous lower RPM to power only the generator that
produces the electricity for the drive, which means much less fuel is consumed. Constant power to the ground, continuous push and greater manoeuvrability mean faster cycle times.
The D6/D6 XE is available in VPAT - Variable Power Angle Tilt - or push arm configurations with standard or two widths of Low Ground Pressure (LGP) undercarriage. A variety of blade types, track shoe widths and rear attachments enable the machine to be optimised for every type of job.

Case gets out of a tight spot with the 856C grader
Case is set to unveil its patented combined steering functionality for its grader range, including the CASE 856C AWD model.
Case has combined industrystandard controls for the front wheel and frame articulation angle into one function that is managed by either the joystick or the steering wheel.
Combined steering uses a network of angular sensors to provide steering feedback to the vehicle control unit. It can be activated when required and used in conjunction with variable steering ratios to adapt to site conditions. For job sites that require tight turns in confined spaces, the two functions can be supplemented by the wheel-lean function. At the
touch of a button, operators can activate this functionality, making driving and grading tasks much easier. When not required, the wheel-lean function can be disconnected from the combined steering, leaving wheel steering angle and frame articulation moving simultaneously.
Case says that precise control of the lean, steering and articulation angles are crucial for maximising efficiencies when operating in restricted areas. But, while operators are concentrating on manoeuvring the machine, they are spending less time navigating the site effectively and carrying out their grading tasks. This situation can lead to operator fatigue and reduced productivity. www.casece.com

LIEBHERR ROLLS OUT NEW R 934
Liebherr says that the new R 934 Litronic excavator is a completely updated design characteristic of the company’s new range of “Generation 8” machines.
As with other crawler excavators, the R 934 is being made by Liebherr-France in Colmar, France.
The Stage V R 934 weighs around 35tonnes and is positioned between the R 936 (Stage IV) and the new R 938, which also is Stage V. It is based on the platform of the new and larger R 938. Both models are available with the relevant engines in countries where emissions standards regulation is extremely stringent, or less stringent or in countries where regulation does not exist.
Backhoe bucket capacities of the R 934 varies from 1-2.5m³.
The digging forces and tractive forces of the undercarriage and the swing torque of the uppercarriage have been significantly increased compared to the
previous generation. The load curve and inertia of the swivelling drive have been optimised to reduce fuel consumption.
The R 934 has a particularly robust x-shaped undercarriage type, according to the manufacturer, including a new wide long crawler (WLC) undercarriage, which guarantees the high stability required for especially heavy-duty use on softer ground. The crawler chassis is completely maintenance-free and the track rollers feature permanent lubrication. An automatic central lubrication system makes it possible to maximise both component service life and productivity.
LED technology has completely replaced the halogen headlights, increasing the operating life and reducing the electricity consumption. A range of lighting packages are available, with the LED+ lighting system as an option.

BENNINGHOVEN’S ECO PLANT DEBUT
Benninghoven is debuting its ECO asphalt mixing plant concept. Made in the Wirtgen Group company’s native Germany, ECO asphalt mixing plants can produce 100-320 tonnes/hour of asphalt, combining state-ofthe-art, innovative Benninghoven technologies and a high standard of manufacturing in compact container sizes. ECO plants can be operated as stationary systems but can also handle rapid location changes.
The modular design of the ECO series also allows various high-tech components to be integrated afterwards. In this way, operating companies can then also react to future customer and market requirements – particularly when it comes to solutions for asphalt recycling. All main ECO
plant components are designed for simple transport in standard container dimensions. The plant’s throughput capability is ideal for supplying road pavers with a constant flow of asphalt – even in major projects such as motorway construction.
An integrated mixed material loading silo ensures a sufficient buffer while also providing storage capacity for up to seven different asphalt types (recipes). Thanks to the modular system, this can be expanded or retrofitted at any time with one or two secondary towers.
Because all main ECO plant components are designed in ISO standard container dimensions, transport by lorry, ship or rail is easy. The advantages of the container design of ECO asphalt
SECMAIR’S EFFICIENT ROAD REPAIRS
SECMAIR continues to develop its Synchronous Chipspreader (SC) model which is used mainly to patch roads. This latest version features automated functions, boosting quality of working. The firm says that this offers public works companies better safety for personnel as well as improved quality and accurate working.
The SMART ROAD PATCH technology has been built into a more general concept called E TRAXX. This package offers full traceability for road maintenance and uses artificial intelligence.

Ammann’s pneumatic roller
Ammann says that its latest model pneumatic asphalt compactor is more versatile, due to its innovative ballasting system. This modular ballasting system allows the machine weight to be adjusted from 9-28tonnes in just one hour by using a forklift. This equates to a load/ tyre adjustment from 1,125kg to 3,500kg. The system allows the use of varied ballasting materials including water, steel, concrete and sand. A system allows control of tyre pressure from the cab, making it easy for the operator to control machine weight and tyre pressure, the two main tyred roller compaction factors.
The Ammann ART 280 hydrostatic tyred roller is available with different engines to
meet local requirements on emissions levels. The roller is powered by the latest Tier 4 Final/Stage 4 engine from Deutz with EGR, DOC and SCR technology. In less regulated countries, the compactor features a Tier 3/ Stage 3A Deutz engine with EGR and muffler. Front isostatic axles with oscillation are said to offer higher stability and increased surface coverage and quality. The roomy cabin offers low sound levels, a 170° rotating seat, a multifunction display and good all-round visibility. The new roller is said to provide easy access for maintenance and servicing, lowering downtime.

BOMAG’s hybrid compactor
BOMAG’s hybrid asphalt compactor is said to offer lower fuel consumption and running costs. The new BW 174 AP tandem roller features a hydraulic hybrid drive system that provides power for peak demand during operation. The machine’s diesel engine, hydraulic accumulator and compaction system are all integrated to provide high working efficiency.
The package combines diesel engine, hydraulic accumulator and the firm’s Asphalt Manager system. The hydraulic accumulator is designed to provide power for short-term peak loads, such as when the vibration system is activated. This has allowed the firm to power the machine with a Stage V compliant diesel rated at 56kW rather than the 75kW engine normally needed for a 10tonne class asphalt roller. This more compact engine needs only a diesel particulate filter (DPF) to meet
emissions requirements, with no need for the additional and complex selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system, which also requires refills of AdBlue fluid. Using the smaller
diesel helps lower fuel consumption and emissions by up to 20% and running costs are further lowered by the removal of the SCR system. The hydraulic hybrid accumulator provides up to 20kW of power and a torque of up to 100Nm for peak loads. The system is charged in overrun mode, recovering energy instead of consuming fuel.
In addition, the machine features BOMAG’s sophisticated Asphalt Manager compaction system, providing more precise control. This offers infinitely variable control of compaction forces and vibration can be accelerated from standstill with little energy requirement. According to the firm, the required frequency is achieved faster than with conventional vibration or oscillation systems. The stepless, adjustable exciter is said to ensure that the forces required for compaction are controlled automatically. www.bomag.com
VÖGELE’S
GIANT PAVER
Vögele is introducing the updated SUPER 3000-3(i) asphalt paver. This is the biggest asphalt paver in the range and can now be used to pave widths up to a maximum 18m. This machine can be used to pave multiple highway lanes at once and also suits airport runway paving work. Power for the SUPER 3000-3(i) comes from a six-cylinder diesel rated at 354kW and the machine is designed with a throughput of 1,800tonnes/hour, while it can lay asphalt to a maximum depth of 500mm.
Customers for the SUPER 3000-3(i) can choose either the SB 300 or SB 350 screeds, which are fixed units that can be fitted with hydraulically-adjustable ends. These hydraulic ends can provide from 0-1.25m of extension on either side of the fixed screed. The SB 300 screed replaces the earlier SB 250 and can also be used on the firm’s SUPER 1800-3(i), SUPER 1900-3(i) and SUPER 2100-3(i) pavers, as well as the SUPER 3000-3(i).
Meanwhile the SB 350 has been designed specifically for use with the mighty SUPER 3000-3(i). The tamper bar screeds have a new system that allows the operator to change the stroke hydraulically to suit varied layer thicknesses, just by pressing a button on either the paver or screed consoles. This is much quicker and simpler than the conventional method of changing tamper stroke manually using a special tool. The screeds also benefit from an improved heating system that cuts warming up time from cold by 50%, as well as a special telescoping and positioning system that reduces the set-up times when mounting the fixed bolt-on extensions. www.voegele.info

Wirtgen’s updated cold recycling
Wirtgen claims that its new W 380 Cri cold recycler is highly sophisticated and productive. The machine can carry out cold recycling duties for widths of 3.2m, 3.5m and 3.8m, typically working to depths of 100-330mm. The company claims that this machine can be used to repair damaged road stretches quickly and effectively, providing a quality finish while minimising the need for materials transport to and from the site by 90%. This process is said to be energy
saving, allowing the saving of 10-12litres of fuel/tonne of materials, as well as reducing the need for binders by 50%.
The machine uses the proven cold recycling process, recycling surface and base course material as part of a recycling train operating across the entire width of the pavement in a single pass. The machine is used to granulate road material and transform it into a new, homogeneous material mixture by adding binding agents such as cement,
bitumen emulsion, or foamed bitumen. It can remove an asphalt surface either in full or in layers as required by the road condition.
With a mixing capacity of up to 800tonnes/hour, the cold recycler can feed recycled material to an asphalt paver through its rear-mounted swivel-mounted and heightadjustable discharge conveyor, or the recycled material can be left on the ground for windrowing.

MARINI’S ASPHALT INNOVATION
Marini is introducing a sophisticated batching plant able to use a feed containing up to 100% recycled asphalt pavement (RAP). The innovative Master Tower is said to feature technology that is completely different from existing plant designs.
This batch plant has its two drums mounted end to end. The first drum is for drying the virgin aggregates and is heated by a burner. An internal tube carries the heat through the virgin aggregate drum, ending before it reached the end of the drum. Hot gases then circulate in the drum before passing through heat exchange systems to the second drum, where the RAP is added. This design avoids direct heating of the bitumen, so there
is no risk of this being burned off. The plant can use a mix of virgin materials plus RAP, or produce mixes from RAP only.
Simulations have helped understand the way that materials
and spacing of the flights inside the aggregates drum and the RAP drum was modelled so as to optimise material flow and to ensure the materials received the most efficient heat distribution.
with the study for the flight positioning, as well as assisting in evaluating the temperatures recorded by the sensors inside the plant.
Heat from the first drum is said to be transferred efficiently to the second drum, allowing the RAP to be heated effectively. Meanwhile, insulated piping from the end of the second drum then reroutes remaining heat back to the first drum, further increasing overall efficiency. Both drums are heavily insulated to retain heat and reduce losses in the system. Because the plant relies on a single burner only, it requires less maintenance but, perhaps more importantly, it also uses 30% less fuel than a plant with a similar output that features twin burners.

VOLVO LAUNCHES TWO MOST COMPACT PAVERS EVER
Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) is unveiling two new compact and agile pavers, the P2820D ABG and P2870D ABG. Made for the city, the P2820D ABG and P2870D ABG are the most compact pavers in Volvo CE’s line-up. Ideal for small-tomedium paving applications, the duo offer low operating cost, safety and operator comfort.
Not unlike the rest of Volvo’s paver range, the P2820D ABG and P2870D ABG generate low levels of noise, making them suited to inner-city projects, such as cycle tracks, parking lots and pedestrian areas. Highly efficient, the new machines also promise low fuel consumption and low
CO² emissions. With their 55kW Volvo engines and perfectly matched hydraulics, the compact pavers feature the same best-inclass drive system fitted to larger models.
BOMAG REDUCING MILLING DUST
BOMAG’s latest innovation for milling is designed to reduce dust levels around its machines. Called the Ion Dust Shield, this patented system uses ionisation to positively charge dust particles from milled cuttings. The firm claims that current dust extraction technology for milling machines focuses on minimising dust levels around the operator. These ensure that the working area is kept free from dust, with the retrieved material then being exhausted to the discharge conveyor, typically at a height of around 5m with a standard machine.
However, microparticles can remain in the air around the machine, taking several hours to fall back to the ground. And it is these microparticles that provide a hazard to human health with a potential for causing lung or heart damage once they enter the body. By ensuring that the microparticles are positively charged, BOMAG’s Ion Dust Shield ensures that the microparticles stick together so that they are larger and do not hang in the air. Moreover, as the particles are larger they will not enter the lungs or heart.
www.bomag.com
Thanks to their compact design, the P2820D ABG and P2870D ABG make a very flexible solution. Strong enough to push a feed truck, they can also be easily fed by other machinery, such as
a wheeled loader or excavator. Customers can choose between the more common dual conveyor or Volvo’s single conveyor – the latter a feature that is exclusive to Volvo in this size-class and results in higher hourly output. Adding to the pavers’ versatility are a host of optional configurations that make it possible for both the wheeled and tracked models to take on a broader range of jobs. These include individually operated hopper wings, enabling each unit to pave closer to obstacles, and an electro-hydraulic foldable roof that provides the pavers with access when there is minimal height clearance.

HAMM’S IMPROVED OSCILLATION
Hamm is improving the performance of one of its oscillatory type asphalt compactors. The DV+ 90i VS-OS model is now be able to cope with tighter turns due to the fitting of split drums. As a result, the machine can make a tighter turn while the exciter system is in use, without risk of damaging the surface being compacted.
A key feature of the machine is its new exciter configuration for the oscillator drum at the rear of the machine. This now has a separate, mechanically-independent oscillation unit that operates in each half of the split oscillation drum. Belt-driven, the system is also said to be maintenance-free, allowing it to last the lifetime of the compactor. Although the exciter units are separate, they are synchronised electro-hydraulically so that the same forces are applied. The system is said to react quickly and precisely, helping to optimise compaction performance. Using oscillatory type compaction is suited to use on bridge decks, thin layers, in vibration-sensitive areas or at critical temperatures. The DV+ 90i VS-OS model also has a vibration system on its front drum, again with a split drum.

FROM VISION TO MISSION
Keestrack manufactures track mobile crushing and screening equipment and offers the most versatile range of hybrid and plug-in solutions in mobile processing technology for quarrying and recycling applications, resulting in the lowest cost per produced tonne by using innovative drive solutions.
Keestrack recognised the huge saving potentials and operational advantages of electric drives for trackmounted mobile processing solutions with transport weights up to 60tonnes. Keestrack offers diesel/ hydraulic and plug-in electric equipment, always backed up by a diesel engine/gen set unit for full autonomy if no mains are available.
Over 75 Keestrack distributors cover over 55 countries worldwide and provide solutions and services in the recycling, quarry and mining industries.
The UltraWASH plant can produce up to three aggregate and two sand products
Lowest cost by innovation
With the plug-in option, connected to the mains, the Keestrack hybrid “e”-versions drastically reduce the operating cost compared to conventional diesel-hydraulic systems. Energy costs can be reduced by up to 80% and the noise levels during emission-free plug-in operation by 30%.
Replacing hydraulic drives with electric motors avoids long oil pipework with leak-prone hose connections, and thermal problems under extreme conditions are eliminated. With significantly lower oil quantities and extended change intervals the smaller hydraulic systems not only save the environment, but also save money.
In full-electric operation, this also applies to all wear parts of the onboard diesel. Less engine hours means less maintenance, which has a positive impact on total cost of ownership, as well as the higher value retention. By using high-quality steels and the weight-optimised design, Keestrack hybrids weigh less and can be transported in one piece, without dismantling. This contributes to short set-up times. The integration of all electrical system functions is controlled by the intelligent Keestrack plant control. This includes automated routines like sequential start/stop and the telematics monitoring system.

KEESTRACK UNVEILS S5E SOLAR STACKER
The most advanced and futuristic result of Keestrack’s sophisticated ‘e-technology’ is the Belgian global market quarrying equipment manufacturer’s new track-mounted stacker, the S5e Solar.
Believed to be the first directly solarpowered mobile processing plant worldwide, photovoltaic panels literally span like a sun sail over the 23m-long S5e Solar’s conveyor belt. With a maximum 9kW they feed the 23kW system battery installed on the chassis. The conveyor belt (22kW) and the tracks (2 x 15kW) are directly electric-driven. Meanwhile, an electric pump unit (2 x 15kW) supplies the hydraulic lifting cylinders. If bad weather causes an insufficient photovoltaic power
supply or intensive continuous operation exceeds the solar recharging capacities, the system can be powered or recharged via available external sources, such as upstream diesel-electric crushers and screens or via mains plug-in.
Compared to conventional dieselhydraulic systems, ‘e-technology’ plant can, said Keestrack, reduce energy costs by up to 80% compared to traditional dieselhydraulic models. Furthermore, noise levels during emission-free plug-in operation can be reduced by around 30%, according to Keestrack. Onlynly available as a full-electric plug-in plant. www.keestrack.com

BELL UNVEILS B45E 4X4
Bell Equipment’s new B45E 4x4 shares similarities with the South African global hauling giant’s sixty-tonner B60E and the smaller B30E 4x4. The new articulated dump truck is configured to provide a highly efficient and cost-effective transport solution for niche applications in the mining and construction industry.
With the front half of the truck being essentially the same as its 6x6 counterpart, the Bell B45E 4x4 is derived from proven high-volume technology and decades of experience. Powering the truck is a 390kW six-cylinder engine from Mercedes Benz, optimised for off-highway use by MTU.
Like the Bell B60E, the B45E 4x4 bin concept is along the lines of a rigid dump truck rock bin with bottom-mounted telescopic tip cylinders. Thanks to its wide geometry and flat-bottomed floor, the 41-tonner fits in well with typical quarry loading equipment and offers better filling characteristics than the longer 6x6 ADT bins of the same volume.
“Thanks to its high capacity and superior productivity, the Bell B60E can perform a supporting or primary production role in many large opencast mining and quarrying operations around the world. However, we see other target applications for the B45E 4x4,” said Tristan du Pisanie, Bell Equipment’s ADT marketing manager. “These include small to medium-sized mining or quarrying operations with lower production tonnage as well as larger sites with difficult underfoot conditions.”
For comfortable productivity, the A-frame suspension system coupled with hydro-pneumatic suspension struts reduce the lateral vibration often experienced with off-road conditions. A superior suspension seat provides additional isolation for the operator.
The B45E has fully enclosed, flooded, dual circuit wet disc brakes that offer superior braking performance and extended service lifeessential for wet and muddy conditions. Oil-immersed wet-disc brakes are virtually maintenance-free, says the company, and now feature a high-flow circulation system with filtration and cooling.
Engine efficiency is boosted by viscous electronically controlled directdrive engine fans. Meanwhile, engine braking, coupled with automated brake retardation, provides superior braking power. Brake retardation is at pressures low enough to ensure no contact between the wet brake plates and, therefore, no wear.
The Bell B45E 4x4 will enter the market in April 2019. Like all Bell 4x4s, the trucks will be produced in Bell Equipment’s main factory in Richards Bay, South Africa with the first machines planned for delivery early this summer. www.bellequipment.com

Flexible hammers from Epiroc
Epiroc has introoduced the new COP M series of flexible down-the-hole (DTH) hammers. The hammers are designed to boost productivity for mining companies and to be easily adapted for use on different rigs and in different drilling conditions.
Mining companies seek to minimise the cost of drilling holes by opting for fewer and larger holes to reduce the total number of drill metres – and increase efficiency and profitability. Each hammer in the new range can be used on a
wide range of DTH drill rigs thanks to a conversion kit located inside the hammer.
“By adapting the hammer to a specific rig, the rate of penetration (ROP) is optimised,” said Fredrik Gransell, Epiroc product line manager, DTH.
Together, the new products, COP M6, COP M7 and COP M8 – where M stands for mining and the number for the tool’s dimension – optimally cover drilling needs in the 165.1-254mm dimension range.

SUPERIOR SHOWCASES LOW WATER WASHER
Superior Industries, an American-based manufacturer and global supplier of bulk material processing and handling systems, is showcasing its new Alliance Low Water Washer. The claimed one-of-a-kind technology allows crusher plant operators to wash fines within their crushing circuit. It eliminates the need to transport the fines to a separate wash site, which requires costly trucks and harmful re-handling of the material.
With a 272tonnes/hour throughput capacity, the Alliance Low Water Washer accepts a dry feed from the crushing circuit. An agitator converts the material to a slurry before an integrated dewatering screen removes excess water, leaving as little as 8% moisture in the discharged manufactured sand. Superior says existing units have required
as little as 45-90m³/hour of water, depending on production rates. That’s significantly less water consumption than a traditional screw or cyclone.
In addition to wet processing equipment, Superior is planning to showcase a group of conveyor components. Invented by Superior in 2007, the Chevron Pulley is a novel v-shaped wing pulley deflects oncoming rocks and other material, preventing it trapping between the pulley’s wings. No rocks in your pulleys means longer lasting conveyor belts and pulleys.
Made from a composite blend, Moxie Roll is steel alternative idler that sheds sticky material to maintain properly tracked conveyor belts. The rolls are said to be 50% lighter and at least three times quieter than steel. www.superior-ind.com
V22ORCA IS AN ALL-SEASONS DUST SUPPRESSOR
EmiControls’ V22Orca is a hybrid dust suppression machine that eliminates dust in summer and winter.
Designed specifically for countries with colder climates, if, due to the cold temperatures, it is no longer possible to suppress dust on a quarry or construction site using water mist, the V22Orca immediately makes snow. This is said by Bolzano, north-eastern Italyheadquartered EmiControls to be an “absolute novelty” on the market.
Although in the past there have been isolated solutions that used normal snow cannons, these products could not be used for dust suppression in the summer. Additionally, EmiControls says such products are not stable enough for use in mobile applications (on trucks, for example). “Even dust suppression machines with built-in heating start to reach their limits when they reach a few degrees below zero,” says the company, adding, “the result is that they merely generate freezing rain.” www.emicontrols.com

Beumer showcases apron conveyors
Beumer Group is showcasing its GSZF robust apron conveyors, which are used in cement plants to transport clinker from the kiln cooling system to the silos.
According to Beumer. the GSZF is a unique apron conveyor in that it uses a belt instead of a chain as the traction element which allows higher speeds and a slimmer design while still delivering the same level of performance.
The belt apron conveyor has a speed of up to 0.6m/sec, meaning it can reach twice the conveying speed compared to apron conveyors
with a chain. This makes it suitable for retrofitting and modernisations. If operators want to increase the kiln capacity for example, they can replace an existing chain apron conveyor with a belt version of the same size –this means double the capacity without having to make any changes to the steel structure or the conveyor bridge.
The cement plants also benefit from a new construction application. Beumer says that the thinner, lighter design of the GSZF reduces costs for steel structure and freight.

H&B’s fingers on the screening Pulse
Haver & Boecker’s Pulse vibration analysis service program is said to ensure mining and aggregate customers benefit from optimum vibrating screen performance. Understanding that small imbalances can lead to substantial and expensive problems, Pulse detects irregularities that could translate into diminished performance, decreased efficiency and increased operating costs for the vibrating screen. The reporting and historical tracking of the machine’s performance gives customers the information needed to minimise downtime and maximise productivity and profits.
The program was developed to be easy to operate. Components were specifically chosen and engineered for the harsh environments where screening takes place. Pulse gives customers the hardware and software required to instantly record vibrations on their machine. That data is then transmitted to Haver & Boecker where the engineering team analyses it. The team then issues a report back to the customer including an analysis of the machine’s performance and recommendations for improvement. If the results are good, the customer has reassurance that the machine is healthy. If the results require a Haver technician to examine the machine in person, a service call is scheduled. www.haverniagara.com

Volvo Penta Stage V engines lower TCO
Volvo Penta’s new Stage V engine range for off-road applications is developed with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and end users in mind, delivering optimum productivity, uptime and total cost of ownership.
A major driver in the development of the new Volvo Penta Stage V range has been ensuring the engines and exhaust aftertreatment system work seamlessly together. Among other benefits, this maximises passive regeneration during normal operation and, therefore, removes the need for stand-still regeneration, boosting customers’ uptime, productivity and profitability.
In the D5 and D8 engines specifically, Volvo Penta has decreased cooling requirements by around 20%, meaning the size of the radiator can be reduced or power increased depending on customer need.
At the same time, Volvo Penta has succeeded in reducing fuel consumption (vs Stage IV) across the entire range to the benefit of end users’ bottom line and the environment.
“Field-testing of our new Stage V engines has proven extremely promising, boasting fuel consumption reductions of up to 5%,” said Giorgio Paris, head of the industrial business segment at Volvo Penta. “This means Volvo Penta can reduce CO2 footprint by around two fuel trucks per day – and considering
the average life of our engines is 10,00012,000 hours or more, the savings in fuel consumption alone will pay for the engine over its lifespan.”
Yet another positive contribution to customers’ operations is the oil change service interval, which has been lengthened from 500 hours to 1,000 hours.
When it comes to choosing the best
solution, Volvo Penta says it is keen to help customers make the right choice. Its experts draw on their broad experience, supporting more than 300 customers in differing applications and segments – meeting a variety of demands and requirements according to application, installation and market.
