The Queensland Mining & Engineering Exhibition (QME) celebrates its 30th year in 2024, with the state’s most significant mining event descending on Mackay once again.
Spanning more than 7000 square metres of exhibition space and hosting thousands of attendees, QME really is a key event on the mining calendar.
The event not only provides local and international industry professionals the opportunity to get together and celebrate their recent achievements, but it also offers the chance for Australia’s mining equipment, technology and services (METS) companies to strut their stuff.
Attendees will learn about what’s new in mining innovation and technology, while also gaining insights into emerging trends affecting the resources sector.
The 2024 exhibition is one of the largest in QME’s history, featuring over 300 exhibitors across multiple indoor and outdoor pavilions.
It’s an appropriate way to celebrate three decades of representing the best and brightest in Queensland’s proud mining legacy, and to look forward to the sector’s bright future.
Bigger and better than ever, all three pavilions and outdoor spaces within QME 2024 will be packed with problem-solving workshops, leading-edge concepts and transformative plans to usher in the mine of the future.
Super-sizing the outdoor component of the expo, Hastings Deering, Komatsu and Hitachi Construction Machinery will display large-scale equipment for attendees to admire firsthand.
QME’s indoor expo, with its largest-ever floor plan, will feature hundreds of exhibitors, including ATOM, Pirtek, and Flexco, among many others.
The QME seminar series returns for 2024, with industry experts from across the industry set to share their expertise critical minerals, smart mining technology, clean energy, occupational health and safety, the investment outlook, and future trends.
QME’s speakers bring decades of experience from across the globe to help Australian mining companies meet and exceed market needs.
Federal Minister for Resources and Minister for Northern Australia Madeleine King will deliver the opening keynote, while Minerals Council of Australia chief economist Ross Lambie will discuss reimagining the mining landscape to exploit new opportunities.
There will also be plenty of networking opportunities, so be sure not to miss the QME opening party on Tuesday and the Queensland Mining Awards 2024 black-tie presentation gala dinner on Wednesday night.
The Queensland Mining Awards also celebrate a milestone at QME 2024 – their 10th year of shining a spotlight on the Queensland industry’s innovation, tenacity and resilience.
It’s such a fantastic show. Thank you to all our exhibitors, sponsors, partners and trade visitors for your support in making QME 2024 the region’s premier mining and engineering event.
Please do not hesitate to contact myself or any member of the organising team if we can assist you. I wish you an insightful and productive experience at QME 2024.
Siobahn Rocks Show Director, QME
SUPPORTERS
The Queensland Resources Council is proud to be a supporting partner of the 2024 Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition (QME) at the Mackay Showgrounds.
This year, we are proud to be hosting our QRC Resources Lounge in the Mining Pavilion. It’s open to all attendees to meet, relax and chat over a coffee, so please come in and say hello.
QME has been a fixture in Mackay for 30 years. It’s Australia’s largest regional mining event and the most important trade show for the local industry. To add to the significance of this week for our sector, the Queensland Mining Awards will be presented at the Gala Presentation Dinner at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre on Wednesday July 24.
These events are an opportunity to recognise and strengthen supply partnerships and excellence across the sector, which last year contributed nearly $117 billion to the Queensland economy and supported the jobs of more than 530,000 people.
The world needs Queensland’s resources now more than ever. Continuing strong performance in our traditional coal, gas and metal sectors, combined with the expansion of the critical minerals sectors, is placing the state in a strong position to supply the world with a diverse range of the raw materials needed for the technology of today, and for the future. Improving the industry’s long-term sustainability, including supporting companies to implement the changes needed to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, is an ongoing priority for the QRC.
A recent QRC survey confirmed the significant future potential of our sector, along with some challenges. Two thirds of our member company CEOs are confident that global demand for our commodities will remain strong in coming years. Seventy-two per cent of resources companies expect to buy more products and services from local and Indigenous businesses over the next 12 months, adding to the industry’s already significant contribution to regioanal jobs and economies.
The QRC is working with all sides of politics to put in place the right policy settings, including fair royalties, that will keep Queensland competitive as a reliable and stable place to invest in new resources projects.
The Queensland resources sector is proudly a global leader in innovation and adoption of world-best practices to continually seek improvements in safety, environmental, productivity and social outcomes. The industry can also be proud of the significant contribution it makes to state and federal government through royalties and taxes to fund the essential services and infrastructure on which we all rely.
This year’s QME will showcase the very best Queensland’s minerals and energy sector has to offer, and I look forward to seeing you there.
On behalf of the Queensland Government, I would like to welcome you to the 2024 Queensland Mining and Engineering Expo (QME).
The Queensland Government is proud to support the mining equipment, technology and services (METS) sector and QME which has been at the heart of the mining sector in Mackay for more than three decades.
The METS sector contributes $7 billion in revenue to the state’s economy, represents $442.5 million worth of exports and is a priority industry sector for Queensland. We are committed to its continued growth and development through a number of initiatives and strategies outlined in the Queensland Government’s METS ten-year roadmap and action plan.
Demand for resource commodities continues to grow, meaning long-term opportunities for the Queensland METS sector, more jobs for Queenslanders, and economic growth and prosperity for Queensland’s regional communities.
Queensland has some of the richest deposits of critical minerals in the world, including vanadium, cobalt and high-grade metallurgical coal, which are now in high demand across the globe. These critical minerals will play a crucial role in helping Queensland to meets its emissions reduction target of 75 per cent by 2035.
Like the rest of the world, Queenslanders are embracing technologies like electric vehicles, renewable energy products and low-emission power sources – all of which need critical minerals.
Queensland is recognised internationally for its world-class METS sector and has established a welldeserved reputation for excellence in capabilities ranging from sophisticated exploration and processing systems to digital solutions, safety and mine servicing.
The Queensland Government has worked closely with industry partners to deliver major initiatives that support the development of the Queensland METS sector.
In 2023, 18 Queensland businesses participated in the Queensland Government-funded Queensland and National Quantum TX Accelerator programs, which focused on developing small business through matched mentoring and building pathways to cross cutting technology solutions.
In addition, the Queensland Government has provided funding to produce the Greater Whitsunday METS diversification strategy. This project will investigate and analyse the current state of METS capabilities and their alignment to adjacent industries while developing strategies to support METS businesses to pursue diversification opportunities.
Our $2.67 million METS Collaborative Project Fund has been designed to bring together subject matter experts, researchers, government agencies, resource companies and industry bodies to address industry challenges. Priorities for the fund include environmental challenges, emissions management, renewable energy and safety.
I am pleased to see so many METS companies and regional businesses ready to support a new wave of investment that will develop a pipeline of projects, generate jobs, and bolster the state’s global reputation for mining innovation.
I wish you all the best for QME 2024.
As the leading industry organisation representing the Australian METS (mining equipment, technology and services) sector, Austmine takes great pride in our role as a key supporter of the Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition (QME).
QME serves as an invaluable platform where all stakeholders of the mining industry converge for a week brimming with networking opportunities, captivating technology demonstrations, and crucial discussions on the industry’s future trajectory.
This year, we are anticipating a significant turnout of Austmine members who will be showcasing their latest innovations and technologies, poised to shape the future of mining. From advanced data analytics to cutting-edge automation solutions, our members stand at the forefront of revolutionising the sector, driving efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
The exhibition is also a chance for the Mackay and northern Queensland region of Australia to showcase what is has to offer to the world, including the exciting businesses that are in the area, its local hospitality and the beautiful natural attractions and coastline.
Austmine will be actively engaged throughout the exhibition, eager to collaborate and exchange insights with industry peers and partners.
We look forward to contributing to another successful conference and to the continued advancement of our dynamic sector.
The Mackay region has been home to Queensland Mining & Engineering Exhibition (QME) for more than 30 years.
This fantastic exhibition has become part of the fabric of this diverse and innovative community.
When QME first came to Mackay in 1993, I was fortunate to be Mayor of the then Mackay City Council, and the excitement in the city over securing this prestigious event was evident. That excitement is still there for QME 2024.
We extend to the exhibitors and visitors to QME24 a very warm welcome. Representatives and visitors have come here from throughout Australia and even internationally. This event is a wonderful highlight on the calendar for the Mackay region just as it is for the mining and resource sectors.
The Resources Centre of Excellence (RCOE) will play a key role at QME again this year.
The centre, delivered by council in partnership with Resource Industry Network (RIN) and the Queensland Government, features an underground mining simulator along with training and research facilities available for commercial use. There are several QME exhibitors using the facility for demonstrations during the event this year. RCOE has coordinated some of the speakers’ programs as well.
If you get a chance, please visit the RCOE and while you are there, ask about the exciting developments of RCOE Stages 2 and 3.
QME is a great fit for Mackay. The exhibition not only brings the latest and greatest technology and equipment to our region, but it also allows us to showcase the capability, innovation and capacity of our METS sector to the world.
If you visit the Greater Whitsundays METS Innovation Lounge at QME, you will meet some of our outstanding businesses.
Thank you to the QME team. Their hard work provides an important platform for a sector that underpins a significant part of the Australian economy.
On behalf of our vibrant community, welcome to QME 2024!
