Attention to detail shines through

INTERNATIONAL FOOD SUPPLY COMPANY, JBS FOODS AUSTRALIA, HAS RECENTLY PURCHASED A B-DOUBLE SET OF SCHMITZ CARGOBULL REFRIGERATED TRAILERS TO SAFELY TRANSPORT ITS PREMIUM QUALITY FOOD PRODUCTS.

JBS Foods Australia is one of the country’s largest meat and food processing companies, operating technologically advanced production and value-added facilities and feedlots. The company owns Australia’s largest smallgoods manufacturer, in addition to a high-quality meat cutting and case ready production facility. The transport division of JBS Australia supports the company’s operations through an efficient logistical structure – transporting cattle, shipping containers, bulk products in tippers and palletised refrigerated products. When the requirement for a new refrigerated B-double trailer set presented, David Wardle, JBS Logistics Manager, immediately reached out to Schmitz Cargobull’s northern NSW and QLD dealer, The Brown and Hurley Group. They say timing is everything and this proved correct in this instance with Trevor Cox from Brown and Hurley having the perfect B-double set ready to go for JBS. The trailer set originally saw service as show trailers on the Schmitz Cargobull stand at the recent Brisbane Truck Show and following this spent six weeks on tour for The Brown and Hurley Group’s 75th Anniversary Roadshow. “The Brisbane Truck Show B-double trailer set is an impressive package featuring all of the latest safety features including aerodynamic side intrusion rails and dock sensor lighting systems – it’s the perfect combination for JBS Fleet’s best practice environment,” Trevor explains. “Another cool thing about this trailer set is the Virtual Tour where you can actually walk around the outside and inside the trailers to see all the product features and click on brochure links right from your smart phone or computer.” The transport of food requires the highest standards of hygiene, cleanliness and temperature control. According to Trevor, these requirements are met and surpassed by the leading German trailer manufacturer. The refrigerated bodies are based on Schmitz Cargobull’s state-of-the-art FERROPLAST® insulation technology.

The claimed advantages of this technology include: • A higher resistance to corrosion • Excellent thermal efficiency • Reduced thermal expansion • Higher penetration resistance • Greater strength • Vapour diffusion resistance • Higher resistance to common chemicals, fungi, microbes, rot and decay • Odour neutral • Physiologically harmless and certified Food

Safe.

The floor features a non-slip ‘barley grain’ pattern and is fully welded to prevent moisture ingress. This is coupled with recessed load securing hardware which enables greater internal space and prevents product and packaging damage. The trailers are also optioned with the DOST vertical double loader system which enables double stacking of pallets. According to Trevor, the DOST system is extremely user friendly and easy to operate,

with the loading bars simply pulled down from their stowed position adjacent to the ceiling. This minimises workplace health and safety issues associated with less advanced systems that require time consuming manual handling to install the loading bars. The vans are equipped with Carrier fridge units which feature the latest E Solution Telematics. JBS has full monitoring visibility and history of the load via computer and mobile phone at all times. The telematics provide live internal van temperature, current outside ambient temperature and fridge unit performance enroute. After temperatures are set, any variations outside of the allowable parameters trigger an alert that’s sent to the relevant personnel. This allows total management of food products whilst in transit from factory to receiver. Running gear including air suspension, brakes and axles are German manufactured BPW, covered by a one-million kilometre warranty. This tried and proven running gear ensures maximum longevity under Australian conditions. To further address the need for safety, each of the trailers is fitted with side underrun intrusion bars, a fire extinguisher and electronic braking system (EBS). The EBS detects what’s going on with each wheel set. It prevents brake locking and roll over by automatically applying the brakes to particular wheels. Data can be extracted from the system to monitor driver behaviour. The chassis of these trailers are constructed of Strenx® 700 which is a high strength lower weight steel to ensure minimal tare weight and maximum payload. The trailers are finished with various elements of polished stainless, meaning they look as good as they perform. The Brown and Hurley Group has a comprehensive dealer network in northern NSW and Queensland to support the products, which come with a two-year warranty.

REFRIGERATED ROAD TRANSPORT OPERATORS NOW HAVE ACCESS TO CARRIER TRANSICOLD’S ESOLUTIONS TELEMATICS PLATFORM FOR GREATER FLEET VISIBILITY AND EFFICIENCY.

Carrier Transicold’s eSolutions telematics platform for remote monitoring of refrigerated trucks and trailers continues to be improved with features for greater functionality, including a new web-based dashboard that provides critical fleet information for better decision making. The eSolutions platform helps refrigerated transporters operate more efficiently by improving visibility of their cold chain assets and intelligently providing a centralized data stream about transport refrigeration units. “The eSolutions platform not only gives connected fleets detailed information about their refrigerated loads, but it also supplies more comprehensive information about their Carrier transport refrigeration unit operation than any third-party telematics systems,” says Kelly Geddes, Director of Product & Aftermarket Solutions, Carrier Transicold Australia. “We call this remarkable fleet intelligence ‘TRU IQ.’ In addition to providing critical data, such as temperatures, location and movement of refrigerated assets, the eSolutions platform can provide analytics and diagnostic information about a fleet’s Carrier Transicold refrigeration units.” The new dashboard has widgets that provide an at-a-glance overview of the fleet based on key parameters such as critical fuel levels, movement, refrigeration system operating mode and whether parked assets are running on diesel, which will be helpful for fleets subject to idling restrictions. Fleet managers can use the widgets to find specific information about individual units. Geofencing capabilities have been improved and, when two-way control capabilities are enabled, can allow for creation of customized automatic responses and notifications by email and text. The enhanced live map mode now offers filter buttons, so managers can isolate and view units by a range of criteria. For example, users can pinpoint units that are not in service, units running in chiiled or frozen mode, units in an alarm state or some combination of filters. Additionally, fleet managers can zoom in on specific refrigerated assets to see highly detailed information about refrigeration unit operation, movement, speed and direction. Going forward, Carrier’s new global Lynx

digital platform will enable application support to expand and enhance the automation capabilities of the eSolutions platform. The system has the advantage of being fully supported by Carrier Transicold’s service network. The basic eSolutions package provides essential monitoring services. The second tier adds two-way control to remotely adjust setpoints and operating modes. The third tier adds data downloads, remote software updates and the ability to upload IntelliSet control configurations. All Carrier truck and trailer refrigeration units can be fitted with Carrier eSolutions OEM integrated telematics systems from new or retrofit. Carrier eSolutions telematics can be bundled with a Carrier BluEdge Elite maintenance agreement to protect your investment with comprehensive maintenance & repairs for a fixed monthly fee.

Advancer, a trailer refrigeration innovation

WITH FULLY VARIABLE AIRFLOW, UNRIVALLED FUEL EFFICIENCY, AND A SIGNIFICANTLY LOWERED COST OF OWNERSHIP, THE ADVANCER REPRESENTS THE FUTURE OF TRAILER REFRIGERATION.

Thermo King, a leader in transport temperature control solutions and a brand of Trane Technologies, has unveiled Advancer, a disruptive new re-imagining of the trailer refrigeration unit. The Advancer A-500 offers an all-new design architecture that creates a bold new standard for performance, temperature control, and fleet connectivity. “At Thermo King, we understand that with being a leader comes the responsibility to advance the technology and capability for refrigerated transport. Since we started the industry over 80 years ago, we have been innovating to meet and exceed customer needs, improve efficiency and reduce the environmental footprint of our products,” says Francesco Incalza, President of Thermo King Europe, Middle East and Africa. “Today, Advancer adds another milestone to our history. By introducing this completely redesigned trailer platform, we are challenging what is possible in our industry. This is our vision for the future of trailer refrigeration, and this future is now here for our customers.” The ambition behind Advancer is to move beyond incremental enhancements and to create a trailer refrigeration unit that features innovations never before seen on the market. Equally, the performance delivered by the A-Series is unrivalled, featuring groundbreaking temperature control, superior load protection, and

unmatched fuel efficiency. Combined, these capabilities deliver greater operational flexibility, while helping customers achieve significant improvements in fleet uptime and total cost of ownership. “With Advancer we went back to the drawing board and asked ourselves what does the future look like?” says Thermo King Senior Product Manager, David O’Gorman. “We asked customers to tell us what they needed to work better, to win more business, and to cut their cost of operation. The result is a game changing solution we believe our customers are waiting for.” The field trial testing the units in real life conditions and comparison tests against the predecessor and other flagship refrigeration units have shown that Advancer is up to 40 percent quicker to pull down and up to 30 percent more fuel-efficient than the market average. “Our field trial units travelled over one million kilometres across different climate zones and counted tens of thousands of running hours in diesel and electric modes,” David says. “They have crossed deserts, operated at high altitudes, travelled on ferries to cross the seas and on trains for intermodal operations. Throughout the tests, the Advancer units proved to be trouble free.” The new architecture incorporates the expectations of customers that were gathered in detail and factored into the design from the outset, along with decades of Thermo King’s knowledge and experience. As a result, Advancer includes unique features that comprehensively address a wide range of operational and financial challenges, including: • Fully variable airflow that can be regulated for each journey and cargo, and is independent from unit engine speed. • Unrivalled electrical and fuel efficiency contributing to lower CO2 footprint and engines with 50 percent less emissions than the maximum allowed by latest NRMM Stage V emission standards. • Electronic engine speed control on the

A-400 and A-500 units, which makes

them the first units on the market to give complete transparency of fuel levels and fuel consumption. The fuel consumption data will be recorded, displayed, and made available remotely via telematics. • Lower maintenance costs and enhanced serviceability compared to the predecessor, thanks to sensors offering more insight into the engine, fuel, battery and the performance of other key components. • Future-ready power agnostic capabilities that can utilize diesel, axle generator, or shore power sources with ease. • Fleet intelligence as standard, with

Advancer being the first-ever unit to offer 2 years of full telematics connectivity in the purchase price. The Advancer units are manufactured in the Thermo King’s zero waste to landfill plant in Galway, Ireland. The newly designed, stateof-the-art production line uses 60 per cent less energy than the production process of previous Thermo King trailer products. Advancer aligns with Trane Technologies’ 2030 sustainability aspirations, and the commitment to reduce customers’ carbon emissions by one gigaton – equivalent to the annual emissions of Italy, France and the United Kingdom combined.
