Events....
Conformation: Conformation of all beef cattle will show in sequence of Age and in a Alphabetical Breed Order. (Eg. Angus Heifer Calves; Charolais Heifer Calves, Hereford Heifer Calves, Limousin Heifer Calves, Shorthorn Heifer Calves, Simmental Heifer Calves, All Other Breeds Heifer Calves. Followed by.... Angus Yearling Heifers, Charolais Yearling Heifers... Etc.) Showmanship: This will be held in rotation of the Show Team Judging competition. You will show in age division and will be judged while participating as handlers for the Show Team Judges.
Show Team Judging: This will be held in rotation of the age divisions of showmanship. A team of two participants will act as Judge and Ringman.
Multi Judging: 5 classes of livestock that will be judged and placed in their entirety prior to oral reasons. Beef, Sheep, Dairy and Light Horse. Brief critiques will all be included at beginning of contest. Rotation will be strictly enforced by grouping and time. Beef Judging: 3 classes of beef cattle that will be judged and placed. All placings will be given by oral reasons.
Grooming: Grooming will consist of two or three people depending on the amount of entries. You will be able to pick your own partner, if you do not have a partner we will be able to assist you in finding one. Marketing: The marketing component will be the same as the “Synergy” portion. Junior and Intermediate Marketing Challenge:“Online Fundraising Auction”. Senior: “Marketing Manual for Breeding Livestock”. Please refer to www.summersynergy.ca for more information, project specifications and guidelines. ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY JUNE 8, 2014. Keep in mind your marketing may be as simple or as complex as you would like them to be. Master Showman: The Champion and Reserve Champion Showman in each age category will vie for the title of Master Showman by competing against each other showing all three species, Dairy, Beef, and Sheep.
Photography: New.... Photography will be broken down into 3 categories. Farm & Ranch, Your Project and Digitally Enhanced. Each participant is eligible to enter ONE photo per category. Entering all categories is not mandatory, you may enter as many categories as you like. DEADLINE TO ENTER IS THIS EVENT IS JUNE 1 and PHOTOS MUST BE RECEIVED BY EMAIL BY JUNE 8. PeeWee Pursuit: Pee Wee members ages 6 - 8 are eligible to participate in the CWJL Show and Synergy Pee Wee Pursuit. These are fun activities planned enjoyment and learning.
Grand Aggregate: - Points will be awarded for conformation (if entered in more that one class, your best placing will be used) - Points will be awarded in each competition and the individual that attains the most points in each category will be declared the winner. - We will base aggregate points on the top placings of six (6) competitions. All Breeds Jackpot Yearling Heifer: This is open to all breeds. (No Aggregate points will be awarded)
Provincial 4-H Beef Heifer Show: This is open to all Registered 4-H Members in good standing with Registered 4-H Female Projects. (No Aggregate points will be awarded). You must enter this portion of the program through the Alberta 4-H Website.

Commercial Division: Animals must have Limousin genetics in their pedigree and show Limousin characteristics. Animals may be disqualified if they do not meet these requirements. This will be left to the discretion of the show committee. Rules and Regulations... AJLA ENTRY RULES
• This show is sponsored by the Alberta Junior Limousin Association (AJLA) and is open to all Canadian Junior Limousin Association members. Members who are under 22 years old before January 1, 2014 are eligible to show. • A copy of the registration paper for each animal must be available upon request during event. All animals are to be tattooed, including calendar year calves. The show coordinators have the right to ask to see registration papers and check tattoos at their discretion. • Animals registered jointly by two juniors may only be exhibited by one. If an animal is jointly owned by a junior and a non-junior, it can be shown by the junior. • Calves may be shown with their dams and individually. In the event that both would qualify to advance only one animal unit can advance. • Age of animals is based on January 1st of the competition year. • All 2 Year Old Females and Mature Females entered in the conformation classes must be accompanied by their natural calendar year calf(s). • Embryo Transfer (ET) calves cannot be shown with their donor mothers. • Recipient cows can not be shown with ET calves. • Tie-outs are available and nurse cow pens can be pre-arranged; • BOTH purebred and commercial female champions qualifying for an overall Supreme Purebred & Supreme Commercial at Stampede; • We will accept late arrivals from the Lloyd Steer Show but please let us know you are coming to allow for space; • Youth Steer Classic exhibitors have the option to stall steers at Summer Synergy with processing on Thursday and Stampede move-in Saturday morning.

Ages: Ages can be aligned with individual partners as it pertains to their respective rules and regulations. Summer Synergy scholarships and awards are aligned with ages including the following: Peewee 6-8, Junior 9-11, Intermediate 12-14, Senior 15-20 as of January 1st, 2014. Entries: A $15.00 per Summer Synergy Required Component (Marketing, Multi Judging, Showmanship and Show Team Judging) entry fee will be required for full participation and recognition of special awards and scholarships. This entry is due upon receipt of regular entries. Absolutely no late entries accepted. Entry Deadline is as follows: • June 1st, 2014 • June 8th, 2014 for Marketing and Photography Submissions Exhibitor Code of Conduct: All exhibitors commit to demonstrating behavior which validates respect, consideration, understanding, patience, cooperation and honesty. This environment fosters learning, socializing and opportunity. Ownership: All entries eligible for Summer Synergy participants must be owned by the exhibitor/family farm effective at time of entry. Registration Papers, Lease Agreement and/or Bill of Sale must be available upon request for all purebred and commercial entries. Some random and mandatory tattoo and tag checks will be performed. All Other Breeds Show: Olds Regional Exhibition will support and manage the “All Other Breeds or AOB” component to allow smaller beef breeds who either are not functioning associations or do not host provincial junior shows to participate in Synergy.
Beef Show Team Judging: Teams will consist of one Acting Judge and one Acting Ringman (partners determined by the participants), working together to complete: placing of the class, working of the ring, oral reasons to the public on a microphone and removing the class from the show ring. Classes will NOT be identical for each contestant team. Qualified judges will recognize the inconsistent nature of classes consisting of multiple aged and genders of livestock by focusing more on the complete show ring management and quality justification of oral reasons. Beef Showmanship: All exhibitors must show their own animal including only yearling heifers and cows. Exhibitors cannot use a calendar year calf without proper exemption from ORE Event Management. Beef Showmanship is NOT a dry brush show. In the event that a showmanship class is judged more than once, the class must rotate its order entering the class. Champion Showmanship Class of each age division will not be judged by a competing Show Team but rather facilitated by quality volunteers with no specific connection to the competitors and adjudicated by Synergy officials. Beef Team Grooming: Teams of two, as determined by the participants, must utilize any animal entered in regular classes. Blocking chutes and all materials are the responsibility of each team and placed in the designated Team Grooming area. Teams will be given 20 minutes. Teams are encouraged to provide supplemental power to assure that they have reliable access. Partners: At the time of online entry there will be directions to identify your partner for both Beef Team Grooming and Beef Show Team Judging. If you do not identify your partner at time of online entry, there will be a process at time of program registration for you to be partnered. Apparel: Designated Synergy shirts will be worn during the Friday conformation/showmanship shows. Additionally, all beef exhibitors are required to wear a sized show harness to best assist show ring officials and inform public of class placings. No hip clips allowed. Class Splits: If the number of actual exhibits in a livestock class exceeds 8, the class will be split. The purpose is to create a consistent class structure when tabulating aggregate points Bedding: Initial shavings are provided while additional bagged shavings are available for purchase at $7/bag. Daily Tie-out straw service is included in livestock entry fee so no additional tie-out bedding is required. All beef cattle in tie-outs require a securely tied neck rope. There is no hay available for sale at ORE. Parking: All public, livestock trailer and RV parking must adhere to the identified parking areas. Stalling: Stalling is provided for all livestock entries from 9:00 a.m. on Monday to show completion. No early release unless approved by ORE Event Management. All exhibitors will abide by the stalling map and exhibit with the parameters of their designated space. ORE encourages exhibitors to bring their own additional power (generators, etc.). All exhibitors will keep their stalling and work spaces clean, organized and safe. No Alcohol Consumption: There will be NO alcohol consumption permitted during Summer Synergy youth programming. This includes the Calgary Stampede programming where youth have qualified for either/both Champion Display or Scholarships. Awareness and signage via Participant Guide, online entries, buildings will clearly identify no alcohol consumption rule. Those who violate will forfeit their scholarship and prizes. Parent Participation: • Parent participation is not allowed with the exception of exhibitor or public safety. If assistance is necessary, show committee would be able to assist or find a suitable resource. •All participants and their families abide by a respectful and considerate contestant environment. Inappropriate behavior, as determined by the Synergy volunteer committee and ORE Event Management, by participants and their families may result in forfeiting of all prizes and opportunities. Aerosol/Paint Free Zone: Exhibitors must abide by any identified “Ringside” Aerosol & Paint free zone.
Summer Synergy Jackpot Female Show: This class will be open to all females whom have been entered in their respective breed shows or AOB class. Entries will be available online. Purebred and commercial females will be shown by all breeds with classes split by age showing youngest to oldest. Champion and Reserve will receive entry monies split 60/40. Town of Olds - Noise Control Bylaw #1178-80: This bylaw states that OAS’ recreational users will adhere to the following hours in their use of public address, microphone systems and any other noise creating mechanisms (stereos, MP3 players, etc.): • Monday through Saturday; No noise after 10:00 pm; No noise prior to 7:00 am • Sundays and holidays No noise after 10:00 pm; No noise prior to 8:00 am • OAS requests that our visitors and clients adhere to this bylaw in respect to our residential neighbors UFA Youth Supreme quest/National Young Cattlemen/Western Canadian Show Team Judging Finals: Summer Synergy will qualify the following for each of these events. • Supreme Quest: Each Purebred and Commercial Beef Breed Champion • NYC: Top 3 individuals in each Junior, Intermediate and Senior Aggregate divisions • Show Team Judging: Top 3 Teams in each Junior, Intermediate and Senior Aggregate divisions
OLDS REGIONAL ExHIBITION GENERAL
• ORE will not be responsible for damage, injury, loss or theft of or to any exhibit, irrespective of the cause of such damage, injury, loss or theft. This shall indemnify ORE against all legal or other proceedings in regard thereto. • An exhibitor shall, if required, make a statutory declaration to ORE Event Management that the livestock exhibited are exhibited in accordance with and in all respects comply with the rules and regulations of the ORE. In case any exhibitor refuses to make such declaration, all scholarships and awards awarded him/her shall be forfeited and all such livestock shall be removed forthwith is so ordered by Management. • Each exhibit must have a CCIA tag upon arrival or will be excused. • Exhibitors may be excused from competition before or during the 2014 program, or suspended from future involvement based on inappropriate behavior as determined by ORE Event Management and show officials. • ORE reserves the right to remove from the grounds, animals that may be deemed unsuitable or objectionable, without assigning any reason. If any exhibit has obtained admission through misrepresentation the exhibitor will forfeit any money paid for the unexpired term for space or stalls and ORE shall be exonerated from any claim on the part of the exhibitors. • ORE Event Management relies on the volunteerism of committee members and breed representatives. In the event of any potential conflict, a defined protocol is outlined in the Conflict Resolution Policy. Summarized the policy states that ORE Event Management will be engaged in any potential conflict. • Any exhibitor lodging a protest must make it in writing. It must be delivered to ORE Event Management on the day of the show and receipt must be obtained. A protest must state plainly the cause of complaint or appeal and must be accompanied by a deposit of $100.00 which shall be forfeited to ORE if the said protest is not sustained. ORE shall also have the power to interpret the rule and make new rules if the printed rules do not cover any dispute or point. • ORE exhibitors also abide by the IAFE Code of Show Ring Ethics • ORE reserves the right to decide any point not covered by the rules.
CALGARY STAMPEDE GENERAL
• Special attention is called to the Calgary Stampede General Rules and Conditions. • Exhibitors are responsible to carry their own liability insurance (see Liability under General Rules). • Only exhibitors will be allowed to groom/prepare the entries participating in the show.
• Exhibitors may be excused from competition before or during the 2014 program, or suspended from future involvement based on inappropriate behavior as determined by the Calgary Stampede International Youth Livestock Committee and show officials. • No Alcohol Consumption: There will be NO alcohol consumption permitted during Summer Synergy youth programming which includes all Calgary Stampede display programming where youth have qualified for either/both Champion Display or Scholarships. Awareness and signage via Participant Guide, online entries, buildings will clearly identify no alcohol consumption rule. Those who violate will forfeit their scholarship and prizes • All Champions must be on display at Calgary Stampede for the final Saturday and Sunday and agree to remain on park for the specified time. Calgary Stampede International Youth Livestock Committee endeavor to make this stay as accommodating as possible by potentially arranging for transportation to and from Olds, additional feed, etc. • The International Youth Livestock Committee reserves the right to decide on any point not covered by any of the regulations I hereby make the following entry subject to the Rules and Regulations. I acknowledge that costs incurred as part of the entry will be deducted from the Credit Card Information provided. Summer Synergy will not be responsible or liable for any loss, damage, or injury. I agree that my name may be published, used or referred to in connection with any photos taken by Summer Synergy, or words published with them; unless I otherwise agree, such photos or words will not be attributed to me personally. Summer Synergy staff and volunteer leaders provide high quality, supervised programs for Summer Synergy participants. The participants are expected to actively contribute in these programs in a responsible manner. The program staff, including any and all of the above mentioned programmers may give participants additional directions and expectations at the program.
Program participants must not: 1. Arrive at the program, or during the program be, under the influence or in possession of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs. 2. Use any tobacco product (cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco, and so on.) 3. Interact with participants of the opposite sex at times or in locations other than those specified by program staff or volunteers. 4. Disrupt the effectiveness of the program. If a participant fails to comply with this agreement, he (or she) will lose the privileges of this program; his/her parent or guardian will be contacted, and he will return home at his/her own expense. The member’s program registration fee will be retained. The member may/may not be eligible to attend future Summer Synergy programs. Entry conditions outlined in these rules are effective upon signing. The behavior agreement is effective from the time the participant arrives at the program site. It remains in effect until each program is complete and the participant leaves the program site, or is no longer under the supervision of a designated adult. Permission to release delegate’s name and photograph: The Summer Synergy participants name and photograph may be published in media coverage and promotion of the Summer Synergy program. Further, the Summer Synergy participants name and address may be printed in programs.

Summer Synergy is a “One of a Kind” Junior Livestock Event. Olds Regional Exhibition along with its partners the Calgary Stampede, The Government of Alberta, Alberta 4-H and the Olds College have came together to offer and event that is like no other. Youth are given a chance to compete and showcase their talents in several agricultural events ranging from conformation, judging, marketing and so much more. They offer a platform for juniors of several species of animals and beef breeds to come together and socialize, have fun, and vie for the LARGEST amount of scholarship money awarded in Canada with totals reaching over $80,000.00.
