Southeastern Ohio is beautiful in autumn – Spend a great weekend with us!

Raising cattle. Good cattle. Breeding them, feeding them, trying to make them better. When it’s in your blood, there is nothing you can do about it; you’re hooked. Joe Lucas has been hooked for a long time. Along with his family, Joe has been producing winning cattle in the southeastern Ohio hills for more than 36 years. He has tried to give them up more than once but it didn’t stick. His interests, his talents, and, ultimately, his customers and family wouldn’t let him do it. It’s a tough thing to do, you know; to give up on something you’ve done for so long and still have a passion for. Ask Brett Favre. When you’re hooked, you’re hooked. The cattle business has been good to Joe Lucas and his family over the years. And, in turn, they’ve been good to the business. A lot of club calf history has been started in their pastures and eventually written by their customers in show rings across the region over the past four decades. Many herds have been started – or strengthened – with Lucas cattle from past sales, and many young people, including me, have been positively influenced by the Lucas family. Joe Lucas knows good cattle and he knows how to make them better. He’s not as young as he once was but don’t worry, Joe knows. This offering of Lucas cattle – their entire operation sells here – is easily the best herd that Joe has ever worked. True, the Lucas herd has been pumping out champions for many years and the list is as long as or longer than anyone in the business, but he has never worked with cattle like these. You’ll need to see them to believe me, but this set of cattle is something special. We’ve sold some great ones for Joe before but never anything like those that will sell to the highest bidder on November 1. The business has gotten tougher since 1973 so the Lucas herd has adapted; there are more “stout and special” ones in this herd than one man ought to have. Our past sales of Lucas females have produced a string of influential and profitable cattle that have impacted plenty of club calf outfits across the country. This one will be no different except that I expect the impact from the sale of these cattle to be more significant than ever before because the quality is so much deeper and easier to use. Joe has worked-out the kinks and set his cows up perfectly for their new owners. All you need to do is study the offering, make your favorite selections, and turn them loose. These cattle are ready to work and they are pasture-proven. The Lucas family is busily preparing for another big day in their history book but they would love to talk about these cattle with you. Feel free to contact Joe or his grandson, Jake, to learn more about their herd or to schedule your pre-sale visit. One phone call is all it will take for you to see how much time and effort they have put into this herd of cattle and how those efforts can directly benefit you. No, this isn’t the first time we’ve had a cow sale along Route 550 in Amesville, but it sure looks like it will be the last. I hope you can join us for a special day! As always, if I may be of any assistance to you prior to the sale, please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you, Joe and Bev! We’ll see you in Amesville, Craig Reiter Sale Manager

The Lucas herd is available anytime for pre-sale inspection. Plan to stop by when you’re in the area or contact Joe Lucas, 740/448-4284, or Jake Bush, 740/541-1526, to arrange a visit.

The Entire Lucas Family Cow Herd

Lot 1

Lot 1

Lucas Donor P835 FEMALE

Calved: Spring 2001

Sire: Meyer 734 Dam: Partisover Ranch Angus 550

Bred to calve approx. 2/14 to DCC New Look 101 “The best cow I ever owned and I hate selling her.” That says a lot from a man that has owned more cows than most, but it’s hard to Heat Wave x Lot 1 argue with Joe when you consider the track record of the 835 Donor. This impeccable beauty has certainly left her mark on the Lucas pastures and, to date, has brought in nearly $100,000 in income. We’ve got some other very special females that we’ll tell you about in this offering but none have beaten 835 when it comes to consistent, upper-level production and success. Everything she has produced has sold well with her most-accomplished progeny being Kaitlyn Thompson’s numerous time champion by Heat Wave that ended his career as the Grand Champion Steer of the always-tough Maimi County (OH) Fair. Donor 835 flushes well and is a product of the famous Meyer 734 x Partisover Ranch 550 mating that has produced some of the finest females in the business. She was a major show champion herself and is bred to DCC New Look to mimic the recent success achieved by Bain Goff, Bainridge Cattle, OH, with his 734 x 550 donor. This is a rare and accomplished individual with plenty left to give. Look for her confirmed pregnancies selling in this sale – we emptied the embryo inventory – put some thought into how she can work for you. An investment here will deliver with the best you will find anywhere!

Every Female Sells! All The Best!

Lot 2 Lucas B34 FEMALE

Calved: Spring 2002

Sire: Meyer 734 Dam: Angus

Bred to calve approx. 1/25 to Monopoly – No Exposure

Lot 2

Also selling 20 Frozen Embryos by Hollywood (5) and Heat Wave (15) as Lots 2B-2E!

Another eye-popper for the front pasture, this gorgeous 734 daughter is pushing $40,000 in production but Joe claims she would have made a lot more if “someone who knew what they were doing had her”. I don’t know about that but I do know that this is a rare individual with tremendous producing power. She was another choice selection from the former Ray Farms, IL, and she is certainly a cow that will do plenty of good in her new home. You can look at plenty of females and you’ll rar ely find a Sim x Angus half-blood with this type of freaky power and good looks. And, when you find them, you need to own them because they really work. Steers from this cow have been fast to sell and one look at her bred heifer daughter that sells here is all you’ll need. Own the pair!

Lot 2A Lucas B8-34 FEMALE

Calved: Spring 2008

Sire: Friction Dam: Lucas B34 by Meyer 734

Bred to calve approx. 2/11 to Dirty Harry This beautiful baldie bred is all you need to know about the producing power in this family. This young female is going to make an exceptional cow just like her top-performing dam. Tremendous hair, look, and power!

Lot 2A

Lot 3 Lucas B83 FEMALE

Calved: Spring 2002

Sire: Draft Pick Dam: Angus

Bred to calve approx. 2/28 to My Turn – No Exposure

Lot 3

Another fantastic frontrunner ready to push your program higher! This direct Draft Pick daughter has been as good as any in the herd. She is a club calf specialist whose 2008 steer sold well to Shane Show Steers, OH, and her 2009 daughter by the same mating should have been shown this summer. This cow is what makes Draft Pick daughters so appealling. Check her powerful build, long front, and excellent udder. Bred for a hot one!

Lot 3A Lucas B983 FEMALE

Calved: March 29, 2009

Sire: Heat Wave Dam: Lucas B83 by Draft Pick

Sells open This special heifer calf should have made the show string this summer. She has the look and plenty of shape from her powerful mother.

Calved: Spring 2000

Sire: Draft Pick Dam: Angus

Bred to calve approx. 2/25 to Heat Wave – Exposed to Vincent 68S 6/01-7/16 One of the hardest-working cows in the outfit, this proven Draft Pick daughter is another of the core producers for Joe Lucas. Her son by Paddy O'Malley sold to Shane Show Cattle and later won the 2008 Jefferson County (OH) Fair for the John Defrank family. She has an excellent full sister to that steer that sells here as Lot 5, and the 2009 son from this standout performer by Heat Wave sold for $2,200. This cow milks hard and stays thinner but she does the trick.

Lot 5

Sire: Double Vision son Dam: Maine cross

A red-roan production machine! This fancy, young cow knows how to do her job with the best of them. Her last calf has been her best thus far – she sells here – but we think you’ll agree that there is much more to come from this cow. Small but mighty, this red-roan Double Vision granddaughter packs a punch! She is nearly as wide as she is tall and her calves have shown the same thick, eye-catching look. Her first calf was by Ali and sold for $2,000, and her current baby sells here. Eye Candy could be excellent with her but Vincent should work well also with what is likely to be a calf colored just like this cool cow.

One of the younger heifers in the group but also one of the best performers, this blue-roan heifer will make an excellent cow like her dam. She is big boned and good bellied with more than enough muscle.

She is widely regarded as the most productive daughter of the industry hallmark donor, THMT Hot Sauce, herself a 15-time winner for Megan Hunt and the dam of a string of successful, major-winning progeny. It is hard to imagine a better THF and PHAF pedigree than this one that blends the famed Campbellco Goose and Sullivan Ranch “Tank 16B” families. Beyond his blood, this bull is physically impressive, as well, with large bone, an extended front, real muscle, and fantastic hair. He was a high-dollar prospect in his youth and he has become a reliable sire of quality. His calves have been born with acceptable ease and they look excellent. Several regional breeders have used Vincent 68S through AI and even ET, and all report satisfaction. This is a great bull that is bred to be that way and we were very excited to have him cover the cows this summer. This is a great opportunity for any club calf producer.
