What Will You Do with Your Jackpot?
If you are in the cattle business then you know a bit about jackpotting and, right now, you know that you have found your little pot of gold. So, what will you do with your newfound jackpot that grew from this historically exciting time in the cash cattle markets?
Will you invest in your herd and upgrade through better genetics? This can mean new additions in both sexes and, quite honestly, good seed stock is still considerably underpriced as you compare them to their weigh-up counterparts. Do the math, but right now is the ideal time to peel off those older or lesser animals and replace them with new and improved versions be it live or frozen.
Will you invest in your infrastructure? Spend a little jackpot cash on better fences, nicer pens, a safer corral, automatic waterers or even (gasp) improved nutrition. Now is a smart time to make your life easier with a heat detection system, a better side-by-side, heat on the wash rack, or some new gravel to help your new tractor get around the

new feed pads. Think of those things that always make you cuss – like gate attachments that don’t attach and head catches that don’t catch – and go right on and replace them. Make your days happier. Will you invest in our future? It’s fair time and there is never a bad time to invest in our youth. Dive right in and bid those champions up a ways or, better yet, watch the show and bid on the kids that worked the hardest. You will never regret making a positive impact on a young person’s future. Whatever you do with your cattle cash – invest it, donate it, blow it, or keep it – I salute you. Congratulations.
